I like the "Pack the Pit" idea. I would also love an annual White Out game. Maybe the two can be done in conjunction

I like the Oregon uniforms and wouldn't mind the feathers on ours. I like the concept of the helmet but what if we just used the wings from our eagle. Sort of like the Philadelphia eagles but using the wings on our logo of course.

If Offered, Should We Join The Mountain West Conference?
Green Otaku replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Could't agree more. I'm tired of this board's fixation with CUSA. MWC is better, we should join if offered. -
I have just never heard a guy at our school speak with the passion he does (don't know if any of you have). You can tell he really means it, that he really loves our school and players. Thats something special, that makes people want to play for you, he is a motivator. Give him a chance RV!!!!

I want Canales. If we don't make him coach I want us to persuade him to stay. He can have the HC job if McCarney doesn't pan out. Offer him a raise, do whatever it takes. Just don't let this guy go. We will regret it if he leaves.

What a great game. Our players should be proud and hold their heads high. Riley has my deepest respect, the kid's (or should I say man) grit is inspiring. We hung in there with a program with more money, better recruits, better conference, bigger fan support, etc. I still think that KState's second touchdown wasn't one. The punt at the end of the 2nd quarter was the tide turner, we really beat ourselves there. What else could you ask for? Canales should get the job, he is a great fit and can do good things. We should keep him. Players were disciplined, how many penalties did we have? Not many, that is a well coached team. The success will come, but that is the foundation you need.

Wow, pretty pathetic how some people are putting down SMU and are sure we will be picked ahead of them for a MWC invite. I have no love for SMU, but go to the MWC board and all the talks about Texas teams revolves around Houston, SMU, and UTEP. UNT is mentioned 1 time, be realistic and get your fan googles off. The MWC is looking to build with strong teams, not tap sleeping giants. we haven't been to a bowl in 6 years and have a terrible record. Don't sugar coat things. UNT has a great facility coming and I hope that leads to success and a new home, but we have to show it on the field first. There is a chance we can get a MWC invite but it would most likely be that SMU turns the, down and they really want to keep a presence in the DFW area.

With Hawaii gone this changes the whole situation. With a name like Hawaii, pretty much their only pillar that was left, no one else has the credentials to keep that conference respectable. They might be able to rebuild but its going to be a hard long road. What I would like to do now is take two teams from LaTech, NMSU, TXst, UTSA. This is a good chance for the Sunbelt to add some good regional rivals and kill off the WAC. Just do it. Its one less FBS conference to share BCS money with and would make us look stronger for raiding another conference.
-
The Sunbelt has no room for growth. The aspirations here are you dominate the league and maybe, thats a big maybe you get to go to CUSA when realignment comes around. In the WAC teams get picked for the most part because conferences WANT them, not because they need to fill in a vacant spot. Thats two completely different things. Put up a team by team comparison, in all sports not just football and lets see how these two conferences really stack up. To those talking about travel costs having the close block of NMSU, LA Tech, UTSA, TxSt will be enough for most fans to travel to. People don't travel to florida now so the same way people won't ravel to San Jose. Also if UTSA and TxSt can handle the travel it would be embarrassing if we can't. Your going to tell me our great program can't keep up with these two startups? I'm not saying lets go, but we need to see if anymore movement happens this summer like TCU to the Big East, (which is almost a guarantee) and see where we can move, but if no MWC or CUSA spot is available we should make a full analysis to see if this move would help us in both the long and short term.

wow what a great crowed. Everyone was focused, which was nice to see. Mostly people are milling around and talking but everyone kept their attention on the game last night. These kind of games really build school pride and you can tell everyone was bursting with it after the game. Josh White has ice in his veins. I thought he would run out of time but he came through. Odufawa, Thompson, and Hogans are also terrific, as well as the whole team. I was really pulling for 8-8.5k in the crowd and was a little disappointed that there weren't more people but the ones who came we couldn't ask for better support. On a side note I hadn't been to the Pit in a while. When did they repaint/remodel the concession stands? It looked very, very nice. Especially the trophy display area. (I'm trying to attatch an image from my computer, I pick the picture but when I click the "choose this file" button nothing happens.??)

