Could we possibly get passed over?
MeanGreenWithEnvy replied to BIG DAWG's topic in Mean Green Football
Take care of business against Tulsa and we'll get an invite to Heart of Dallas. Lose to Tulsa and we're at the mercies of the bowl selection committees. So, as it was before yesterday's game and as it was before the Rice game, take care of business. -
The weather forecasts look like they're getting dicier and dicier every four hours or so. Per NWS, precipitation chances for tomorrow in Denton have risen from 20% to 40% and there's sleet mixed in with the rain. That being said, the temps aren't cold enough right now in Denton for stuff to stick on the roads. It is forecast to freeze here tonight (barely), but temps should get above freezing tomorrow morning. The best chances for accumulation of stuff here in Denton aren't until Sunday and Monday. I would suggest embracing the wisdom of the Hitchhiker and bringing a towel to the game tomorrow to wipe off your seat. All that being written, I'll be at Apogee no matter what. GO MEAN GREEN!

Here's the NOAA forecast for Denton: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Denton&state=TX&site=FWD&lat=33.2142&lon=-97.1309#.Uo56j1RDsnY I trust in NOAA and WFAA for local weather above all others. When I started this thread, I wrote that we ought to check back on the forecast on Thursday. Yep, going to be colder than forecast earlier in the week. The Arctic air that's headed our way has moved a lot quicker than anticipated, so instead of transitioning from warmer to cooler as thought earlier in the week, now it's looking like we'll have the legit cold air on us Saturday.

UTSA Fans: "Apogee Stadium, the Dark story"
MeanGreenWithEnvy replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Lunch is almost over, so I don't have a lot of time to fill in the details, but this Runner definitely confounded the facts here. The SGA stuff he cited was a separate issue from Apogee altogether. It happened years before the vote that got Apogee rolling. -

Football vs. Library argument popping up again
MeanGreenWithEnvy replied to JesseMartin's topic in Mean Green Football
You bring up some good points, but I'm out of time to discuss things tonight. I'll follow up tomorrow. -
Football vs. Library argument popping up again

You want to cut $1.7 million annually in staff positions from the library? What are we going to staff it with, student workers? -
Football vs. Library argument popping up again
MeanGreenWithEnvy replied to JesseMartin's topic in Mean Green Football
There are level heads calmly discussing the differences in funding models and that is what I would encourage anyone here who jumps into the discussion to do. Calling people who are fired up about the administration kneecapping the library "hippies" and "baristas" and other meant-to-be-demeaning terms is counterproductive. This is a great opportunity to educate people about the differences between athletic funding and academic funding and how the "football versus academic" us-against-them is a foolish strawman. If you love your alma mater, you need to be furious about this Budget Office decision. -
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/bowl-projections-post-week-11-edition-135304002--ncaaf.html Liberty Bowl New Year's Eve against Tennessee? Be still my Mean Green heart!

Same here, JRock. Shoulders with Darnell and Rex looked bad, especially Darnell. Rex looked more dejected that in pain, but Darnell as in pain and dejected.
-
Let's hope those shoulder injuries on Darnell and Rex are the kind that will heal with a bye next week.

Didn't realize their AD didn't hire Pelini. Even though I could see how this would give him a buyout-free way to get rid of Pelini, this sounds pretty spectacular. Having the cops escort Pelini and the dc from their offices? Wow. That's pretty dysfunctional. Not for nothing, their game against Tulane on Saturday is also their Homecoming. Most high-profile time of the season to pull a move like this one.
-
So either there's really something we're not hearing or this was, in my opinion, one massive over reaction.
-
Oh wow. It's also FAU's Homecoming this weekend!

Gotta be something more than being at an event were weed was smoked. Heck, I'd argue there has to be something more than THEM smoking weed. Neither of those things warrants a resignation effective immediately.
-
Following @coachingsearch on Twitter. He says not a good situation and he won't discuss it. FAU holding press conference in ~20 minutes.

Backing up meangreenthirteen, @coachingsearch tweeted the same thing about police being at the FAU facility this morning. Defensive coordinator is out, too.

Question for UNT students on the ground in Denton
MeanGreenWithEnvy replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm asking every undergrad I know to show up on Thursday. It's nice to have a compelling story to tell them about how this team is fun to watch and doing well. In my experiences, the old three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust reasons like "you should go because it's your school" just don't work with most folks who haven't been to a game. Being able to approach them with some great performance on the field is a great boost in converting maybes into yeses. -
Question for UNT students on the ground in Denton
MeanGreenWithEnvy replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm in a bit of weird position being both a graduate student and a staff member, so I'm not anywhere close to being a representative sample. None of my Ph.D. cohort are talking about it, but that's not surprising. I've offered to take a few of them to games before, but they're not interested. In all fairness, most of them who live here in town are foreign nationals and American football isn't really their thing. Lots of talk among staff about the game. I spent about 20 minutes talking to an executive-level administrator about it earlier today. The iPad Air giveaway is good thinking; promotions like that ought to convert a few maybes into butts in seats for those who are considering going but are on the fence about it versus getting their Halloween partying started early. I really like that kind of active, engaged stuff to get new people to the stadium. We should be doing something like this every game. -
Wild Card For Rice -- Weather Forecast
MeanGreenWithEnvy replied to MeanGreenWithEnvy's topic in Mean Green Football
meangreenthirteen is on point, too. Rice runs well, but they're not stopping opponents' rushing. Back field-by-committee could really wear down that thin D line. Hope Reggie can go and Jim-Jim can hold onto the ball. -
Wild Card For Rice -- Weather Forecast
MeanGreenWithEnvy replied to MeanGreenWithEnvy's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree with Green92. Rice runs...and runs...and runs. They're 15th in the nation in rushing offense coming into this game. The ran on New Mexico State at will two weeks ago, but New Mexico State also sports one of the most generous defenses in the nation. The Owls also ran against UTEP, another poor defensive team. Defensively, we're 23rd in the nation in points allowed. We're coming off stifling two opponents' running games, holding both USM and Tech each to less than 40 yards rushing. Neither of those teams is anywhere near as good at running the ball as Rice is, though. Going to be a heck of a game, folks! -
The handful of y'all I know here offline know that I chase storms and do SKYWARN stuff in the Spring and early Summer. I keep an eye on the weather in North Texas, and we might have an interesting situation on our hands Thursday evening. Tomorrow, we'll have a front push through North Texas kicking off all kinds of rain and thunderstorms. Coverage should be broad across the region, and forecasts are calling for heavy rain tomorrow into tomorrow evening. The rain should be gone by kickoff on Thursday evening, but the forecast is predicting something that could have an impact on the play calling on both sides of the ball: wind. From the NWS page for Denton, Texas for Thursday: "A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. South wind 15 to 20 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph." Right now, the wind isn't forecast to turn back to the south until around midnight, so it looks like we might be in for a windy game at Apogee. Anchor those tailgate canopies and get ready for some Mean Green football!
