You both may be partially correct. They will be allowed to leave early when the conference is sure they have the right number of new members and they have gotten Pitt and Syracuse to pay them a very large sum of money.

Then it will be something along the lines of why are we playing SWAC teams, or this is just a football state etc...

Don't worry I am sure HoopmanX will be along shortly to tell us all he wasn't good enough for SMUt and CUSA. -

There are few more, uh, vocal fans than my wife and I. We are cautiously optimistic about this season. Over the last few years, we have been privileged to watch the best UNT basketball in decades . We have watched a couple of classes of new freshmen come in, grow, win, and leave. Our entire family loves Mean Green basketball and we will be on hand to support this year's team. I imagine there will be stretches where they play like a bunch of young guys who don't know each other (and JJ will get pissed and sub a few guys out). There will also be stretches where we will just sit back in a amazement at their play (after sitting down from cheering a huge dunk or a timeout by the opposing coach trying to slow us down). I think you can guarantee an exciting season, just not guarantee an NCAA playoff appearance. I do think we will play in a post season tournament, even if we have to buy our way in to one of the little two dances.

Abundance of greed holds SEC expansion hostage
Army of Dad replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
As others have said they may have a case based on the commitment/contract all member schools made. I just don't see how they are being morons. They are doing everything they can to help themselves, just like A&M. I doubt you would feel the same way if RV were threatening a suit to get UNT included in the reformed Big 12. Hmm, kind of like the Pittsburg Pirates then? I don't think they aren't willing to commit to improving themselves, they are just not as big as the large Big 12 state schools. For what it is worth I think just about all of the BCS auto-bid schools are greedy. I don't see how Baylor is being more greedy than A&M or TU or anyone else. -

If there is nothing wrong with A&M acting in their own self interest then there is nothing wrong with Baylor and the others doing the same, right? -
If he hit a cop, firefighter or judge would you feel different about him being charged with a felony? How about sexual assault, robbery, or arson? If the crime he committed is a felony in his state then that is what he should be charged with. Let the courts decide his punishment if he is found guilty. I do hope that he is kept in the juvenile justice system, provided this is his first serious offense. I think this is a very serious offense. Lord knows I have fussed at an official (or 50) in my time, but there are lines you just shouldn't cross. Actually assaulting a sports official (and in a pretty violent manner in this case) is crossing a big red line deserving of serious charges.

from the original article: "The fight that quickly turned into a mob scene was apparently over a disputed call in the game among the two junior teams ages 13 and 14." So that would make the "kid" a teenager and the article also states that assaulting a game official is a felony in Florida. Even if he gets convicted of a felony I didn't see anything where they are trying to charge him as an adult so it looks like he will still be in the juvenile justice system. Are you saying that a 13 or 14 year old kid shouldn't be responsible for his own actions?

UNT lands Argyle guard Clarke Overlander
Army of Dad replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I think we are all getting used to JJ pulling in some top recruits. I can see where people (in green or not) might think we are not living up to last year's recruiting level. I will continue to trust in the Johns and I hope these guys are diamonds in the rough. -
UNT lands Argyle guard Clarke Overlander

The first bolded bit is completely wrong. He does appreciate his time at UNT, even fighting through all of the injuries and surgeries he still loved being here. He is still in contact with most, if not all, of his teammates (note that they haven't had any issues with his FB posts) and all of the UNT coaches. He graduated (you know, what we expect our athletes to do) and chose to go to a grad program not offered by UNT. He also managed to continue his basketball career. I know people around here hate SMU, but had he gone to Rice for grad school would there be the same vitriol? Second bolded point is right on. My post isn't a shot at you Mike, just using your comments to expound a bit. -

To each their own, but we usually figure that we will miss at least one game for another event we can't skip. We just look at those games as an opportunity to expose our friends to Mean Green basketball.

Per ESPN Jordan Jefferson and Joshua Johns are facing felony charges from the brawl. That of course isn't enough to interest the NCAA, but the fact that the police removed 49 pairs of shoes might get the NCAA interested. Obviously losing two starters 'indefinitely' will hurt, but with everything else going on involving impermissible benefits at major programs...
