LOL - if I remember right ole Kram1 assigned the areas where y'all (sorry Stormchaser) were to go...........and thereby was able to keep Hooters for himself. Did you linger? Way to go Kram - I knew you were a "right" smart feller and this proves it!

And others in the south pronounce it "ain't". Some will also pronounce the insect spelled a-n-t as an "ain't". "Ain't" serves many purposes down here!

"In the police report, Nwabuike admitted that, “he did not pay the suspect for the acts that she performed” and left the woman in the home alone while the players attended the banquet." Good Gawd Almighty, this guy ain't too bright. I have no idea what position he plays but I sure hope he is an SMU quarterback! From home "quickie" to SMU banquet "quiche" - ah, life is good on the hilltop.
-
Me, too - three of us attending.......and hopefully a little UNT/KSU football watchin', too!

I would, too, 'cept this is the south..........

Seems that is what Michigan fans were saying a few years ago when ole Appalachian State and Jerry Moore rolled into town.

Football wins can help college's academic reputation
tylermeangreen replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It is not so much the "standards" that change but the perception that the general public has of a university's academics as a result of a strong athletic program. Not defending such - just suggesting that is what is. -
I was driving to Minneapolis today - stopped at two Kum & Go's in Iowa. I was surprised to find the clerks in both stores in starched white shirts and ties.

I hope not given that fall officially begins on September 22.

Uh, when was that?

Further CUSA Expansion On Hold 12-15 Months ?
tylermeangreen replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I would like to see both of them return to C-USA, and it would probably make financial sense for all parties - but can you really, even in your most intoxicated state, see SMU moving back "down" to C-USA? The University of Houston I can see - but not SMU. -
Mean Green Football Camp at Chapel Hill
tylermeangreen replied to tylermeangreen's topic in Mean Green Football
One more thing I remembered from yesterday: I watched Justin Gaines (I am almost sure it was him although I have not met him) work with the DBs yesterday at the football camp. The guy is impressive - he was very intense in teaching technique to the high school DBs - and he was doing a great job of pointing out strengths and weaknesses during 7-on-7. When a good DB play was made he was vocal; high-fiving; and doing the "in the air body-bump" (or whatever the newest celebration fad is called) with the players. They appeared to be loving the enthusiasm of the guy. We may have us a good'un with this guy. GMG -
I just got home from the East Texas UNT football camp at Chapel Hill. There was one QB that stood out above the rest - about 6'1" - 6'3" or so; hard to tell from the stands. Not stocky but had meat on his bones and a helluva arm. His passes were accurate; could go deep with ease; and the ball has some mustard on it, especially on the out patterns - he was clearly the best out there, and Canales was very interested in him. He hung on to him after the camp was over and spent quite a bit of time talking to him; and then making sure that McCarney met him and offered encouraging words. I think this guy "went on their list" along with the many other QBs they have pegged on their list from around the state. As for the rest of the crowd of players (50 - 52 in my last count) the coaches were interested in the Tyler Lee kicker/punter - plays on the soccer team (according to t-shirt) and punts and kicks. He was kicking field goals from 55 yards out with plenty of room to spare - high elevation by what would have been the line of scrimmage (hard to block, and God knows UNT has had its share of problems with blocked punts over the past 5 – 6 years); his punts were high with good hang time (4 - 5 seconds my guess) - averaged punts of about 45 yards. There were a few receivers and DB's with OUTSTANDING speed – in fact blow-away speed and quickness. A couple of the DB’s had great coverage in seven-on-seven, and three or four receivers combined speed/quickness with very good ball-catching ability. Given what little I profess to know, I would have on the spot offered 3 - 4 of the guys attending the camp - don't know, of course, what McCarney will do. McCarney is a master in so many areas. He was greeting not only the high school coaches in attendance, he was also greeting and hugging the “water crew” while remembering their efforts from last year; he also remembered the CH trainer from last year’s camp at CH and spent time visiting with her. After play was over McCarney gathered the participants around him and emphasized the players being coachable for their high school coaches; he emphasized character; he told them that he had enough problems without having problem players……so he would not recruit such players, and that few other university coaches would either. He spelled out in precise terms what he expects from his players – representing their families, high schools, and UNT well in everything they do. He told them that missing class was not an option and he mentioned the high GPAs that some of the current players have earned. One other difference from last year – temp was in the 80s instead of the 100+ of last year. GMG

aw jeez!

