  1. No offense, but it would be regarded as a bad loss for SMU, far more than a good win. That's the reality of losing to a team in a less profile conference, unless they are a mid major that might as well be a high, see Memphis, Butler, Gonzaga etc. You guys can destroy SMUs schedule all day, and for good reason, but the goal needs to be more high mids and high majors. They're just going to dump the D2 type teams for low low majors anyway. Those are scheduled to be Ws, so they are going to schedule teams they can beat w/those dates. They aren't going to ditch sure fire Ws for a 50/50 backyard brawl type game.
  2. I'm not against scheduling you guys, I just had input from some coaches(not SMU) as to why games like that aren't really happening anymore, which they aren't. Take it for what it's worth. Multiple coaches, none affiliated w/SMU, said it makes no sense for SMU or schools like SMU. FWIW, SMU's SOS and RPI will go up in the next few years. There was never any intent of making it perennially awful, once they had the firepower to compete vs a better grouping of teams. We'll see
  3. Where did I say anything about SMUs schedule or playing 4-5 division 2 or 3 schools a year? I didn't. None of the conversations I referenced had anything to do w/SMU, other than them being a rapidly improving program. I understand why they scheduled that way this year, but it's not like it had my rubber stamp of approval. I'm one of the few that actually vented about the schedule, as it was being made, to the powers that be. You may want to beat the pants off SMU in hoops, but to say you're far ahead, based on what's on everyones roster next year, is a farce.
  4. SMU hoops is rapidly improving. We get both our '10 & '11 class eligible next year, as well as the two transfers The issue w/playing UNT in hoops is that it's regarded as a 'no win' for SMU. I was discussing this same topic w/a college coach the other day. He said that he felt AAU was the death of the crosstown rivalry nationally. Since all these kids play each other, there will always be those kids that feel slighted, play w/a chip on their shoulder. The team in the higher power conference gets screwed by getting into a backyard brawl etc. Maybe they get a slight RPI jump if they win, but since it's a less profile league, it's not a 'good' win on the resume. He went on to say that mid-teams don't want many '50/50' games on their schedule. They want to pay for sure fire Ws, and be in a position to slay Goliath 2 or 3 times, add in a good conference record etc. FWIW, that's not my take, but I've heard it a few times, from guys at different schools, and thought it was interesting. I will say this, after profiling a bunch of areas/cities, specifically back east, there are many of these potential OOC 'rivalries' that have fallen dormant. Its not just SMU & UNT.
  5. I'd like to see it, but there has to be something in it for SMU/TCU, as they already play.
  6. It's been a really fun tournament so far, tons of close games etc. THe two games at Moody certainly didn't benefit from Spring Break, but I think next years numbers will jump some. Not just playing in this tourney, but having the kind of games we've been having, helps moving forward. Going to Northern Iowa is going to be fun, and is a decent CUSA/MVC match-up. No one is claiming it to be what it's not, but it's late March and my team is playing OOC games, I'd have loved to see during the year. No real financial loss, build some momentum w/a very good roster next year. It's win/win for everyone
  7. great thread. lol @ those sanctions. SMU hoops is doing just fine. Pretty darn talented and deep next year. We appreciate Mangrum, he's a very good kid. High character
  8. all 3 of those guys are wings on the next level, not back to the basket kids. It's no surprise they are trying to face, despite being the tallest kids on the team
  9. Very nice & thx. Good Luck!
  10. Guys, Good Luck tonight! Is this on Directv somewhere? I'd love to watch. Have fun!
  11. FWIW, SMU is positioning & petitioning for a move up, should that day come. Not sure what the move would be for them, but if CUSA wants them to stay(provided they had a legit destination other than CUSA) part of the provision would be no UNT. I'm told UTEP/Houston/Rice would probably vote the same way.
  12. Well, I'd like to see them upgrade the OOC a ton next year, but not sure that includes a UNT/SMU game. Right now, they've added New Mexico, Ole Miss, possibly Creighton etc. It would be good for the fans, that's for sure. I admit to not knowing a ton about your roster next year. beyond the incoming frosh & possibly Mitchell.
