From this point on every loss is on WB

I haven't downvoted you once. I agree with everything you say except blaming WB. It's easy to say do this or that when you aren't the one having to look at the finances/spreadsheets and coming up with that type of money. Everyone wants SL gone by tomorrow, but I understand that there may be reasons as to why that isn't possible yet. -

You sound deranged. No one in the country does things in that manner. -

You and everyone knows that's not how it works. You don't go into a season with firing the coach in mind at least not outwardly/or even behind closed doors. Do you know the kind of media nightmare would occur if anything leaked that the AD was looking for options to fire the coach before the season even started? I know emotions are high, but let's bring some reasoning in here. The work starts now, I can only assume Baker and the rest of the AD are working behind the scenes and analyzing all of their options. I'll wait for the results, and judge them on that. -

It's easy to say WB should fire him now when you're not in the nitty gritty of all the details. If it were as easy as snapping your fingers, I'm sure WB would do it. None of us know the inner workings, politics, financial constraints, and any number of other things going on in the AD. Nobody is happy with how things are going. I trust WB to make the choice from now to the end of the season as soon as it is feasible. -
Why jump on a life boat when you can wait to see how things pan out on the ship right?

Sounds believable. CSU and AF have been frank about the reasons they were considering leaving, one of those was central and eastern time zone exposure. I'm sure they are working with those schools and their network partners to see if there is any value to adding teams.

Welcome Billings, I have kept close tabs on the MWC board, from what I saw there is a good number of posters there would be ok with UNT. Others don't believe we would raise the payout (which is likely true) and see no need to expand. I was surprised that some thought we wouldn't move, thinking why we wouldn't just choose the AAC. UNT has no clear path to the AAC as long as SMU is there, and honestly once the departing AAC teams leave the MWC will be the top G5 conference. I see UNT's invitation as a pretty far off possibility, but I hope it happens. Cheers 🍻

2 posts. Seems legit.

I can't even think of a scenario where UNT replaces Baylor. Look we need to realize that there are steps to going P5. MAC, SBC, CUSA---> AAC, MWC---> P5 There is zero chance of skipping a step. One of the main reasons I want to go to the MWC is we need to get away from SMU, no they can't keep us out but they are a roadblock if we have similar or lesser results. The scenario I hate is: SMU is passed over for the Big12, we have no chance of getting in to the AAC. Then Big 12 expands or PAC 12 expands and takes Tech/OKST/Baylor/TCU and SMU moves to the Big12. We go to the AAC. (this could take years or even decades) Now what? We wait decades to get in to a P5? Let's forge our own path instead. MWC gives us a clearer path to get to a P5 slot in the future. Pac 12 almost took Houston, so who's to say if we move to the MWC and do great we wouldn't be considered. At the very worst, being in the MWC gives you a shot at a NY6 bowl slot, something CUSA will never do.

MWC will be the top G5 when Cincy, Houston, and UCF leave.

I think we can all honestly agree that we are selling our potential right now. Hundreds of thousands of Alums and many of them in DFW means if the MWC can help build us up to ideally a Boise St. style run we can pull a good chunk of eyes. Also don't forget that these teams value Texas recruiting, a team in Texas opens up more possibilities for every team in the MWC.

SMU might listen to the MW, but ultimately it doesn't make sense for them. They would have to pay 10 million (minimum) in exit fees, at this time a lesser pay out, more travel, and they would move away from their small private peers (Tulsa, Tulane.) I just don't see how it benefits them enough to make the move.
-
Ah so now everyone wants to be buddy buddy with the MWC? If I were them I'd go for the KO punch and reach out to Memphis.
-
How's that gamble looking now?
-
Maybe. I'm just saying there a good chance they have some resistance from the UC schools.

I think all of us in this thread wholeheartedly agree with caution and looking before we leap. Do your research and due diligence. Also it should be said when posters are saying we should go to the MWC, everyone is referring to a MW that is either intact or loses only AF and CSU. Any more than that and I think everyone would agree that we would have to re-evaluate the move. Any big change involves risk, I'd rather take a shot at a great possibility should it present itself than just sit on the sideline and hope for the best.

Again I see this problem easily fixed in negotiations. You ask for a clause that lets you reconsider joining if the MWC loses any members before UNT joins without penalty or exit fees. Or even better a grace period of 2-5 years after joining that would let you leave the MWC with no exit fees if they lose members. I would hope our leadership is smart enough to look out for our best interest.

SDSU are going to face a big roadblock from Berkley and UCLA. For those that don't know there are 2 university systems in California the UC system and the Cal State one. The CSU system was intentionally set up to be a lower level of university not offering doctorates and not focused on research. I'm not saying it won't happen, just that it's going to be a steep uphill battle. That's why they get talked about going to the Big12 so much, even they see it as their only chance.

No way those programs leave a conference where they make over 4 million a year to make 400k in CUSA.

Yes and no. If UNT were winning championships and getting top25 rankings there would be no question about us joining despite SMU being there. Basically we aren't offering enough to not be ignored and for the AAC to look for new markets instead. The yes part comes strictly from location. Without SMU there we become a natural replacement based on location only.
