  1. The school has made great strides to get to where it is now. Being big doesn't mean being a good school so I'm not sure what that has to do with academic standards. An even playing field? You mean like conference play? Where our best season did not even get us a conference championship? You are oversimplifying how hard it is to keep consistency at a G5 school. If it were that easy DD would have kept winning conference championships and built something more. Money and backing are good but for a G5 team it's about building success over years to get ahead. The very nature of being a G5 team leads to instability, just the way it is. Case in point, look at the great job JJ did with the basketball program, and how all that came crashing down with 1 bad hire. If this realignment stuff moves quickly we are woefully behind where we need to be.
  2. Someone should have told them that was one of the easiest things to change before we took all those Ls.
  3. Seriously? If that is the easiest factor to change why, in our 100+ history as a team, have we not been able to change it? Let it sink in that we have two years under Fry as the only time making any kind of national noise. The reality is that is one of the hardest things to change, and unfortunately with our long history we have dug ourselves into a deep hole as far as perception goes.
  4. Very unlikely. TCU, Tech, OSU and Baylor would be more likely to lobby into the PAC, Big 10, AAC, or MWC. And if they did form a new conference it would be a slim chance UNT gets invited. We always want to look at it as what's most beneficial to us, but if you put yourself in their shoes, say you were OSU or TCU, and could have your pick of members to form a new conference without biases who would you pick? UNT would be far down the list.
  5. Judging by the negative feedback people don't like the cold, hard truth. Because that's what this is right here.
  6. "It seems" and from what would you conclude that? From the few hours he has been the HC? No one knows if he will be a good hire at this point. There is nothing wrong with being excited about our new HC, it's ridiculous to talk about being taken to the promised land without even a single practice yet. Is this even a debatable topic? If being rational is "pissing on optimism", then I don't know what to tell you.
  7. The team hasn't even played a down yet and people want to cling to some idea that "the perfect storm" is brewing? Let's at least have the level headedness to let the man do his job and evaluate the results when you know, the results are shown on the field. Crazy idea huh?
  8. I sure hope so. I'm pulling for Littrell, I think he would be a fantastic hire.
  9. Like I said in the other thread people are acting like Texas is some special place only those with recruiting ties can recruit in. It's a state like any other state. If they are good recruiters they will be able to recruit.
  10. Why are people so adamant about the HC having Texas ties? Like Texas is some special place that people can't recruit in if they don't. If they can recruit, they can recruit.
  11. @1:22 -2:00 is that the best traffic footage they could find for I35? I wish LA traffic was like that. Lol.
  12. You could do what the spanish do, at the end of the match when they want a coach fired during a bad season they wave white handkerchiefs. The tradition came from bullfighting but it is also used to show displeasure by the crowd. Doesn't sound too intimidating but when you have a whole stadium basically waving little white flags in your face, you get the message.
  13. Please no. This is embarrassingly dorky.
  14. Some would call that dodging a bullet
  15. Because that is what you are saying is the best for us, and what would benefit us the most. Do you think the P5 conferences are looking to help the rest of us out? Why would the SEC worry that we aren't represented? These conferences are looking out for themselves, they want to keep the level of separation they have.
  16. Possibly a bad time for NT to have a horrible season. I would not be surprised if the Big12 wants to take two and one or two of those may come from the AAC. If any of the TX schools get chosen we are probably on the bottom. Rice has the best chance and UTEP is only hindered by their location. UTSA has the perception that they will be a break through program. Not good to have a season like this.
  17. Boiled my blood when I saw Mack Brown on ESPN say, "Look, there were times that we knew we were getting advantages because we were Texas. What are you going to do? Say no?" and how casual he was about it.
  18. IMO the ticket is long term success. I would rather have 5 or 6 seasons that we go 8-4, 9-3 or 10-3 (champ game) than 1 season at 12-0. As soon as you hit the bottom the following season your accomplishments disappear. You establish yourself, get some conference championships, win bowls. Thats how you change perception and reputation. We also need the leadership both on the staff and in the athletic department. That is a huge piece of the puzzle.
  19. NIU would be my top choice. CUSA should at least see if they are interested.
  20. Yes thank you. We are a G5 school, and we will struggle unless we put up big $$$. People get frustrated and down but that is our reality. The old timers should know, they have seen the facilities/money difference over the years, we have to work with what we have and improve.
  21. I disagree, I see it as level headed and not have a delusion of what we really are. No we shouldn't accept losing, and everyone was excited about Mac when he came in. Things may or may not improve next year but we are a school without the budget to get a big name coach. Go look at the coaching salaries and see how far down we go, we can't match the $$$ of there schools so we have to roll the dice and hope we get lucky. Make no doubt about it, if we get a coach that takes is 10-2 or 11-1 back to back we will lose them, the only way we can really improve is to build up slowly over a long stretch of time, something that is very hard to do and even harder to find the person to take us there. Even for a team like Boise st. with all their success lost a lot of steam losing 4 games in 2013.
  22. Sorry I'll try and be more clear. After last year I feel that many people have crashed down because of how the team played this year, people quickly forget all the years that weren't so great. UNT had a lot of those unfortunately. It's either one side of the spectrum or the other with our fans, either we have arrived or we are the worst. I feel like people are afraid to see it for what it really is, we don't have much of note on the national stage. People are surprised when we hit bumps in the road but if you look back on our history it is actually the norm. Posters seem to quickly forget that when get any type of success. Really that's all my comment is.
  23. ?? sorry I don't get the joke.
  24. just a jab at the metroplex
  25. Am I wrong? How many nationally renowned seasons have we had? I support this team through and through. Even in the loss today I thank all those players for putting on a Mean Green uniform. It's not about settling, its about being honest and working hard to improve your program. Just because I am being realistic doesn't mean I don't think we can and should do everything to improve.
