92.5 Lone Star
Boomer23 replied to NT91's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I already gave up on radio. Thats why I just make cd's. I only ever listened to the Eagle and KZPS. When the Bone came along they said they didn't play what KZPS played even though they did. -
I would like to announce that last night I, Michael Maher, was elected the new President of Talons. I have also taken over as General of Cannon Crew. I would like to express that I have many plans to change the organization and return it to the great status it once had. Small things such as chalking the sidewalks will return as well as some other changes that I will not yet announce. I would also like all Alumni to know how much I appreciate each of them, for if it was not for them there would be no current organization or even a university. Look forward to more interaction between the Talons of new and those of old. Spread the word to the other former Talons to look for change and be ready to be contacted. This is just the beginning. The future success of the organization lies not only on my shoulders but on those shoulders of my current members as well as the alumni. I look forward to a successful future not only for Talons but for the University of North Texas. Thank You. Michael Philip Maher Talons President mpmaher529@hotmail.com

The Talons continue the Boom-a-lacka chant as a rally chant for the Talons. It has become our battle cry. After we light the tower the last thing we do is "Boom-a-lacka Boom-a-lacka Bow Wow Wow Ching-a-lacka Ching-a-lacka Chow Chow Chow Boom-a-lacka Ching-a-lacka Who Are We? We are the Talons of UNT" We also use it in parades and other university events.
-
I am involved with making those decisions. I came to the board to get opinions. We don't want to force chants that no one wants to participate it, we want to create an atmosphere that everyone can be a part of.
-
We need new chants so that we can get our stadium to yell in unison and finally show the visiting team what North Texas is all about, kicking ace. I can also guarantee if we get a good chant together that it will surpass the first 3 rows. I do understand how North - Texas gets annoying, it's because there is no end. We also need to put a definitive end to that chant, such as after 5 times we all yell FIGHT! It will also be great in the long run to hear a unison chat on tv. Finally show everyone at home that UNT is no friendly place to play, we can be just as loud as any of the bigger schools.
-
What do you all think about this as a new chant? We can have the cheerleaders rolling their pom poms and we all chant Meeeeeeeeeeean and then they put up their arms or talons and G-R-E-E-N GREEN! So all at once we would have a Meeeeeeeean G-R-E-E-N GREEN! or EAGLES! It's something simple and everyone can do it in unison. Feedback?
-
I'll get one for my car the Model A and the Tug
-
Eagles don't CAW, they aren't crows. It would be nice if we did make a response though. something for after kickoffs Annoucer: TAAAAALONS OUT! Fans: "Ooooooohhhhhhhhh (reciever gets ball) NORTH TEXAS FIGHT!" or "Nnnoooooooooooooooo (reciever gets ball) rth TEXAS FIGHT!"
-
I'll be there with Boomer the Model A and the Tug. Dodge wants it to be like a regular season game and I am glad to help out.
-
From my understanding, which I hear from multiple sources, The real helmet will...........(drum roll).............are you ready? The helmet will be white. There will be a Green stripe down the middle with two black stripes on each side of that. As for the logo, the SOW will not be on the helmet. It is merely going to have the "North Texas" branding on each side. There you have it. Let the next helmet thread commence.

The plans aren't exclusive, nothing is finalized so there is no point in sharing useless information. -
Unt Traditions/spirit Committee (steps To Success)
Boomer23 replied to rockguitarist4life's topic in Mean Green Football
It was my call to invite FFR. The man simply embodies what it is to be Mean Green. We want to find out what made him the man he is that way we can learn to make more students experience what he had. I am not saying that he is the only alumnus out there like that, but he is one of the ones that stands out. This was our second meeting as a committee. Our first meeting was merely to decide whether or not the university needed this committee. We all agreed it did and therefore we invited these people to help us figure out changes that needed to be made. As for creating a subcommittee that is out of the question for now. We can't get anything done if we merely increase the size of the committee. It is impossible to please everyone. All we want is to help preserve our history so that we may have a much better future. We have some plans at the moment, but I won't reveal any of that yet. I will gladly fill you in as things go along though. Michael Maher -Talons -Proud Member of the Mean Green Family -
JJ turned down the first pitch from my understanding. I am expecting Dodge to do it.

