  1. Lifer: You really can't say that the complaints were unexpected given the posting history of the complainers! On the long drive home last night I thought to myself that I would read the board today and the usual suspects would be bitching and moaning. 40 to friggin' 6 and those people can only bitch and moan - Absolutely asinine!
  2. Great! I would also recommend Barefoot, located off the Denton square, as well. They have an excellent selection of T's and other items for both men and women. I sunk a lot of $$$ there about two weeks ago. We will be making a return visit to Barefoot before next Saturday's game. Nice folks, too. GMG!
  3. I received mine Saturday - all the way down here in Tyler! so somebody is on the ball.
  4. Plumm - The Manziel family is of Lebanese descent. There are many Lebanese families in East Texas and especially in Tyler. I know members of several of those families and even had the privilege a decade or so ago of dating one of them. They are wonderful, warm people. But as with every group there are individuals, and even families, that are less wonderful than others. I am not going to get into the background of this family or any other. But if any of you are interested might I suggest that you go to Yahoo and type in "Manziel Tyler Texas" and decide for yourselves if family plays a role in Johnny Manziel's attitude and choices. At the bottom in Yahoo you will see "Search Related" and list of family members. I would suggest you start there as the first of many Yahoo pages are primarily devoted to Johnny Manziel. I do hope the young man makes wise decisions in the future and that he has a successful, and honorable, life.
  5. We would hope so. But understanding that a political appointee to a board of regents does not necessarily have a great affinity for the institution itself makes this totally understandable. While such institutionally detached appointments have occurred throughout the history of this state, this is especially true of political appointees over the past 12 years or so - and especially to boards of regents of Texas public universities. Of course, our assumption in this case is that the story told by Kuehne to Vito is completely true as stated.
  6. I agree with you there. I have a lot of respect for his running abilities - and the coaches must have the same respect as well as he was listed as a defensive back last season. Perhaps there is a minimum number of plays exemption that allows him have played and still be a redshirt freshman. Of course, that is essentially what I was asking with the first posting.
  7. Wow - great memory as yes, I have said this before. I, at least until my home sells, live in Chapel Hill and I watched him through high school and I am pretty certain that I watched him on the field at Apogee; not on the sidelines - on the field. I was surprised for him to be out there as even his own high school coach questioned how Rollins would be used at unt, and I certainly expected that he would be redshirted. He was on the field at Apogee as either a special teams player or in the defensive backfield........my guess is the former. I turned to someone and said "Hey, Rollins is on the field". Could it have been another player with a "20" on his uniform that was playing? Maybe. But I always make sure to check the name on the jersey since we do have some numbers used by more than one player. Being a grad from '72 and '75 my mind is drifty, my eyesight ain't what it used to be, and I am not infallible......so given all of that, take what I have said for what what it is worth. If I am wrong - great! He is a redshirt freshman and we will get four more years from him. Let me also suggest that as a running back he will eventually shine with the Mean Green. He is a Duane Thomas glider as a runner. I think he has a chance to be a very good UNT running back.
  8. Rex Rollins did play last year. Does anyone know how he can be considered a red-shirt freshman?
  9. Thank you, Lifer - Absolutely great posting! On this board we often encounter the "what did you do for me today" crowd (small in number but overly vociferous). Instead of appreciating where we were (like where we were when I first stepped on our campus in 1970, and for the 30 years thereafter), and the great number of sacrifices that have been made by so many to get to where we are today, these people instead criticize at every opportunity - constantly making negative postings about anything related to the FB program or the BB program or the AD or the university administration (and this is not directed toward you, greenjoe - I have read your postings for a long time). Recently, I took one individual on this board to task for making, almost without fail, multiple negative postings on a daily basis about virtually anything athletic at UNT today. That person kind of toned it down - for about 3 - 4 days - and now he is back to his normal continual negativity. As I said in that posting, some folks just thrive on negativity - they cannot be happy if they are not bitching about something, and unfortunately for us, UNT athletics is the constant bitch of the moment for a small group of windbags. I have said this before and it is the truth: If RV had not hired Todd Dodge I would never have returned to UNT for anything athletic-related. I gave to, and supported, the academic side of this university - I had given up giving to or supporting the athletic side after prior years of doing so. Yeah, TD's hiring is generally accepted as a mistake for many reasons, but it was the "potential" that got me involved again in UNT athletics - the fact that RV and the overall UNT administration was beginning to make an effort to improve athletics for the first time in my days of association with this university - that is what caused me to get involved again. Sometimes people like you, Lifer, have to remind some knuckleheads what it was like back-when, and how far we have come since Rick Villarreal stepped on this campus. I am not an apologist for anybody or anything, but if I were, so what? RV has made some mistakes; who the hell hasn't? Let me ask this: How many mistakes did those of you who are most negative about this program make - read my lips now - how many mistakes have you made over the last 10 years at your place of employment? Exactly - the point has been made, provided you have honestly assessed your own history of decision-making! Thanks again, Lifer, for a bit of sanity in this era of manufactured Mean Green negativity. GMG
