Here is why you leave Benford to finish off the season...
Army of Dad replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Even if they had no "extra" cash to pay a single year Benford buyout (and think of how sad that is) they could have sold an extra guarantee game or two and sacrificed a couple of the patsies Benford scheduled in a vain attempt to pad his W-L record to make up the difference. As a season ticket holder I'd have gladly made that trade. -

"What do you mean we can't have popcorn sushi?" RV will, of course invest more money into a Pizza Hut in Hattiesburg. -

Freaky Fast sushi Try the sweater vest taste test Come for the sushi, but stay for our customer service His big customers will laud his vision to sell alcohol He will be afraid to bring in the big fish because we won't want to be embarrassed in his own restaurant His social media manager will insult the customers Do you think he will have any business partners? I know of a couple of guys that got a lot of money over the last 5 years or so and they aren't going to be working this summer... -

It's not just a combs and Lawson player though. He also brought in PJ Hardwick, GWP, Deandre Harris, and a series of quick fix attempts that alsmot always failed. Did he recruit some nice players? Yes, but I think his overall recruiting and roster management aren't above average. Additionally, Benford shouldn't be compared to JJ's early years, but his later ones. We weren't anywhere near the same place as a program when JJ left as when he arrived. -

How many more threads until he's gone? I have no idea, but since GMG is great at rehashing everything that's happened to UNT for the last 40 years I think we are in for a good deal more threads, even after he's gone. Recruiting: I just don't think the roster, as it's currently constructed and developed prior to the start of the season, that even with good coaching and leadership the team wouldn't be better than middle of the pack in conference. I think Benford's coaching drives the talent down to its current spot in the standings. -

1. By waiting as long as UNT has there will be nothing to hold him to anything. He will have received all pay he's entitled to. I'll also disagree that he's a "good recruiter". Good implies that he's above average, I don't think he built a better than average CUSA level roster. Obviously he can't coach at more than bottom third of conference level. 3. I didn't like his retention from the moment it was announced and said that I'd much prefer WB cut the dead weight immediately. I think Benford has already had multiple Portland St level crises: first ever loss to a D2 school; first home losing season in 13 years; lose 20 games three times; and unlikely to hit 10 wins even including the two gimme games and will not hit 10 D1 wins this season; missed the conference tournament. -
And how many of them were VP level or higher?

This is a poor argument. Recruiting done by a coach/staff in the final season of his contract is essentially the same thing as having an interim coach doing the recruiting.

DRC: Benford addresses future after loss to Southern Miss

But what about distracting them from their school work during the rest of the spring semester!? -
Other than the daytime DISD games I don't think I've missed attending more than a half dozen MBB home games over the last 8 or 9 seasons. I called you out for talking shit because you aren't at the games. I know you support in other ways, but that's not the same as being there almost every game. The new regime isn't actively showing they are much different than the previous one. RV is still lauded for allowing tailgating as if that's some master stroke of genius and not a ridiculously low bar to hurdle. As I recall, you were supportive of RV until the very end. That's what I meant by "Buddy". I don't need to see anymore from WB. I've already said that I felt like UNT needed a man of action and I'm not seeing it. WB has to understand that his short term view here isn't the same experience his customers have had. I didn't call you names, not sure why you had to start, but you can go play your own dick swinging games out in the oilfield, just leave me out of them.

*I'm not a fan of pulling a players 'ship because he's no longer considered "good enough" With that out if the way, GWP hasn't shown anything his entire career here before sitting out this season. Fuller is big man filler, but did show a little ability last season. In either case they (I think) each only have one year of eligibility remaining.

He left? *disclaimer* He's before my time so all I've got is a smart alec response.

Allowing all the losing to continue without any consequence is chafing. I also love how you are the one talking shit. You never come to games anyway so it's pretty easy for you to continue your "fan" level... It's not just one thing, or one season but the long term habitual losing and utter lack of any real drive or care to have a winning program. FFS we've got bunches of fans ready to wet themselves out of joy from extending a 5-8 football coach who isn't killing it in recruiting. If your pal RV had been back along with Benford this year I'd have been done before now. No school that is even half way serious about sports keeps a Benford level coach. He's now lost 20 games three time in five years. First losing home season in 13 years, first ever loss to a D2, never reached .500 against D1 competition and he gets five seasons!? This is deeper than just WB, but he needed to show that the long history of tolerating failure here isn't going to continue on his watch. By keeping Benford he's shown his hand.

@GrandGreen one thing to consider is that Woolridge has already used his redshirt so that should make him a less likely transfer candidate.

And it may, but you just need to be patient and allow the evaluation period to take place.