Not surprising - but CH has sent four players (1 gray shirt) to UNT over the past two years. One is projected to start on the Mean Green defense this year. The other three are incoming freshmen and obviously the jury is out on them - but if two or three of the four CH recruits make significant contributions to future UNT teams, then CH will be proud - and vindicated, too, as some on this board have criticized UNT/McCarney for taking four players from the same 3-A school........and not without some justification.
-
I agree - it should be interesting to see how this camp is different from last year's at CH. I will be in attendance so if I see anything significantly different I will pass the information along. I would be surprised if any CH players are offered (state championship team from last year had 30+ seniors on a 40 + squad) but hopefully we can tap into upcoming seniors from other schools in East Texas. UNT has not placed a priority on East Texas kids in the recent past although we have managed to sign a few; I know there are coaches and players here in East Texas that very much hope that attitude has changed.

Good point, Deep. I had not thought of that comment in that way. My comments below are not directed in any way toward you. When I was not a "Gramps" (when I was in my early-to-mid-30s) my wife and I debated extensively giving the grand sum of $1,000 a year to the athletic department at NTSU because we loved the university and the athletic potential that Hayden Fry had magically flamed. But honestly we could not afford to contribute 1/9th of my paycheck and so, rationally, we instead contributed a minimal amount of money. It was the right decision, and it was a good decision for our situation in life at the time. So from my time at NTSU (1970s) until two years ago we, along with the rest of the football fans of our university, attended football games at a stadium that represented the sacrifices of our university's fans back in 1952 who were old enough, and established enough, to be able to significantly contribute to the construction of Fouts Field. Fast forward to 2010- 2011: WE are now called "Gramps" by someone on this board from a later generation (sarcasm or not, a totally unappreciated comment) who has halfway suggested that the modern era should be this board's focus. Well Sir, let me remind you of this fact: Along with the university students who voted for the student fee, Apogee Stadium EXISTS TODAY because of the folks on this board who you are calling "Gramps"; a group of posters who generally want nothing more than to sit in a comfortable football stadium; to be able to discuss and enjoy the memories of their younger days at NTSU/UNT; to work for a wonderful future for UNT athletics and academics; AND to put their considerable financial assets where THEIR mouth's are...... Forty years ago I could not justify giving $1,000 a year to the NTSU Athletic Department! TODAY I, and many of the other "Gramps" on this board - and other "Gramps" who have never accessed GMG.COM - have given, and are giving, many many times over $1,000 a year for the construction of Apogee Stadium and the many other athletic and academic needs of this university - and we will continue to do so on a yearly basis. Let me remind you of one more thing: We have spent the past 40 + years in old Fouts Field. Many of us have helped construct a stadium that maybe, just maybe, we will be able to enjoy for another 10 years or so before we become infirmed or simply die. YOU, on the other hand, because of the generosity of the students and the "Gramps" both on and off this board, are going to be able to enjoy Apogee Stadium for decades. It seems to me that your response regarding our enjoyment via board postings in re-living the NTSU/UNT glory days (and athletes) of our past were way over-board. It would seem to me that you would respect the years of service and devotion given to NTSU/UNT by these many people on this board in the same way that WE respect the younger generations on this board that are today providing service and devotion to our university - even though they may be too young to financially contribute at a high level today, and even though they tend to make what we feel are inane comments on the GMG board. But these "Gramps" are contributing to your future enjoyment with the expectation that ten-to-thirty years down the road you will be there to replace our monetary and service contributions for the sake of future generations who will be singing "Glory to the Green". You, sir, respect our past and we will respect your future. Gramps

Well, this annual topic consumed six days of deadtime between spring football and when fall practice begins - not bad! At least the letters C-USA showing up here-and-there has eased the inherent boredom as the topic is debated once again.
