tylermeangreen replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I have a feeling that there are a few more "stealth" recruits that are in the 2012 recruiting class. -
I know that some of you are interested in Sir Calvin Wallace given UNT’s need at defensive tackle. There was an article in the local paper last week that I just now got around to reading. The article was on Sir Calvin, along with the other Chapel Hill defensive tackle from last year’s team – now playing defensive end – Colton Moorehead, who was first-team all-state as a DT in 2010. Some tidbits from the article (this article was published prior to last week’s game vs. Navasota so the stats would need to be updated – Sir Calvin and Colton both had great games): • Moorehead leads the team in sacks – six • Moorehead has 10 tackles for a loss • Moorehead is 6’3”, 255 lbs • Wallace is known around Chapel Hill as “Z-ro” because he looks like the Houston rapper • Wallace right now is 6’2”, 292 lbs • Head Coach Thomas Sitton’s quote about Sir Calvin “He’s one of the more athletic big kids I have ever been around. He runs well, changes direction well. He’s hard to block, and he does a good job of getting penetration and making plays.” • Wallace has 54 tackles, eight for a loss, and three sacks • Wallace missed the first four games of the season • A Wallace quote “I don’t mind being double-teamed. If I get double-teamed, Moorehead can get the pressure and get a sack or a linebacker could come in and make a big play. As long as it’s helping the team, it doesn’t bother me.” As I have said before, I know it is not feasible for UNT to take another CH player. But I have no doubt that in prior years Moorehead would have been a big “get” for UNT. He has a huge upside and is a big team-leader. GMG

I do admire positive people!
-
Unfortunately, one or two on this board are supportive of just such a path for UNT.
-
I have to admit that I am seeing things from Sir Calvin that now help me understand why UNT offered him - this guy has a lot of upside, and as I have said a couple of times before, there are a lot of folks over here behind the pine curtain that are looking forward to seeing Dan McCarney light this guy up. If it happens, it is going to be fun - and we will have one less "need"! But in my untrained opinion, it may be to everyone's benefit if Sir Calvin is red-shirted.

Yes, CH beat Carthage at mid-season. In that game the CH QB suffered a broken ankle, and Tucker had his first sprained ankle - both in the first half. But CH hung in there and won 21-20 breaking Carthage's long home winning streak. Carthage has won 3-A Division II state championship the last three years. They have had a heckuva run. CH blew out West Columbia last year (WC was undefeated last year when CH played them in the semi-finals) - but I have to be honest.......CH has got to tighten up the pass defense and get the QB back to the level he played prior to getting hurt against Carthage if they are to return to the state championship game. However, the other side of it is that this year they are not beating everyone in the playoffs by 40 or so points like last year. They have had to handle adversity the last two weeks and find a way to win - and that has to give them confidence the rest of the way. My big hope is that our three UNT commits look great for as long as the team is successful. To this point they are far more than holding their own against some pretty strong competition. GMG

Chapel Hill 56 Navasota 46 Stats: CH 30 first downs; Navasota 11 CH Rushing 66/424; Navasota 14/-12 CH Passing 169; Navasota 274 UNT commits: Andrew Tucker 10/65, 1 TD injured in 2nd quarter appeared to be sprained ankle, but was jogging on the sidelines the entire 2nd half. Rex Rollins 16/99, 1 TD Sir Calvin Wallace Look at the rushing stats above for Navasota Sir Calvin played a great game created several hurries; had 2 3 sacks that I remember; really showed up when CH needed stops late in the game; and is finally showing up as a real emotional leader of the defense. CH had a great night carrying the ball; 7 different ball carriers. The score was as close as it was because CH offense gave up 3 touchdowns 2 interception returns and one fumble return. All eight CH TDs came via the offense. Coming up - Rematch of last years semifinal game: CH (13 0) vs. West Columbia (13 0) at Stephen F. Austin Stadium, Nacogdoches; 7:30 Friday.

My girlfirend of the day wondered why all of a sudden I became interested in THE WEATHER on television news. It did not take her long to figure it out! It was worth seeing Texas wiped off the map with Jocelyn turned sideways!!!

