Great in depth post. I hate seeing the trash in the wild and when I take my kids fishing, hunting, or hiking we always pack out more trash than we carry in. It is a small thing, but I can't look at all the trash and do nothing. Those pictures of the river bottom are just horrible. However, New Braunfels (and for that matter every other city in the US) doesn't have citizens. You are residents, but we do not have city states. I do think if this ban stands up in court you are likely to see a serious dip (sorry for the pun) in tax receipts. Perhaps there is a way to institute a check station and make people responsible for packing out what they bring in. Yes the lines would suck and the innocent would be punished with the guilty there, but the fines/fees for missing containers would be borne by the guilty/irresponsible. This could also be a good way for local law enforcement to identify potential DWI offenders...

As a Gator fan I am obligated to dislike anything from that UT, though I think Pat is an exception to this rule and she is a basketball icon. Very sad news and I hope she can lessen the impact of this as much as possible.

Missiles no, long range bombers yes. The ability to shoot down incoming ballistic missiles came along on in the late 80s, not when these sites were built and manned in the 60s. The concern was Soviet long range bombers might make it through our fighter defenses and these types of sites were the last line of defense if the bombers got through. Remember the Persian Gulf War and how everyone was amazed a Patriot missiles being able to shoot down SCUDs?

I hope so too, but I wonder if it was also just a way to keep our freshman class from being too big. Add a little veteran experience and keep from having 90* freshman on the team at the same time. *some exaggeration, but this is GMG!
