How'd Your Adopted Player Perform?
tylermeangreen replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Football
Mason Y'Barbo, Red-Shirt Freshman Left Guard, steady play in Houston game given only one prior game's experience. -
Sorry to upset you, old buddy - guess the truth hurts, huh? I was not speaking to Baylor - we all know they got into the Big 12 through the political generosity/strong-armed tactics of Ann Richards and Bob Bullock, and UH was left out. Believe me, most of us hope that you go to the Big 12 or elsewhere - and take SMU with you - but if you think traveling 4,000 or less fans is going to get you there (and I was being generous; I really don't think there was anywhere near 4,000 UH fans there) - especially given all of the positives for UH that I mentioned in relation to this game - sir: you are the one that is crazy!
-
As I sat in the stadium and looked at the UH crowd I thought, perhaps, I was observing a really significant reason it will be difficult for UH to be invited to the Big 12 (should the Big 12 survive). I was surprised by the relatively dismal UH turnout for the game. Denton, Texas/UNT - about a 4 1/2 - 5 hour drive from Houston. UH - former Southwest Conference member; a Conference-USA member; a relatively large alumni base in the DFW area; a helluva exciting football team;; whipped UCLA in their first game of the season; and they bring only 4,000 fans to Denton. So, if you are the Big 12 Conference, are you going to take that heavily into consideration when considering which universities to ask to join the Big 12? Is that also true if you the Mountain West conference?

You are so right, Evan. I am so proud for the Athletic Department staff. Many of us on this board have watched these dedicated people work very hard as they prepared for the first game, as well as the whole first season, in our beautiful new stadium. Thanks to all of the staff who have been so accomodating to me and the rest of the fans as we all anticipated the opening of Apogee Stadium. The AD staff should be feeling so proud of their efforts as they go to work on this Monday morning. GMG

Week 3 - Chapel Hill Recruits
tylermeangreen replied to tylermeangreen's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Sorry for forgetting to post the score - was trying to rush the info on the board as I was walking out the door headed for Denton. One thing I did not include because he is not a UNT commit - The CH quarterback (who I believe had thrown 13 touchdowns in the first two games) was injured in the first half and never returned to the game. Carthage has a really nice stadium, Gibbz - Interesting that the new new stadium has resulted in three consecutive Class 3-A Division 2 State Championships. May Apogee Stadium provide such good fortune for The Mean Green. -
Week 3 – Chapel Hill vs. Carthage – Players committed to UNT: Andrew Tucker – 1 carry; 7 yards – out remainder of the game with a hamstring injury Sir Calvin Wallace – Missed third game – was jogging on the sideline in street clothes prior to the game – I have heard that he will be cleared to be back in the lineup for next week’s game vs. Hallsville Rex Rollins – Was injured (I have heard it was a knee injury) in the first game of the season and did not play in this game, although he seemed to be walking without too much difficulty. Purely my guess – Wallace back next week; Rollins possible; Tucker probably doubtful since hamstring injuries require time. Go Mean Green

Road closings part of Apogee stadium traffic plan

I agree with you - and the comments about the pedestrian bridge the day before were well over the top! But negative people are everywhere - and Denton is certainly no different. It is so easy to hide behind a computer keyboard and type such hurtful, idiotic things - especially when one does not have to face the person or give their name. I am afraid that I am not as thick-skinned as RV and the rest of the targets of these people - I would have told them where to shove it a long time ago. -
Not me - I like it a lot!
-
I hope I am wrong......but it looks like it is going to be a long day for the Mean Green on the 10th. If there is a rabbit in the hat, McCarney needs to pull it out - fast! Sigh

Chapel Hill Recruits: Thursday Night Report
tylermeangreen replied to tylermeangreen's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Wallace was on the sideline last night in a flexible boot - left ankle. He was hurt in a scrimmage three weeks ago tonight. I was told by one of the coaches that he would be out 2 - 3 weeks - so it is possible he will be back this next week. I was also told by someone in a position to know that in their opinion Sir Calvin needs Dan McCarney's "influence" in order to toughen up. Andrew Tucker averaged almost 8 yards per carry - caught four passes averaging 24 yards a catch - and played on defense (which is supposedly where UNT is projecting him to play). CH plays at Carthage next Friday - Carthage won (I think for the 3rd time in a row) the 3-A Division 2 State Championship last year. CH beat them last year by about 25 - 30 points. As an aside - Whitehouse has a receiver named Jonathan Aldridge that is relatively tall, fast and can break tackles - he ate CH up last night. I would love to see the UNT coaches take a look at him. -

