First of all, I think there has been more complaining about a lack of institutional support for athletics than about others keeping us down. Debatable, but that's how I've read this board over time. Second, most of us seem to be really happy that it appears that the lack of institutional support thing appears to be changing and that UNT looks like it's doing what it takes to be a competative mid-major football program. I've been following this program for 10 years and there are people here who have been doing it for 40+ and if I'm really excited those guys must be over the flipping moon. Are we irrational for being happy that our school seems to be taking it's athletic department seriously? Absolutely! If you think there's something wrong with that, tough. I hope that was a substantive enough response for you.

I really don't see the merit of this arguement. Is it a beauty pagent or an athletic contest? Unless every team, popular or not, knows what it has to do to be the champion and unless it's all determined on the field and not in somebody or some computer's opinion of who's best then all we have are meaningless exhibition games. BCS games are no different from the other meaningless exhibition games/bowls. Just because it's what we've had doesn't mean it isn't absurd.

Insane Number Of Bowl Games
Denia Park Pedro replied to SCREAMING EAGLE-66's topic in Mean Green Football
If you had a 20 team playoff like 1-AA does now and used the 11 conference champs and filled in with the BCS rankings the best team left out would, I believe, be A&M. I think that would be totally fair, avoid a chance of a one loss team being left out in favor of a 6-6 champ, and let everyone know at the start of the season what they have to do to be the national champs. -
It's Like Some Sort Of Football Dream World!
Denia Park Pedro replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
I'd tell you what I really want, but I really don't want to get into a Todge or PMG style rant. However, I do think there needs to be some kind of balance between an institution's wants and the needs of the conference. To bring things back to reality, the success of our SBC sister wives is good for us, especially if we can manage to get back to whuppin up on them as we all hope. The same would be true if we were dominating the Big 12 if that fantasy land scenario ever happened. I understand your arguement. I just don't agree with it. -

An indidendant UT and A and M going to the SEC with OU leaving room for us, Houston UTEP and a couple others (you tell me, at that point it would be too awesome to matter) would be Mean Green Paradise. However, it would require TTU, Mizzou, KU, et al to grow a pair and demand to be treated like equal partners in a conference of peers. I don't see it happening too soon, but everyone has a breaking point, right? -
I was down there this weekend for my brother's graduation (I tried to talk some sense into the boy, but he was dead set on UT to my everlasting dissapointment) and when I went back to my car those shuttle vans were parked opposite me in the garage. I've been wondering if they noticed any of my NT paraphenalia since.

It does. Get 'em hooked and drinking that green kool-aid early.

Make that at least four. My church's men's choir is performing. I know there's going to be overlap at times, but conflicting with major civic events won't help attendance.

Junior has probably felt that if UNT Football didn't take itself seriously (and hiring two HS coaches probably didn't help our case) then why should he ? We're starting to look like we take it seriously with Coach Mac and the Win Mill, and it sounds like he's coming around. Hopefully the thousands of other alums who think like him start to come around, too. -
Mwc: What Would North Texas Bring To The Table?
Denia Park Pedro replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
There are other ways to be compliant and our compliance history would make a solid case for us to start baseball without another women's sport. I just don't think, given the emphasis that has been placed on gender equality here, that we would. It's something that I've gatheredd that they're very proud of. -

Field hockey or lacrosse could use the soccer field. Perhaps bowling, fencing or gymnastics would fit the bill. There are several things that could be done fairly quickly. If we went with any of those we wouldn't need to build anything to get started. -

Tomorrow's no good, I've got a nasty cold. In all seriousness, if he would come pay a visit at the next neighborhood association meeting in January, given how good he was at the presser today, I might stop being so alone over here. -

Unt Officially Declines Wac Offer
Denia Park Pedro replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
At what point does UNT declining an offer from the WAC cease to be newsworthy? I'm just saying. . . -
The following needs to come out of the SBC office: "Any institution that has participated in SBC football is welcome to return if they request reinclusion in the next 30 days. All other applicants will be considered on their merits." La Tech be darned. I doubt all three of USU, NMSU, and Idaho will take it. Let Denver back in and if TSU-SM and UTSA want in for non-football and move up the right way later, fine.

Doesn't This Make You A Little Bit Sick?
Denia Park Pedro replied to Keith7's topic in Mean Green Basketball
They have some programs we don't and vice versa, but in my personal experience UNT is a much much better school. I took some Masters level classes there (paid for by work, woulnd't give that place any of my own money) and got straight A's for effort that would have gotten me C's in Sophomore classes at UNT. If the instructor wasn't paying attention. -

Appears that I have to soften my stance on FSU. I was remembering statements out of the Oklahoma Seminoles being opposed to it. Some individuals did, but the tribe itself took no position on it. More recently they voted to not oppose Native American imagery in sports. I still think it should be all or nothing, it's the apparant double standard that bugs me. Especially since they're proven head mascots that can recruit in Texas. . . -

If people from Illinois in general refer to thmselves as Illini I'll buy it, I don't believe they do, but am willing to stand corrected. If there was consistancy on this issue I'd be fine with it, but drawing the line at "you're a marquee program and you aren't," as they seem to be doing is absurd. -

According to the University of Illinois they are the Fighting Illini, not sure the stance of the Illini tribe. As for the Seminoles, I seem to recall FSU asking permission from two branches of the Seminoles and only one gave it. Not sure why this case can't be the same. -

Isn't it great how the NCAA is taking such a stand for sensitivity. Of course, Fla St., Utah, Illinois and those like them should't have to follow the rules. We have to make sure that they get to keep all of their traditions because they're more important than some Dakota school. Vomit. -
According to the latest issue of the Denia Area News the neighborhood assoc. doesn't talk to UNT. Apparantly we only deal with the city. I've given up trying to make the point that if you communicate and compromise you might get somewhere other than irritated. Nobody seems to appreciate it when I point out that none of us have been in the neighborhood for 120 years either.

It'll either be inside the indie movie theater or part of the concessions at the new baseball stadium.
