Actually, DT was rolling out long after the normal play was over on all three. There are no 7 second sacks.

After Tuesday's game I think we'll see a little more swagger from this team. They'll play with a confidence that hasn't been there before. They know they can come back, so they won't get down on themselves when behind. Chico will open it up earlier in all of these games, so we won't be so predictable. Hell, we might even see 4 in the box against us again if he keeps it up. With Sarge back the D is more able to step up when called upon to do so. This UNT Team changed right before our very eyes on Tuesday and there's no going back. They have no reason to fear any Sun Belt team and now they know it.

He's a puzzle. When he was on the right side he was slow and awkward and was beaten consistently, but when they switched him to LT, he came alive. He moves well, he doesn't get beat much and he gets off the ball well. Usually it's the other way around...LT is the harder position to play. When they made that change last year, I thought it was going to be a disaster, but AJ is a very good LT. He must look like a damn mountain to the DEs he plays. The Rest of The O-Line...Fortenberry has a chance to play of Sundays. He is a big mobile Center and the NFL is always on the lookout for those guys. A couple of years ago, I'd have said Feeley coulda been a good NFL player but his knees are shot. YBarbo is small and the NFL doesn't do small, except he is a ferocious player (our honey badger). Lemon, as much as Mac promotes him, is just a good Guard, but he is young. If he keeps getting better, he's definitely got a shot at Sundays. Aniyam has come on this year and he plays very well. He platoons with Feeley, probably to save Feeley's knees and give Aniyam experience for when he takes over full time next year. Can't tell if he has the NFL potential. The whole crew should be All Sunbelt.

O-Line without whom JimJim and Delgado go nowhere. I was most surprised by Delgado as he never catches anything away from his body until now. Chico is a big surprise too as he has never called that kind of play selection before. I hear he walked into the locker room at halftime and looked his O in the eyes and said; "We're opening it up!"

A shot in the arm for this team's confidence. We can come back; we do have heart, our coaches can get creative, we will play tough football and Sarge lit a fire under our D. Very cool to watch, but I was yelling at them in the first half too.
-
Even the announcers were saying that we are a schedule offensive team and we're not built for comebacks. Don't beat yourself up! A lot of us were screaming at Canales, Mack and DT in the first half.
-
Much more open attack in the second half except for the lunatic calls on the goalline; going in and coming out. Examples; We don't usually run an end around, we haven't run the shovel pass in a long time, we almost never run a screen and I don't think we run a quick toss very much either. We did all of those for big or critical gains tonight. The announcer said we were a schedule offensive team. I guess we showed him. Del Gato almost never catches balls away from his body, but tonight he was on fire. The line play was good as usual, but with only small holes to run thru. Luckily Jim Jim snuck thru them. Powers rarely gets a ball thrown to him and he made a couple of good catches tonight. AND, DEFENSE STEPPED UP! Whitfield had a tremendous second half. Made up for his 1st half mistakes and then some. Those stops in the 2nd half were genius. A lot more blitzes and men in the box. Orr was good and J-Phil was a madman. Somebdy lit a fire under these guys at halftime.

Maybe we should change everyone to the basic package. There are some dumb plays called in our games.

Phil Steel's 2012 Mid Season All-Sun Belt team
jimbob replied to slugg's topic in Mean Green Football
This is crap. The entire O-Line should be on the 1st team. Even the platooning RTs are good enough to be on here. I think this line is ranked 4th in D1 in sacks allowed and 2nd to Oklahoma State on teams that have more then 150 throws this season. Did you watch the DEs on LSU yesterday beat hell out of SC's Tackles? -

That Houston team was 13 & 1 last year & a lot of those guys are back. They got ambushed by TS & they became a completely different team after that. I'd rather you didn't argue with this until you understand the game a little better.
-
Decent coach, not great talent. The only group on this team that has been able to play with any opponent has been the O-line and we don't always capitalize on that. In all honesty, I don't think we have skill players that can run heroic plays. That Houston offense was the best we've played in any game this year. QB had a great game and the RB killed us the whole game. Their line was good. Their D was vulnerable, but DT is not a clutch QB. Our O was actually OK, but had to have two more drives that ate clock so their O could be kept off the field.

If the UNT O-Line plays as they did against K-State
jimbob replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
They are playing very well, but Houston has seen a lot of film on them this year and their D will crowd the line and blitz like hell because that's how Troy, an inferior team, beat us. Canales better have more short passes and safety valve plays up his sleeve than he has in the past and DT will need to look off his main receiver better than he has before and just play better QB to beat these guys. Del Gato has his moments. I often wonder if our TEs can catch because we hardly ever throw to them. -

I hear it's Trice. Should be interesting because he's always jawin at the receivers. -

Nice to see a kid that works his tail off and contributes so much to his team even though he doesn't get a lot of time on the field. http://www.meangreensports.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?&db_oem_id=1800&id=1063836&DB_MENU_ID=&SPSID=9058&SPID=562&DB_OEM_ID=1800

Something positive...One of the least penalized teams in college football...One of the least sacked QBs in college football...Regardless of what the less than knowledgeable fan thinks, this team is considerably better than any Dodge led team. They play harder they're in better shape, they have giant hearts...Mac just hasn't had the time yet to recruit the hands he needs to run a passing offense. DT isn't helping when he has a game like this, but all QBs have them. Some other part of the team has to step up and the OC has to run plays that make up for QBs that're down. The special teams played better this week, it was just the head-case kicker that couldn't get it done. Kickers are like golfers; HEAD CASES. I thought the Troy coach made some hard, but fruitful decisions when his 1st QB wasn't working out. I've seen Osborn play and he might've picked us up if given the chance. It's not a knock on DT and he doesn't lose the job, but he was having a bad night and Mac should've done something about it. On the other hand, when you run up and down the field between the 25s all night long, your kicking game oughta win it for you. Defense did their job.

I like this "Beyond the Number" program on Mean Green Sports every Thursday. It looks like someone is trying to get the student body and fans to get to know the players outside of football, which can only create more interest. It's a little thing, but it's got some legs. There should be one up tonight. http://www.meangreen...&DB_OEM_ID=1800

Really, all of the excuses aside, we played well and KSU didn't until the 2nd half. Snyder adjusted Klein's game at halftime and from then on we would have had to play lights out to beat them. I'd say the D was nowhere to be found in the 2nd half. Klein just stood there until someone came open. We missed McCoy and Philips. But in the end we have a secondary player that has the most tackles on the team and that is a stat that has to change if we're going to compete with big dogs.