Final Score: 3-A Chapel Hill 59 4-A Whitehouse 49 Teams combined – 1,162 yards of offense UNT commits: Rex Rollins – did not play – injured Sir Calvin Wallace – did not play for 2nd week – ankle injury Andrew Tucker - rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns and also had four catches for 96 yards for Chapel Hill (2-0). -
I always love it when people have the solution for everyone else's problems, yet often cannot find solutions for their own situations. The problem I have is not earth-shattering; it is not one that I need a village to help me find a solution. I was just making small-talk like so many others on this board. Thank you for your advice, sir, but I will solve the problem in the way that works best for me and WITHOUT your unsolicited advice! Jeeze........

Cute..........

I was not at the CH game as I was in Denton yesterday but I went to the CH scrimmage a week ago Friday and another of our commits - DT Sir Calvin Wallace was injured - sprained ankle from what I am told. He did not play last night (or so my wife said - she went to the game) and my wife was told by one of the coaches - she teaches in CHISD - that he may miss 2 - 3 games. CH plays 4-A Whitehouse this Thursday evening - what a problem; do I go to CH game or watch the Mean Green on ESPN3??? Gotta lot of internal debatin' to do between now and Thursday.
-
I was in Denton yesterday and noticed the same thing - as we drove around the campus the number of students wearing Mean Green gear was astounding. We went to Voertmans as well and numerous students (and their parents) were buying lots of Mean Green gear. Times - They are a'changing.

Agreed, but his negativity disguised as objectivity is tough on the supporters of this program, too. -

I guess it would be nice for the rest of the readers of The Dallas Morning News to be exposed to a Mean Green article. But for the rest of us, it would likely be a Brett Vito/D-RC rerun showing up in the DMN. After all, Vito is essentially the DMN beat writer for North Texas sports. What is really too bad is that we don't get much in the way of coverage in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. It would really be nice - REALLY BE NICE - to get a perspective different from Vito's from at least one metroplex daily publication. GMG -
Anyone on here remember Bruno's pizza and spaghetti? I guess this was the first place I ate near campus when I arrived at NTSU back in 1970. The 1st location that I frequented was just beyond the campus side of Hickory around the corner from the Industrial Arts (?) building. The last two locations that I was aware of were behind Jack-In-The-Box on Hickory, and just off the TWU campus near their university store. While the pizza and spaghetti with meat sauce was great (spaghetti, sauce, bread and salad - $1.25 at lunch; $1.50 at dinner), their salads were even better - they would just throw their pizza toppings in the bowl of lettuce to create a super salad - I have had few salads in the 40 + years since to match Brunos' salad. I don't know when Brunos went out of business - the 80s maybe?

2011 Mean Green Player Adoption Thread
tylermeangreen replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
I know, tough choice down the line - but Laramie is special, both as a person and being the first CH player to commit to Dan McCarney and the Mean Green. For this year, I think Mason Y'Barbo will be a surprise - may well have some significant playing time from all I am hearing. As for CH games, nothing close to the metroplex. But here are some possibles as top games: CH @ Carthage - CH in 2010 3-A Div 1 final; Carthage won 2010 3-A Div 2 final The rest of CH's games are not against great opponents (Lindale game could be a good one - @ Lindale on Sept 23) although Athens game (@ Athens on Nov. 4) could very well be a good game, and for the district title. Athens went a couple of rounds - maybe 3 - into the playoffs last year. CH played Center in the playoffs last year (Center @ CH Sept. 30), but that was the 2nd time they had played in 2010 and CH blew them out both times. Hopefully in December (9th?) CH and Henderson will have a rematch at Jerry Jones Stadium for the 3-A Div 1 state championship (CH is currently ranked 1st, Henderson ranked 2nd in most polls). A long row to hoe, but it might well happen. Wow - hard to believe North Texas has three commits from CH. It is going to be an interesting CH season in that regard. GMG -
2011 Mean Green Player Adoption Thread

Torn between Laramie Lee from my big "city" of New Chapel Hill and Mason Y'Barbo from Sulphur Springs, my wife's home town. Guess I will go with Y'Barbo since I know he will be on the squad this year - Lee may end up red shirting. But tell you what, Laramie - when you are playing next year (and you will be) you will be my man, man. GMG -
damn fine response - thanks!!!

DAMN! Isn't there ANYTHING associated with this athletic department that everyone will like???
