Tidbits from Mac Coaches Show Tonight
tylermeangreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I am sure that we can all agree that it is the friendship with the father, along with the son's lack of success in games, that is giving this question related to the second-string QB life. But it is the role of the former rather than the latter which is the most nebulous. -
As of right now, "2011 College Football TV Schedule" is showing the game as being shown on sunbelt network........but also on ESPN 3.

Heckling behind the visitor bench.
tylermeangreen replied to KellenJemeyson's topic in Mean Green Football
Easy solution - Understand the meaning of "class" and show it! "Class" does not mean the students cannot heckle - or the old folks, either - just be creative, and do it in a "classy" manner. Is graffiti classy? Surprisingly, it can be (as can heckling - the Rice University MOB has been creatively classy hecklers for years!). As an examplle, one year the Mean Green played at the University of Kansas. Quite a few of us rode together on an Amtrak train to Lawrence, Kansas (had our own coach; Amtrak stopped to pick us up at Sanger). After the game, as we waited for the train home to come through Lawrence, several of us killed time at a jazz joint in downtown Lawrence - Paul Gray's Jazz Place. The venue was obviously frequented by both KU students and professors. The restrooms were covered in graffiti - but not the trashy graffiti one would expect in a restroom; there was none to be found; no phone numbers to call. But what was written on the various walls of the restrooms was profound, highly intellectual, very creative graffiti - but it was both classy and classic. Hecklers - get creative - drop the mf'ing and all of the other sleazy language. One poster said that he did not use the trashy language and yet was able to be an effective heckler and enjoyed doing so. Another is very proud of his 50-yard line location because he can continously hurl f-bombs at the players, staff, and the female trainers. Classy! Whatever you do reflects upon you and your university - but if you feel you are intellectually and creatively limited - and you think the only way you can be an effective heckler is by using trashy language....... carry on. -
Thank you for your permission - now that I have it, I may just haul my 64-year old butt out there at some point and do that very thing.

And, in reference to your chants in another thread, yelling f'bombs is is not "moronic and.....belittling to our program" - but rushing the field is? Gimme a break!
-
I have myself heard Coach McCarney say that he is all for letting the students come onto the field and celebrate a win with the players - Good Lord, find something else to gripe about!

Chapel Hill 51 – Rusk 7 UNT commits: Sir Calvin Wallace – played with great enthusiasm; power rushed and disrupted the offense to a great degree. I do not have specifics in terms of sacks for Sir Calvin, but I noticed him making several tackles But Here is what the CH defense did as a whole and Sir Calvin was in the middle of much of this: Played 12 defensive series and forced eleven three-and-outs; held Rusk out of the end zone (only Rusk TD came on a run-back of the opening kickoff – ironic, 12 seconds elapsed off of the game clock, the same time as elapsed on UL-M’s kickoff runback vs. Mean Green); and held Rusk to 98 total yards offense and three first downs. Andrew Tucker – missed his third game in a row due to a hamstring and ankle problem. He could have played, but the decision was made to hold him out of this game (and CH does not play next week) before bringing Andrew and other injured starters back (including the starting QB) to play Athens a week from Friday – with the playoffs beginning the following weekend. Rex Rollins – Let me begin this by again reminding you that Dan McCarney is projecting this running back as a defensive back for the Mean Green. But I hope this guy is given at least a cursory look at running back in next fall’s Mean Green training camp practices. For those of you with a bit of age on you, Rex Rollins reminds me so much of a combination of Eric Dickerson and Duane Thomas – but with an extra dose of Thomas. This guy has power and speed, but he is so smooth that he glides – he does a great job of setting up blockers and also sets up the tacklers in such a way that they are “tackling air” as he effortlessly changes directions. Yes, I know UNT has a stable of running backs, including at least two highly-touted redshirts – but just sayin’. Oh, Rollins had an off-night for him (I think I said a couple of weeks ago that he was averaging about 12 yards a carry) carrying the ball 13 times for 83 yards and averaging only 6 + yards-per-carry. He also scored on a 37-yard TD.

Jerry Moore is still the coach........

Wow! Six games into the man's tenure as Head Football Coach and the negativity implied in your statement just flat blows me away! What exactly is it that you want as immediate proof? Regardless, you should understand that any so-called proof probably IS NOT coming this season. Are you implying that without proof-in-evidence this season that this coach is a bust? Sorry - I just don't understand (and I bet I am not alone here) what it is you are looking for at this point in Dan McCarney's first year as the Head Football Coach at this institution. I have read other postings where you have blamed Todd Dodge for the state of the program. If that is true, you are now holding Dan McCarney responsible for taking what you feel are Todd Dodge's all-encompassing mistakes and immediately turning this program around? I am not necessarily trying to be critical of what you have said, I just don't understand what you are trying to say. But regardless, your continuing negativity is mystifying to this old alum.

