Breaking News: Jalie Mitchell out as North Texas Coach
meanJewGreen replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Basketball
It's going to be real curious who this hire ends up being. There's a lot of potential with women's basketball. All of our sports have been elevated, and Jalie did it to some extent. We've seen with other programs around the country and in the WNBA that enthusiasm is building in women's sports I could see the right hire elevating the program similar how DeLong has elevated softball -
That was such a weird game.

The guy could recruit but it nevr translated on the court. This is a program with some high expectations.
-
Not only that, but HBCU's play an absolute murderous non-con to help fund their programs- see this year's below What I heard too was that he's got 40-50 family and friends between Houston and Louisiana, so its a good setup for him. Always liked him here, but could never perform when there were expectations

Sorry but I feel like they screwed us
meanJewGreen replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Meh. Not about consecutive 20 win seasons. Gotta win at the right time. We always seem to have bad losses late in the year, and can't get a huge signature noncon win. I think if we made it to the final either last year or this year we woulda had a better shot. -
I call it getting paidddd and moving up. If someone offered you a 400k raise, and a $$ conference and a chance to burnish your resume you take it. If people are stepping UP from UNT vs getting fired..... we're in good shape

Why would she have taken her best player out on purpose?
-
This is a tough one for me. She is a great ambassador for the program, great person overall, and fantastic alum. She's got 4 years over .500 but barely. Had two good years beforehand. We gave Slinker 20 years despite 5 good years out of 21. Does she deserve another year or two? More and more universities are throwing good dollars behind their women's basketball programs and seeing amazing results. Is it time for us to change course? I say no despite what she represents to the university.

I remember doing midnight maneuvers when I was at UNT but it more involved walking from Lucky Lou's, to Fry Street Tavern and finishing up at R Bar for a Friday night

Their pitcher was dealing too. Umps gave them a lot of generous balls as well. Well attended by the Green. We had a nice little section with some others scattered about

Me thinks there's gonna be a good bit of green in the stands tomorrow in Austin....

American (AAC) Football Schedule Released Tomorrow (2/21)
meanJewGreen replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Football
This is probably the best schedule in 35 years. Home P5 Other than Ruston, all fun road trips (and direct flights) FCS that travels well (I think) Well-known schools Only blemish is the Saturday Tgiving game, SMU game sucks that its on Fri, but probably will be ESPN game -
It’s not that the school isn’t behind them. Athletic center expansion is first priority, and for good reason- we’ve outgrown our current one. they’re not just adding sports to add them. They’re ensuring the infrastructure is there to support other sports

UNT Women’s Basketball Downed by LA Tech
meanJewGreen replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Athletics
Doesnt matter if a man or woman, matters if they can coach. Best coaches in the womens game now are women (well, and Geno) Dawn Staley, Mulkey at LSU, Stanford coach, Niele Ivey at Notre Dame, Kara Lawson, Teri Moran at IU Jalie is a great ambassador, but she's got a lot to learn. I'm really sad this isn't working out. -
You just been given the job as the Head Promoter

How much are you paying me? -
Looking the other way isn’t a crime in some cases, but it says a lot about you as a person and the culture you create. this is also a great time to point out that we shouldn’t be looking to football coaches as moral arbiters in our society. Rather, they should be viewed the exact opposite. and it’s always weird to see some of you say “put it to rest it’s been 10 years” when some of you don’t realize that women sometimes deal with the aftermath for the rest of their lives.

Yeah it’s pretty embarrassing honestly. Ample opportunities to do so too- conference championship, bowl game, basketball games, not casting stones at all. Either we’re serious about this or we aren’t.

Ok this is a fun thread. I'd be curious- what are everyone's top 5 Denton restaurants from the time they were there (when I was there, there was no LSA Burger, or similar) For reference, I was there from 06-10 1. Central Grill - always saw a lot of school spirit there too 2. NY Sub Hub 3. Old West Cafe 4. Beth Maries 5. Tie between Chicken E/ Tomato/ and RipRocks sandwiches (probably gross now, but great as a college kid) El Guapo was another one.... I know folks have mixed reviews @Jason Howeth

Doesn't he have like 40 family members in the metroplex? Let's see what else around here opens up this year, though I dont count on much.

Not a crusade (odd use of the word btw). Just think it’s overused, as a way to shield people from responsibility, especially in the football world. (And politics but that’s a whole other topic) Mac is the epitome of one as you said, and should be the model for anyone bringing faith into their coaching practice.
