It'll all come down to money, if it's not right there won't be any interest from the AAC schools. The legacy members make $7-8M a year from media distribution only, and with a $10M buyout and forfeiture of 2 years of distribution the money needs to be enough to make it worth it. Added travel will also need to be taken into consideration. What numbers could this new PAC pull? I'd guess the AAC teams would need something like $12-15M to make the move desirable. The MWC teams get $4-5M a year so a bump to $10M makes sense for them, a bump to $10M for the AAC schools doesn't.

From what I've read UNLV might have problems with moving without Nevada, as the state legislators might make a big deal/make it difficult to do. As for AFA, with CSU you have a team in Colorado already so they might want to expand the footprint first. Also people are skeptical how the academies will compete in the future since they don't have any NIL.

I think the thought is that they have the money and donors to really up their athletics if they wanted to. The impression is that they could even outspend SMU if they wanted.
-
I'll say (and take this with a huge grain of salt) that rumors on different boards and sites say they are looking at a $100m a year TV deal from some TV partner or streaming partner. Others are saying $10M to $14M a team, depending on who they get. Again just rumors and "insider info" I have seen around. I would expect the 6 current teams to go forward and shop deals around with different team configurations and try to lure teams that way. I would think $10M a year would be the minimum to get the western AAC members to listen.

Lol apologies. There there.. it will all be gone soon enough.

For now I think the GOR is keeping that conference together, or it would be like sharks to bait. I can't remember if FSU is still in court about the GOR, but if they could have found a way out I think they would have by now.

One thing I will say is UNT is making a big push for engagement. Last week it was to set a student attendance record, and next home game it's to sell out the game vs. Wyoming. Coincidence that this is happening during this PAC announcement? Maybe, but there is no way the internal AD doesn't know about certain rumblings.

People think if those 2 leave it will open the floodgates for others to exit as well. The ACC schools want to make as much as the B1G and SEC so if there is a path to leave for Clem/FSU why couldn't the others. It would help solidify the P2 if they can grab the rest of the valuable brands like Virginia, UNC, Miami, etc.

UNT ATHLETICS: Goal Set for First DATCU Stadium Sellout
Green Otaku replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I thought that too. Hopefully they actually show up. -
I doubt we would be considered, but it would all come down to money. We will eventually be making $7M a year in the AAC, plus it takes $10M and 27 months notice to leave the conference. I don't think they can get a media deal high enough to match or even pass what the AAC gets.

UNT ATHLETICS: Goal Set for First DATCU Stadium Sellout

The reaching out and connection to Peterbilt is a nice move, it shows effort by the AD to get more involved with local businesses. -
The bodybag games were an understandable outcome, and the dept needed money. The 2-10 G5 record shows we weren't even a good G5 school compared to our peers. I'm not trying to disparage what those teams did, they helped get us to where we are today, but the reality is we weren't a very good team outside of our weak conference.
-
This. I see people looking back at that time fondly, but the reality is the Sunbelt was extremely weak, anytime UNT stepped out of conference they got their butts kicked. We were a big fish in a small pond. I know people won't like it, but it's the truth.

Seems like the quality of the band has been sliding for the past few years. They look unorganized and not attentive in the stands, I can hear them start and then many others come in because they weren't prepared. Also does this director know how a football game works? On an opposing teams 3rd down you are supposed to play an intimidating song like Dies Irae to get the crowd going.

****OFFICIAL SFA vs UNT In-Game DISCUSSION****

Oh wow, that's huge if true. Weren't they the 2 Texas transfers that were very hyped up? No official word on what they did or if they are for sure off the team? -

What happened with those 5 we were missing from defense that were suspended? Did we have any of them back for this game? -

I've been a harsh critic of the defense, but they really kept us in the game during the early plays where the game had a chance to get away from us. Offense were much more the problem this time, too many turnovers and mistakes. Let's hope they clean it up because we looked like a completely different team on offense today. -

Sources: Pac-12, Mountain West football don't reach deal for '25
Green Otaku replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
For those wanting the AAC to reach out, last time it was brought up the either they or the AAC didn't deem it as desirable. There probably isn't enough money to add them without lowering the per team payout. -
***OFFICIAL UNT vs. SOUTH ALABAMA IN-GAME DISCUSSION***
Green Otaku replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Credit where it is due, very good road win. Offense looked great. One thing I didn't see mentioned is the offensive line, they looked stout and defended Morris well all night. Let's hope that's a trend we see all year. Defense still needs a lot of work, too many open receivers and missed tackles. We need them to step it up considerably or we are not going to be able to keep up with better teams. -

Green Otaku replied to Matt from A700's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I refuse to believe we don't have the pull/name/ability to schedule with the AQs you listed, as well as some other teams. We really don't have the ability to schedule LA Tech or WKU? Either of those is an easy home and home deal. -

Anyone else losing the star graphic next to the thread title to show your participating in a thread? It's only happening in the football forum I think? -

I should have said decent, and yes at least well known. I'd still much rather play them as well as teams like New Mexico/WKU than some of the teams we've scheduled in the past. When did Texas come the Denton? I was curious to when that was and couldn't find it listed. -
2024 North Texas football Ranked No. 116
Green Otaku replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
We gave up the last two years of conference revenue in CUSA and it wouldn't make sense to still be making anything from that conference after we left. I am curious on what our AAC situation is. From what I understand is we would be getting half shares, so $3.5M. What I have heard is that the AAC will also take a cut out of that as an entrance fee. This article sites that our revenue is rumored to be $2M a year: https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-the-aac-close-to-massive-6-school-expansion-to-reshape-conference-014015069.html This article that sites that one says: https://www.agent49.net/the-charlotte-49ers-are-american-athletic-conference-bound/ Also the half shares are just media payouts, not total conference revenue from NCAA credits, CFP distribution, and other payouts. I tried to find a UNT document that had that listed last year, but could only find fiscal year 2023. It seems UNT does things from Jan. to Dec. for reporting? https://meangreensports.com/documents/2024/1/11/2023_NCAA_Financial_Report.pdf Page 26 says we had $0 in media rights, but page 28 says we had $1.13M in conference distributions. I did however find a UAB document that covers 2023-24 that had $3.5M figure, but I'm unsure if that is conference distribution.
