  1. Finally, I'm concerned about sitting on the front row. How high will the railing be ? Do I have to stretch to see over it or sit low in my seat to see under it. This is my big concern as well. I have battled the obtrusive front-row railing before. It makes for a miserable experience watching any event. I would like to see this addressed BEFORE I get my few minutes with the "development officer".
  2. The excitement of Mean Green football being played in a new stadium will certainly help create excitement in other areas of your life - continuous excitement, no doubt!
  3. Hey Kram, that was my exact understanding from the beginning of this process (I first visited with the staff last July about making the necessary contributions to get the club seating I wanted and could afford). I do know there are many, many loyal Mean Green Club members who have given far more dollars in the past than I have been able to - and most definitely they should be rewarded with seating priority over me. That is the way to do it -they deserve to do so. But as we both agree, priority should be for the Mean Green Club/season ticket holders and their immediate family based on their priority points - but it should not allow friends and other families to take advantage of that individual's priority points in seat selection. the way you described how that situation would be handled has been my understanding since the beginning of my conversations with the Mean Green athletic staff - and has been reaffirmed in conversations today. I know we are all ready to get this process over with and know with certainty where we are going to be sitting when the Mean Green kicks off on September 10, 2011. I can't wait for the excitement to get underway. GMG
  4. I don’t know what you were told, but I was told from the beginning that all seats would be allocated by priority points. I have no problem with that and I understand that there are many long-time contributors to the Mean Green Club and season ticket holders who will have more points than I will have. They should have their choice of club seating for their families before I choose mine. But I have to be honest here – I would not be a happy camper when my time came to choose club seating if I were essentially bumped from the club seats I would choose because others with more priority points were able to situate their friends/families, with no or fewer priority points than I have, in those seats simply because of some “key” person policy. Regardless of what you may have been told, explain to me the fairness associated with such a policy. And yes, I am a stakeholder in this policy – I will be purchasing club seating.
  5. Could be - Dean is the son of the Chapel Hill High School principal. The father played for Chapel Hill when they won the 4-A state championship in 1989 (I think it was '89). In 2010 CH also had two super running backs in addition to Laramie Lee, although Laramie was the leading rusher with 1,400 yards or so. One of them is Matthew Tucker's brother (Matthew is a running back at TCU) and in my opinion, having seen both of them play, if he is not as good as Matthew, he is close. He will be a senior in 2011. The Chapel Hill QB is Avery Saenz (5’10”, 170). He will be a senior in 2011. Although he is not as large as one would like for a QB, he is among the most accurate passers I have seen at the 3-A level and has a strong arm. He is very cool in the pocket as well as on roll-outs and scrambles. His QB rating is pretty high. If he has a growth spurt in his senior year, he will be quite a recruit for some university. GMG
  6. I talked to my neighbor Thomas Sitton yesterday. He is the head football coach at Tyler Chapel Hill High School and has been a high school coach in Texas for 15 years. One of his players, Laramie Lee, was a 2011 UNT recruit. Laramie played running back and linebacker for Chapel Hill – but was recruited as a safety by UNT. You may remember Lee’s great 2010 stats, and Thomas told me that it was his opinion that Laramie Lee was one of the top five football players in all of East Texas in 2010. He also told me that there are several players of similar quality coming through his program over the next few years and that he would like to see more of his players end up at UNT. The Chapel Hill tie to UNT? Sitton’s wide receivers coach is Jeremy Lloyd who was a two-year All-Big 12 starting linebacker for Dan McCarney at Iowa State. Just thought I would pass on the information. GMG
  7. Great - thanks for the info.
  8. I agree with you 100%.
  9. To the powers-that-be: Thanks for changing the game to Saturday. As a result there will be at least three more people able to attend that would not have been able to attend on Friday. Now, will someone please provide a little help for those of us who do not know the "New Denton" as well as we knew the "Denton of the 70s" - where is this high school stadium located (just a general location will be enough to get me there). Thanks. GMG
  10. Come on, lighten up - What I said was in jest!
  11. 10,875 postings - you are bound to have created a few anti-Plumm folks with that many postings! They ain't gonna like your postings regardless of what you post. :>)
  12. According to Tylerpaper.com "......Lee expected to play safety at UNT."
  13. Not that I really had anything to do with it, but I did recommend Lairamie Lee to one of the UNT Associate ADs a couple of months ago and asked him to pass it on to the coaching staff. He may have already been on UNT’s radar. I was sorry to see him initally commit to UTSA because I thought he had the skills to be recruited at a higher-level football program. I have watched this kid all season (I live in Chapel Hill, which is just outside of Tyler) and he has the skills to be quite a player for the Mean Green. His leadership skills are great – he was the emotional leader of a team that went to the Division One 3-A state championship game this year; he is a heckuva running back, and an even better linebacker. If he has actually committed to UNT, I could not be happier. He is a winner!
  14. You are right. I learned long-ago that "class" and "wealth" are not necessarily synonymous. And I am again reminded: I am glad I did not make a career as an athletic director OR college president.
  15. 'Ya got that one right! Unfortunately for me, at my age I won't live long enough to ever be compensated for the 30-year attitude toward NTSU/UNT athletics of past administrations i.e., being able to enjoy being competitive on a continual basis with the "big boys". It did not have to be this way - but it is. Those of us who lived during the big-boy competitive football years of the mid-to-late 70s know what could have been....... You can decorate it any way you want to, but the four year bowl run of the Dickey years did not compensate......for obvious reasons. I do have a very real hope all of that is behind us and a good athletic future for UNT is in front of us.
  16. I agree, Flyer - these suggestions are about as exciting as the old Southland Conference to me.......and about as "prestigious". Gonna require a lot of us to swallow a lot of pride!
  17. The Mesquite site shows up fairly frequently as the Mean Green Blog. But it is fixed now.
  18. My guess is that what he was really trying to say is that the jump from 2-A to Division 1 college ball would not be that much different for him vs. a quarterback from 4-A or 5-A high school ball. Not that I agree with him, but I would guess that is what he was trying to say.
  19. From behind the Pine Curtain of East Texas, I too, want to wish a Merry Mean Green Christmas Eve and Christmas to everyone.
  20. I am an "N" - I got a "M". They are getting closer!!! Hey Gerald Metzler, Merry Christmas.
  21. Congratulations - What a Christmas present!! I am glad that you are appreciative of the academics at UNT. It was the academics at North Texas State University that so fueled my love for this university (yeah, well Hayden Fry football teams did not hurt!). Have a great career.
  22. To follow up on my earlier comment, I just looked at the 2010 Mean Green roster and out of 88 football players listed, six (6) were from East Texas (Whitehouse; Lufkin: Atlanta; Henderson; Sulphur Springs; and Diboll).
  23. Chapel Hill Dawgs kicked some Carthage butt this year 46 - 14 in the regular season........and then Chapel Hill lost to Henderson in the Division 1 3-A title game 28 - 21 last Friday night in Jerry Jones Stadium (sigh!). East Texas, at all levels, does have some outstanding high school football teams and players. Universities from all over Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana (and beyond) are loaded with East Texas athletes. UNT seldom seems to recruit in this area - with this new coaching staff I am hoping that their focus goes beyond Dallas - Fort Worth on occasion and that they wander down to our area.