From DMN Slain officer on mind of show award nominee Dallas: National honor given new purpose 12:00 AM CDT on Thursday, March 29, 2007 By JENNI BEAUCHAMP / The Dallas Morning News jbeauchamp@dallasnews.com When Dallas police Senior Cpl. Armando Dominguez was nominated for the America's Most Wanted All-Star Award two weeks ago, he thought he might use the money to pay off a loan if he won. But priorities change. Last week, Cpl. Dominguez lost a friend and co-worker. Dallas police Senior Cpl. Mark Nix, who was fatally shot in the line of duty last week, was buried Wednesday. Now the nomination has a new purpose, Cpl. Dominguez said. "It is just so weird because Nix and I were talking about it after [going to the] jail the Wednesday before he was killed, and now we have basically made this [nomination] in his memory." Cpl. Dominguez, 33, who works on the burglary task force with the southwest division, was nominated for the television show's award because of his continued dedication to police work. He says he couldn't imagine doing any other kind of work. He was a 13-year-old Police Explorer and later joined the Police Department at age 23 after completing the police academy. "I love my job. I work 16 hours a day, and the only thing that bothers me sometimes is not seeing my kids, but I always tell people its like being in the front row at a three-ring circus," said the 10-year veteran. Cpl. Dominguez says he was nominated for the award because he's always on watch. "I was in a cast because I had broken my foot, and I was chasing a burglar in my truck. I always carry my [police] radio because it's quicker than 911," he said. "This is a totally different race now. I told [Nix] that if we win this, we will have a huge party and a band, and that's why we have kind of made this in his honor. I want to dedicate this whole thing to him." Cpl. Dominguez says he plans to give a partial donation to the Assist the Officer Foundation, which helps the families of officers who are injured or killed in the line of duty. To vote for Cpl. Dominguez, visit www.amw.com. The contest tallies a daily vote through April 15. The 2007 winner will receive $10,000 and a weekend at the NASCAR Nextel Cup on May 19 in Charlotte, N.C. "It is a big honor, and especially to be able to go down there and dedicate it to him," said Cpl. Dominguez.

Greetings Everyone. I know this is not related to football but we don't have a GoMeanGreen police forum. My cousin, Armando Dominguez, is a Dallas Police Senior Corporal who was recently nominated as an America'a Most Wanted All-Star. I know how much we all love going to websites and voting and I ask of you to vote for him. http://www.amw.com/allstar/2007/gallery.cfm Thank You

Word will spread throughout campus. I am already working with Talons to start posting flyers and chalking up the side walks like we used to.

Boomer is obviously my favorite. There is nothing like driving down the road with Boomer in tow and then unloading it and firing. It's an experience few get to have. I also love game days, waking up early and getting to Fouts well before any tailgaters to work on the Model A and the Tug. Driving those cars just make you feel good and proud to be Mean Green I am part of the Traditions Committee. It was decided this semester to determine our true traditions and make sure to spread the word and to maintain them for future generations. We will be meeting with many people such as FFR to get more feedback and ideas in April. I'll be sure to give an update later on and ask for more suggestions.

The main reasoning was to get the student section behind the home team and get the team pumped. This was discussed before the beginning of the season and it was then decided to go through with it. In my opinion it worked very well. Many of the students that repeatedly came to the games formed bonds with many of the players, and the players themselves have told me multiple times that is was great to hear the fans cheering. It really got them pumped. They also loved hearing our attempts to have players on the bench get some game time such as Ruffin and Mangrum. The team will most likely remain on the same side. The women however are still on the other side, maybe they should move them too and see if they can get the ball rolling.
-
That was not Pit Crew, it was people behind us. We told them to stop considering it was a little early into the game to start that chant, plus chanting that in the beginning of the game is never the best way to go considering we then got our butts kicked in the second half.
-
I don't see how you can be intimidated about coming close to the court and getting loud and rowdy just because Talons is down there. They are fans just like everyone else. In fact I was the Talons representative in the revival of the Pit Crew. I met with the Athletics department and the SGA members and together we wanted to create a more inviting atmosphere to get more people to come to the games and sit with us and go crazy. This years student section obviously had a greater impact than last years. Last year I and the other Talons along a few hardcore fans were the only ones who sat in the student section. We brought back pit crew and brought in more and more people. In the first couple games with the Pit Crew things started getting a little more rowdy but not to the point where the stadium could hear us. It took leaders from SGA and Talons to get people to come down and get crazy, hence the Pit Crew purchased wigs and I myself donned the 1970s basketball uniform short shorts and all. From then on people began to fill in the seats. There is no reason for anyone to be afraid of going crazy alongside the other crazy people. The point is we all go crazy in support for the team.

No matter what, anything will look better than Dickey's last minute black uniform