  10. Bingo! Somebody finally gets it!
  11. Don't bother explaining, Lifer........sadly the point will fly right over the head of certain individuals.
  12. In numbers of teams, you are right - California has a huge number of jucos playing football - an unbelievable number in today's reality of tight finances. As for head-to-head competition, we will probably never know which state/conference has the superior jucos on the football field since it is unlikely that the three named states, Kansas, Mississippi and Texas (+NEO), will ever play teams from the California conferences (because of finances if for no other reason). However, the statement that was made in the original posting was that the Jayhawk Conference was THE superior Juco conference, and since the Jayhawk Conference HAS played the Southwest Junior College Football Conference head-to-head over the past seven seasons, conjecture in that posting was replaced by fact in mine - at least in head-to-head competition.
  13. Well, I am afraid that your conclusion is incorrect regarding the Jayhawk Conference being the best Juco football conference "out there". The numbers do not support your conclusion. Since the 2006 season the first game of each season's football schedule has been devoted to the Kansas Juco teams playing the teams from the Southwest Junior College Football Conference (NEO, Trinity Valley, Kilgore, Tyler, Navarro, Cisco, Blinn). The SWJCFC teams have won the majority of those games every season except for 2010 ( when Jayhawk teams won 4 games and SWJCFC teams won 3 games). The SWJCFC leads the overall series 31 games to 19 over the seven seasons since 2006 (Arkansas Baptist was a member of the SWJCFC for one year - 2009 - and defeated Highland of Kansas that one year in the conference). Good Juco football is played in Kansas, and in Mississippi, but the SWJCFC does not take a backseat to anyone. GMG
  14. Nope, Rollins played last year.......
  15. But, But, But....... then what would we have to bitch about in the off-season?
  16. Uh, care to clarify?
  17. After winning state in 2011 CH graduated about 31 of 41 players. Guess what. They did not have a good season last year. However, I do know of several that could be equal to LL and AT, and some offensive might coming up the ladder, to - know several of the coaches so I will fish around for their thoughts. Keep in mind that UNT's "ace in the hole" is Jeremy Loyd, an assistant coach at CH, who played for Dan McCarney at Iowa State and was instrumental in encouraging Lairamie Lee to sign with UNT - and maybe Tucker, Rollins and Wallace, too. One other "ace in the hole" at CH - Brelan Chancellor's father is an assistant coach at CH.
  18. Like Lairamie Lee, he can knock the crap out of offensive backs and receivers - witnessed first-hand.
  19. Love it! Thanks for a great laugh on a rainy, stormy evening.
  20. Hey Kram - finally we have someone who understands.
  21. I don't know that such ratings were even around back then, but Milton Collins from Blooming Grove, Texas was considered to be a helluva running back coming out of high school and certainly one of our highest-rated recruits up to that time (70s). He signed with NTSU and played considerably - but he was never the "star" he was expected to be. I remember calling the Sports Editor of the Tyler Morning Telegraph on signing day and asking if he knew whether Collins had signed with us or atm...........the sports editor did not know crap about where he signed, but his response to me was "probably atm". Later in the day I learned he has signed with NTSU - laughed - and said to myself "You missed out on that one, aggie!"
  22. If we do I will pee all over myself!!!
  23. I understand what you are saying - I don't necessarily agree or disagree with what you are saying but....... When I read posting after posting after posting from UNT90 that is constantly negative toward this program - it is CONSTANT, not occasional - then after a while the credibility and effectiveness of your postings have shot their wad! Suggestion: Intersperse a few positive postings about the UNT athletic program here-and-there and people - including those at 1301 Bonnie Brae - will tend to pay attention. Believe me, that is fact! Your postings were very enjoyable and informative for a long time - I enjoyed reading them - but for the past year + your constant negativity toward the UNT athletic program............... I guess I have never understood why anyone continues to see only the negative and STILL supposedly supports a program. Honestly, if I felt the way you seem to feel toward this university's athletic program, I would move on to other things for which I have positive feelings - feelings that brought happiness rather than anguish and stress. Hell, you can't even find positive things to say about what most on here feel is a very good inaugural C-USA football schedule! But to each his/her own........as a parting thought: I have a neighbor who is a chronic bitcher.......and she is happy as a clam because she always finds something to bitch about. Just say'in... GMG
  24. I just knew when i posted that yours would be the first "negative' response - just sayin'. I know this is going to blow your mind - and those with similar leanings - but for a multitude of reasons, we are not comparable to SMU.........good, bad, or indifferent, they have a football history that we can only dream about........and it pains me to say so, but in spite of the death penalty - and poor attendance - and some mediocre seasons beginning four years or so and going back - their status as a football school is greater than ours. That, my friend, has a lot to do with their ability to pull relatively quality opponents to Ford Stadium; not their AD. I hope we get there someday, but we ARE NOT there right now.