  13. don't hate, Doh and crew are having fun this year. You should see his half court dance after wins. They've surprised all of us, and the system is incredibly efficient. Oh yeah, the roster is very very good next year. Thanks for Mangrum, he's an energetic kid and helped a ton. He's having a blast
  14. First off, there really isn't much talk about Mitchell over there, just a single thread. Second, you guys all know that between Mitchell and Henry, you still don't have one qualified kid. Even your own guys were on the SMU board last week making fun of Henry, questioning if anyone was throwing his future away as bad as he is, and I responded Mitchell, which was well before either were rumored to you. UNT guy responded 'touche' etc. People are making fun of UNT academically b/c they can, not b/c its a cheap shot. You open yourself up when you bring on those types of kids. That said, you have loopholes other schools don't, so kudos if they matriculate. SMU is 13 deep next year, nobody is sweating UNT. We don't even play. It's funny more than a bitter thing. We've been onto '12 for months now. FWIW, very strong rumors that TJ Taylor will be a Mustang. Same folks that knew about Williams months beforehand
  15. Provided no lock-out, he'd be smart to test the waters this year w/no agent. Scouts/evaluators don't care if he's had to sit the year, they are more interested in upside and ceiling. If he shoots it well at 6'10 and handles, they'll just call him Rashad Lewis and pay to develop him. If his entourage is just counting on him qualifying for next year, that's very short-sighted. He needs to have all angles covered, cause the NCAA isn't a Mitchell fan as of right now.
  16. LOL, nobody is supposed to know about SMUs 10.1, but Pats was suspended for 4 games for playing on a pro team. We're currently 19 games into this season. Mitchell's situation is more than just CLA, goes back to core tampering in the publics as well, I'm told. 10.1 b sounds about right FWIW, please no one confuse my stance here. I despise the NCAA and would like to see every kid provided a chance to earn a living in their chosen profession. Since the current system is all we have, I truly hope Tony has his day
  17. I gotcha, you're a rational fan and I'm just trying to round out the picture. FWIW, SMU has a 10.1 and he's going to play, so it's not necessarily a death sentence. It just makes it a ton harder, especially when you're profile
  18. There is no way of telling. It's certainly worth the risk, cause he's great, but this isn't your typical prop. The NCAA is all over Mitchell for disingenuous transcripts
  19. Greek, his issues are more than being a partial. While looking up the other NCAA link, check 10.1.
  20. I hope it works out for you guys and Tony. The few times I've met him, he seemed like a decent kid. I wouldn't count my chickens, though. The rumors & heads seem to think he's not going to play next year, if the NBA avoids a lockout this offseason. Beyond that, this thread shows basically no understanding of his transcripts and academic situation. As Tasty Greek said, be happy about this, if only for the profile of it. Everything else is speculative.
  21. Censored by Laurie wins this thread.
  22. I don't follow women's ball, although I will now that I have 2 girls. From what I understand, the Lady Mustangs play a competitive brand of ball. Hope she had fun
  23. your guys are doing what they need to do. You can only beat the teams you play, and you've done a decent job w/that. Obviously need to run the SBC and win the tourney, but how is that different from any year? Keep pluggin
  24. I know Cliff Findlay well, Findlay Preps founder, and its far from a fake school. Those kids attend a very reputable private in Henderson, NV. The International school is a far better school than say Lincoln or Kimball, not even close. The school is modeled after the New England prep league schools, which is the best league in America, by far. Simply, Nash is a beast that doesn't play D if he's not dominating on O. He's immature but an exceptional talent when focused. The reason he doesn't defer to Keaton is b/c Keaton is a shrinking violet. There is no way he lasts all 4 years in Morgantown, none. Schools like UNT & SMU should get in his head about transferring now, cause the Big East is going to eat him.
  25. pretty close to being done to smu, though the company line is SMU/TCU/Ark/Oregon. Should know very soon