Tyler Chapel Hill vs. La Vega
tylermeangreen replied to All About UNT's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Yep - helluva game and CH almost had their butts handed to them. That in itself is not a bad thing - last year CH blew through the playoffs with huge numbers until they met Henderson in the state championship game - then they hit a little adversity and could not handle it. The game last night reminded me A LOT of the Henderson game last year - except this time this team found a way to win. I hope that helps them the rest of the way. Waco La Vega is a very good team; it was a battle of two 11 - 0 teams that fought hard. La Vega had a 4th and about 6 inches with just over a minute in the game, tied 20 - 20, and ole Sir Calvin and the rest of that defensive line stuffed them - I did not think they could do it. La Vega had successfully run wide on CH all night and I thought that was what they would do in this case (btw, there is another CH defensive lineman that deserves a good look by D-1 teams.....Colton Moorehead, DT/DE. This kid has a tremendous upside in my humble untrained opinion). Then, with just over a minute left and 3rd and whatever, 3 or 4 yards (La Vega called time out following first and second down with hopes of CH punting again out of the end zone - had punted once earlier out of the end zone for only 15 yards, so La Vega had big hopes of a short field), Tucker took the ball toward the left guard, then headed wide and went down the left sideline for, paper says, 93 yards.......and he starting cramping up at the 10 and was tackled as he fell into the end zone. Did I say "helluva game"? Final stats on the two CH running backs committed to UNT: Andrew Tucker - 21 carries for 164 yards - an almost 8-yard average; a 1-yard TD and the 93-Yard TD. He also caught the ball twice for 72 yards receiving. Rex Rollins - 3 carries for 8-yards. There is something going on with Rollins - played very little and that is unusual although it has happened for the 2nd week in a row. I don't know if he has an undisclosed injury or has chapped the coach or what - I will see what I can find out during the week. As for Sir Calvin Wallace - he and the rest of the CH line were stout - La Vega ran wide a lot, but not much yardage up the middle. Sir Calvin was a beast......he is starting to step up. My UNT hope-meter for this kid has gone up a lot over the past two games. Oh - the kid from Corsicana - somebody at UNT is dropping the ball - yeah, I know, booooooo - if they have not already taken a look at this kid. This is from the Corsicana paper this morning: "Yes, tailback Cameron Washington was at it again, rushing for a modern day playoff-record (for CHS) 322 yards on 39 carries, smashing his record from last week. He had four more touchdowns, giving him a school record 37 for the season. He passed Ketric Sanford’s tremendous senior year of 2,616 yards in 1995 for the second best single-season game in the modern era, doing it in the same number of games — 12. Washington has 2,663 yards now this season and needs 99 to break Sanford’s 1994 record of 2,761 yards in a season. Washington has rushed for more than 300 yards in consecutive playoff games, the first to do it once for Corsicana in the modern era, and now the first two do it twice." GMG- 1 reply

LOVE IT!!! -
Thanks for the response. I am really not trying to toot CH's horn by posting these updates - but this is a team with 30 seniors out of its' 38 or so players. They were in the state championship game last year, and unless they stumble badly they will be in the championship game this year. All three of the UNT recruits have missed 3 - 4 games this year; in addition the star QB went down with a broken ankle in the first half of the Carthage game along with Tucker; and the coaches moved players around and CH continued being equally productive (note the two closest games of the season were back-to-back Carthage and Hallsville, both playoff teams - but once the backup QB settled in the remaining CH games were not close. The starting QB came back for the final game of the regular season). Just FYI - I have no personal tie to CH other than the fact that my wife teaches math in the CH middle school - so I have no tie to any of our commits. The CH team was impressive last year, and we got Lairamie Lee from that team. Three of this team's seniors have committed to UNT and, honestly, in past years there are at least 2 - 3 more on the team that UNT would have been elated to recruit. There are a lot of folks here in the CH area, including at least a couple of coaches, that are looking forward to seeing what these young men can do once Dan McCarney has them on the UNT campus - and that is especially true for Sir Calvin Wallace, the 300 pound defensive tackle. BTW, Jasper had a running back that rang up 240 yards or so on this CH defense - he will be a real "get" for some college or university. GMG

I remember asking you back when what business you are in - and I don't seem to remember whether you provided an answer or not. Care to clarify? Again, the reason I ask is that I have learned in my rather lengthy life that people that are willing to flat-out cheat in one area of their lives are also willing to cheat in most/all areas of their lives. Therefore, to be honest, I have no interest in EVER buying a product/service that you produce/sell. Given that you are so proud and forthright about your belief in the necessity to cheat in order to get ahead in life and not just in college sports I would certainly think that you would be equally forthright about how you make your living for the sake of those of us that choose NOT to spend our earnings with someone who so openly advocates cheating in life in order to get ahead. -

Lame response! Look at my posting - I don’t believe I said anything about the normal screw-ups that occur within every human activity, including college athletic departments. Those are to be expected and understandable – human beings unintentionally make mistakes. Note that I DID say “major violations”, not routine mistakes or “stain”. Your response in the earlier thread regarding Boise State’s problems essentially said that you are willing to have UNT athletics engage in major violations if that is what it takes to make UNT athletics relevant. That, sir, is an entirely different situation than what you have alluded to above. -

And yet we have a couple of posters on this board that are willing to have UNT engage in major violations just so we can become relevant in college sports? If you are wondering about the basis for this statement, see the thread on the Boise State investigation that was on the board a month or so ago. -

tylermeangreen replied to SilverEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I think I remember that we have a UNT Athletic Department SID who told us, on this board, that he would post on gmg.com and clear up any questions/misinformation we might have related to the UNT Athletic Department and its functions. Unfortunately, I don't remember this person being on this board doing what he said he was going to do. Our Athletic Director did say, at one point during the construction of the stadium, that there would be multiple high school playoff games at the new stadium. This seems like a perfect opportunity for the SID to jump in and give us some factual information. -

Bravo!!! The man's arrogance is replusive.......when he feels he has been proven right, mistaken or not and even weeks after the fact, he will make sure that we know that he so prognosticated. Given the arrogance, he lost credibility with me long ago.
