tastygreek mentioned SMU as possible rumored destination on the last page
-
SMU could free up a ship, cause TK graduates in December. That said, it's not clear if they have actual interest in Williams, should he even have interest in them. I don't believe his Dad is much of a Doh fan, or wasn't a few years back.

the dirty little secret is that many, if not most coaches these days, lead kids on. Everyone is led to believe they have a scholarship, so kids list schools to services etc. Staffs use their rivals/scout publishers to pump info out of kids. By doing what the staff wants, rivals/scout get more access etc. They use publishers to get info the kids wouldn't give to the staff's themselves etc. The reality is that rivals/scout etc, report more inaccurate offers than actual offers, b/c they get their lists from the kids. Many staffs are new media savvy as well. I've seen certain publishers build a player profile for a non-prospect, just as a favor to the staff, who were recruiting non-prospects best friend.

Appreciate the response. I like your coach and your program. If a thread is titled NT vs SMU in bb recruiting, chances are I'll take the bait..lol

Look, I'm on the record about Robinson over here, well before he gave UNT a verbal. This doesn't have to do w/UNT, it has to do w/Robinson, whom I've watched in personal work-outs more than my fair share. I'm happy that you guys like him and are happy, but it doesn't give you ammo in a SMU vs UNT debate, that simple. SMU wasn't even recruiting Forrest, and hasn't for well over a year. He doesn't have 90% of those rivals offers either. To say SMU would have taken him in a second is just false. They already have Cunningham & Norman in the same class, who both play he same position as Forrest etc. I've been quite complimentary of several of the kids you have verbals from (Williams, Jones) and have no problem admitting when UNT actually beats SMU for a kid(Williams). You want real & no spin, so don't expect me to wax poetic on Robinson or Norris. No idea about the JUCO kid, but even defended his frosh numbers over here, when some of you were slamming him. I'm being nothing but consistent. Didn't like Robinson way before I knew he was a UNT possibility, don't like him now. Clear enough

This thread is a trap..lol It's also an awful thread. Getting a verbal from Forrest Robinson isn't chest-pounding time.
-
Lol, congrats.

in other news, Scott Drew has decided to thumb his nose at the NCAA yet again. They are going to rape Baylor basketball in the next 3 years. They've been on his tail for a year, and his relationship w/D-One Sports is filthy. Muich smoke, much fire. Do you get the Death Penalty being a God-fearing Calipari, on the heals of the Dennehy fiasco?

Guerrero is incredibly flashy and exciting. Human mixtape. He also palms the ball every possession 10 times, pounds the air out of the ball, and may actually be a tiny combo trapped in a PGs frame. Either way, he'll get his, just not sure he makes his team better
-
I'd agree w/you for the most part, but he is a tremendous athlete that does 'turn it on' on occasion. See last summers Pangos Camp. He has nice upside, but you always have to be weary of kids that just don't produce in the way they should, w/consistency. That said, Huggins & Hahn have a way of pushing buttons, so he's probably worth the risk. Robinson's supposed offers are perplexing
-
Quite a few CUSA level players in that class..lol. Cezar Guerrero is already the most entertaining player the Sun Belt has had in forever, and he's not even eligible till '11. Would have loved to have him at SMU
-
Am I missing the thread on you guys worrying about WKU's class? What a weekend that school had in hoops recruiting
-
but but Cannen Cunningham has the highest national rating of any player in either class. Rivals has Cannen as the 94th best player in america, Jordan at 108 etc. Also, SMU doesn't have anyone outside the low 30s on texashoops, while UNTs PG of choice is a lowly 70 or so. Don't play that ratings game nonsense. They are both good classes, and both still have ships to give. Does SMU get to include London giles as part of the '11 class, cause he transferred in, and that's when he's eligible. He was top 15 on texashoops.com in 08. What about Troy Alexander, he transferred in as well, isn't even on scholarship, and was Top 20 in texas in 08 etc. Guess what, none of that crap matters, just know both programs got kids who can play and help immediately
-
I really don't understand the interest in this kid, other than length. Its almost impossible to state how soft he is right now.
-
SMUs roster is pretty darn good heading into '11-'12, so I really don't see him as a starter, much less the go-to guy. At least, not right away. That will undoubtedly be the most the talented SMU team since Sasser/Ross/Davis/Hancock etc. FWIW, there was no used salesman approach, Doh has had a good relationship w/Jones'family forever. What many don't realize is that Doh has relinquished the Xs and Os, and no longer runs the O & D. He's basically a figurehead that recruits now, which is very different than the past. Doh motivated and on the trail, as his primary responsibility, is a good look for SMU.

Ha, I have thick skin. I like Williams & Jones a ton and readily admit it. I may like Jones the most, actually. Trey Norris is a good little player, but I'm not sold, nor were many other schools. SMU and UNT both have nice little classes right now. It's all about how they close. I really hope neither team drags a bunch of ships to the Spring.
-
Good pick-up for SMU, I think they are pretty close on Cannen Cunningham as well. They have a very nice class coming together, much like UNT
-
I'm a big Jones fan. Great get for UNT. Always thought more of him than Gotcher, so I expect him to play well early, especially if his hand heals up properly. Good pull.
-
they tried to two years ago, it was ugly.
-
LOL, did you guys see the new texashoops.com rankings? Trey did not fair so well. Any of you ever seen Sterling Gibbs? His final 2 were Maryland & Pitt. That's a far cry from what Trey had on the table. Carry on.
-
I'm a Maryland grad and Terp, first and foremost. Trey will be good for UNT, cause that's his level as deemed by everyone offering free rides. This isn't an SMU perspective, Trey is what he is. Good player, limited upside, mid major kid. If Maryland got a verbal from Trey, the fans would revolt, is that what you want to hear?
-
Height is absolutely a huge part of a kid's ceiling. What do you think of 6'5 PFs? Think they have big upside? As for your examples, Trey isn't on the same planet as Bogues, Spud or Earl. Hell, I grew up in baltimore, so to even mention Mugsy in the same breathe as Trey is comical. One was an all-time great, that ran the show for possibly the best public school high school team in the last 35 years. He was a high major recruit at 5'3, same w/Spud. There are always exceptions to the rule, they just aren't likely
-
Good player, not hating at all. It's just that nobody who spent time on the circuit this summer agrees that he's the best local PG, and that includes heads, local ballers, evaluators, coaches etc. If he were 6'2 he'd have upside, unfortunately he's a mighty mite. He'll be good for UNT, no argument there. I just don't buy the best local PG line for a second, and glad you qualified it, that's all.
-
Thank heavens you qualified that take w/'in your opinion.' Good player and all, but wow