Sir, in your original statement you were making the accusation that the ENTIRETY of the offensive problems was at the feet of the o-line. The norm is that an accusation of such magnitude is backed up with "facts" to support the accusation. Until your most recent post, you chose not to do so (and even those statements were so general as to be suspect). I called you on it - and finally your responded with more than 5 - 7 words of utter BS. Is the o-line part of the reason that the offense struggles? Certainly. Are they THE SINGLE CAUSE of the offense struggling? NO! Again, were you at the game? If you were then you SHOULD know that your accusation is erroneous. But I will back off - the last thing this program needs is each of us turning against our own. GMG

A less than STERLING reply - why am I not surprised? Oh - were you at the game? If you were then you should have seen that the offensive problems went FAR, FAR BEYOND the o-line. But I guess it would be hard to provide an overall analysis of the offense within in your all-to-usual 5 - 7 word sentence postings. Just a point to be learned: Smart-assed quips seldom provide for quality analysis! To blame the o-line for the ENTIRETY of the ineffectiveness of the offense is, as I said and without reservation, flat wrong.

Recruit Results for Friday 14 Oct.
tylermeangreen replied to All About UNT's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Nope - headed for Cajun country - will report any behind-the-scenes stats I am able to pick up over the next few days. Tucker must be hurt - held out of last game as well. I will see what I can find out about his status. -
That, sir, is just flat wrong!
-
Having been at the game, with no preconceived opinion prior to seeing LaLa play in that game, I would say yes - with the exception of their QB and punter, their talent was MUCH better!
-
Thanks very much for the information.

OK - thanks for the reply.

Hey CajunsOwnYou: Got any suggestions for where to park a single time (central spot) that would allow a mid-day visit to the festival; tailgating and game; and then a walk downtown after the game? With the festival and your homecoming/game parking will surely be at a premium. We are arriving LaLa just before Noon Saturday. Thanks for any help you can give us.

I am hoping that Mac will really light a "far" under this kid. I am told that he likes to be addressed as "Sir" and not as "Sir Calvin" - but I gotta feelin' that will change real fast once his Mean Green teammates (and coaches) spend a little time with him in the weight room and on the field - GrandGreen, that is one area where going from 3-A to Div 1 can tend to take a little starch out of one's perception of one's self. Either that perception will change or he will be such a "bad ass" that he will be called anything he wants to be called........and I hope it is the latter! GMG

Great - thanks for the information. I love listening to Cajun music, and watching the musicians perform it.

I have just come across Sir Calvin Wallace's stats for the CH game against Bullard last Friday night. Given the Mean Green's need for defensive linemen, this is encouraging: * he had nine tackles and four of them were for losses * he had one sack * he had a quarterback knockdown (and laid his 300 + cuddly pounds on the QB's body) * he had four QB pressures This is not a bad night given that Sir Calvin sat out the first half of the season with an ankle injury. Sounds great - will there be music on stages downtown that Saturday evening, or just in the clubs? Lookin' forward to visiting with all of you folks - been a long time since I have been to LaLa.......

Tailgating Invitation From The Krewe de Chew!
tylermeangreen replied to CajunDave1's topic in Mean Green Football
Since I teach economics, and economists are not known for being overly humorous, please let me add this not-overly-humorous tale as my lame contribution to the great Cajun humor: The Local Economy’s Circular Flow It's a slow day in Mamou, Louisiana. The sun is beating down, and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit. On this particular day a traveling Shreveport salesman is driving through town. He stops at the Hotel Couzan and lays a $100 bill on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one in which to spend the night. As soon as the man walks upstairs, Bosco, the owner, grabs the bill and runs next door to pay his debt to Boudreaux the butcher. Boudreaux takes the $100 and runs down the street to retire his debt to Trosclair the pig farmer. Trosclair takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill at T-Boy's Farmers Co-op, the local supplier of feed and fuel. T-Boy at the Farmer's Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local lady-of-the-evening, Clarise, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer her "services" on credit. Clarise rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill with Bosco, the hotel owner. Bosco then places the $100 back on the counter so the traveling salesman will not suspect anything. At that moment the salesman comes down the stairs, picks up the $100 bill, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money, and leaves town. No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now out of debt and now looks to the future with a lot more optimism. Hey Kram, maybe this is the ultimate solution to our national debt! -
Mason Y'Barbo did his usual yeoman job at left guard - this guy is a red-shirt freshman so I am looking for great things from him the next three years (along with the rest of this young offensive line). Good job, Mason!

That is stating the obvious, and I appreciate your opinion. I am just passing on what I see. I saw Laramie Lee last year and thought he could play for North Texas - and alerted the staff when I saw he had commited to Wyoming - he was too good to be playing in Wyoming or UTSA when we had so many holes to fill. I am looking at several kids on the CH team that I think will be successful in college ball. Personal opinion - I think two of the three CH commits have a real chance to succeed at this level, and I hope I am wrong and all three commits are wildly successful at North Texas. Yes, 3-A players can be suspect when it comes to their being successful in college football - but in my amateur opinion, some of these CH players will be very successful. But we shall see - I am promoting nothing; my only real interest is North Texas.
