The issue I have with this is there is no way to get in the club. I would be completely behind this if they said, ok here are the rules to be P5: XX millions in budget, attendance, stadium size, athlete subsidies, etc. A clear list of requirements for schools. If UNT/CUSA offer the exact same thing why can't we have equal footing and get in on the big money? It's complete *%$#! that we are automatically pushed out from the start.

NCAA: And the Muted Bell Tolls (Dennis Dodd, CBS)
Green Otaku replied to Christopher Walker's topic in Mean Green Football
Maybe it's just me but I feel like the P5 conferences don't want to keep losing that edge that they have over the rest of us. Back when NT made a run in the 70's it was possible to build up a program, once the BCS was instated there was a clear divide which gave a big recruiting advantage/money advantage to the BCS programs. They basically ended the chance for other schools to ever reach them, but slowly the non-BCS schools fought and gained access. At the same time the non-BCS ranks grew adding in more teams, what are we up to now? 125 teams in FBS? So now the only choice wasn't to go be a walk on at Indiana or Arizona, recruits had more options and full ride opportunities. How many great to solid recruits are stolen randomly to non-P5 conferences every year? I hear of teams stealing players from schools regularly. How much of a difference today is a solid G5 school to say an Indiana? or a Wake Forest? If things continue to go this way we will further water down the advantage the P5 schools have and they know it. They are attempting to raise the bar again. -

Sure anything can happen and I am excited to see a new season. I'm just bringing in the realism of multiple possibilities, possibilities that some posters (IMO) feel like are behind us. People forget that we didn't get here is a straight line, first year was 5-7, so we would naturally have 1 or 2 more wins next year right? We went 4-8. Just the same way as we continue to improve there is always the chance we hit a bump in the road. Even top teams that pay millions to their staff have a hard time staying on top, and they get some of the best recruits in the nation. -

I'm wondering what the general consensus for next year is on this board. I feel like most people think we "have arrived." That McCarney worked out all the kinks in the first two years and we will maintain and keep moving upwards. Success is hard to maintain and isn't always a curve upwards, there will be bumps along the road, and unforeseen setbacks. I wouldn't be surprised to go 7-5 or 6-6 next year and hopefully comeback the year after. -
SMU manages to schedule home and home with Baylor

But how much are they paying for those games? Lets see the numbers before we complain. Offer up some big $$ and teams will come. -
Soon....

@UNT90 Like I said I wouldn't forget.

There are always 2 sides of the coin. We just aren't looking at it the way we could be, and this could work in our favor. I would say agree to autonomy IF the P5 schools give the rest of us an option to move up if we want to. Set up some standards that have to be met including; stadium size, budget minimums (30 mil or so), stipend requirements, etc. In exchange we would be guaranteed a spot in a P5 league. Lets face it, we are already 2nd class citizens and this could be a huge way to level the playing field. The bottom teams that can't or don't want to move up will drop out and give us a huge recruiting boost. Even if we get somewhat less than the traditional powers just being in the club would be a huge step up. Option 2 is if you don't agree to option 1 then break away completely and no more basketball tourney and other olympic sports. No more padding the schedule at the beginning of the year. We don't have much power as it is so we don't have much to lose anyway. I would be happy with either of these two.

That would be a dream scenario for UNT and if it happened I have no doubt we could match these other school's stadiums with immediate expansion. Unfortunately the route right now goes SBC--->CUSA----->AAC----->Big12 Its very hard to jump out of that path. UTSA did so by showing great attendance and jumped from the WAC to CUSA. Fortunately for us TCU/Houston/SMU are down right now and we have to keep it that way. The landscape has settled down somewhat but with change in the BCS there is always a chance something drastic happens when a new system is put into place. Keep winning games, win conference championships, win bowls, and we will get a look if an opening comes up.

I thought it was said that the first expansion to happen would be to add suites on the student side and another deck on top of that. Also I know the wing was made for quick take down being steel, but would expansion mean taking it out and replacing it with cement or adding additional steel structure to fill it in?

New scrappy sucks. Who made that costume? Someone please message RV and tell him to have a old one remade. -
Derek Thompson is a Mean Green Hero
Green Otaku replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
I would say his best game ever was the one @ Kansas State. He was playing at another level, (my opinion of course ) -
Because those programs have built up name recognition for decades, if we had national championships and $3.5 billion endowment no one would care we were North Texas. Most move ups in recent times have had directional names and that has created a stigma.

I have been a big DT criticizer. I still stand by that he has had some off games (Tulane, UTSA) and has been inconsistent at times. With all that though you can tell he worked his butt off and was prepared to play at the HOD Bowl. He came out and proved that his better showings are the real him. One thing I have never questioned was his heart, from the time he jammed his finger going over the bench to the injury (knee cap?) yesterday. Just pure grit and determination. Thank you DT for all you have done, all the big hits you have taken, all the flak you have taken from fans, and still rose above it all. Thank you. And that goes out to all of our men who suit up and represent our school. Thank you for this fantastic season Edit: One other quick mention. The men and women of the staff/Athletic dep. Thank you for all the hard work on the sidelines and behind the scenes! -
I guess I should say that I'm sad I don't get to troll that pathetic excuse for a troll anymore