I'll be there with at least 1 more, possibly 3.
-
maybe, but it worked out for TCU pretty well. Give up those conveniences to be ranked #3 in the country, which they would have if they stayed in CUSA? You bet.
-
Assuming Houston and UCF are gone from CUSA, ECU is the only notable football program left. MWC would have: Bosie st. Navada Fresno st. Air Force all borderline/potential top 25 programs I would still pic the MWC over CUSA
-
Thats what I would like to see. People here have a an obsession with CUSA, its better than what we have now but I would choose the MWC over CUSA any day, and would actually prefer to be in the MWC.
-
Good comments. Celebrate and give full credit to the win for the guys and the coaches. Now lets see how the next games go and then we can talk about keeping him as the HC.
-
Thanks, hope we can lock all these guys down. If we do its going to be a great class.

So when is early signing day?

When We Have To Expand New Stadium For Either...
Green Otaku replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I have wondered this as well. We can always complete the bowl, add press boxes on the east side to match and add a tier all the way around on top of the press box kind of like Ohio State. -
When We Have To Expand New Stadium For Either...
Green Otaku replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Sounds like our stadium is configured to go 50k seats by adding on. The strength and structures put in place are for those specifications. When UT built their new end zone, the whole thing had to be rebuilt structurally, which we would have to do as well if we want to expand past 50k. -
If the WAC survives and we don't join, a few years from now we will be looking back wishing we had taken a shot. Just the same as if we had joined in 04, now we realized we could have been playing Boise St., Hawaii when it was ranked, and now a ranked Nevada. Even now the remaining teams have name recognition. Hawaii, Idaho, Utah State, LA tech, and some what NM State. People know about those schools. You ask about FIU, ULM, etc. and you will get a blank stare. This year has shown this conference is not improving. Ask our friend RabidRunner why their fans want to join the WAC and not the Sunbelt. They wan't to go to a conference that has a history of building up its teams. No one knew who Boise st. was when they first came to FBS, so who knows what new schools will have the chance to be the new Boise.

Nm Lobos To Fire Coach & Hire Mike Leach
Green Otaku replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Not a bad trade off considering a coach like him would generate many more millions of reasons to hire him. -
Nm Lobos To Fire Coach & Hire Mike Leach
Green Otaku replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
That sounds very probable. Colorado is a great place to live as well. Do you guys think we should at least contact him if Dodge is fired just to see what he says? -
Which teams have we built rivalries with? As a student no one knew or gave a thought to any of the schools in the Sunbelt. I can't remember anyone every saying, "I can't wait to play (any sunbelt team) this week." I really can't. I think it would be hard to argue that playing in-state schools wouldn't get the student's interest more. If we would have joined the WAC in 2004 who knows what could have been. Do we want to be saying that again in the future? @VideoEagle thats a good point. I like TxSt, ok with UTSA, but Lamar and Sam Houston are not what I would like. The question is what is the WAC trying to do? Are they baiting to see what other tentative teams might bite?
-
Thank you! I was hoping to keep that a secret...

Thank you as well for the welcome! haha, I just really use this board to get the most recent information. This topic though is something I feel strongly about and wanted to give a response and different view. I agree with you, also if UNT leaves the Belt, especially with our record what does that say about that conference? It will be a real knock on its national perception. People say the Sunbelt is more stable, the reason is no one wants the teams from there, and the reason the WAC seems unstable is conferences cherry pick their top teams. I just don't see how we couldn't at least go out on a limb and give it a shot. New stadium, new athletic fee, new conference and if we can run the table there history shows good things will come. If worse comes to worse we can return to the Belt and say we tried for that golden opportunity.
