4 Teams You Would Like To Home & Home With
NT71 replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
1. Would love to see each year a service academy (Army, Navy or Air Force) 2. Would like to see TCU and SMU and NT play each other so that whoever wins two of the games is crowned the Metroplex Champion that year 3. The last team would like to see us play Oklahoma State -
Congrats To Tcu, 13-0, Co-National Champions

If you watched the game GP was unbelivable with his coaching. He was constantly communicating to the guys and the announcers even mentioned that he was telling the D to tackle low not chest high. If you noticed the D was doing that most of the game. This is one time I rooted for the froggies to win the game. -
I trust that Coach Mac has already laid out what he needs and who they will be going after to his staff. One of the early comments he made was his focus would be the local area first, whole State of Texas second, and if a lead is provided outside Texas will take a look to see if that individual will fit his program. Do not know how the recruiting game is played. However, Coach Mac did indicate that he wanted young men that have goals of obtaining a quality education and have fun playing football. This would indicate to me that he will be going after quality recuits who are of good character and will take care of their academic and athletic performance requirements.

Should Nt Refuse To Play Utsa And Tsu-Sm (In Football) ?
NT71 replied to Texas Stranger's topic in Mean Green Football
First UTSA must have a football team to play. Right now it is putting things together to have a team and how long that will take is anybody's guess. Texas State needs to get up to the level of Div 1 as they are currently Div 1AA (I am old school). Next it will depend upon the conference realignment and OCC schedule but as I currently understand it the schedule is locked for OCC for a few years. -
Merry Christmas to the Mean Green Nation and Rick's message has said it all.
-
Based on the recruiting successes thus far and with the new defensive coordinator I firmly believe that we can win all our games at home.
-
If our guys play like they did tonight against remaining opponents for this BB season I will expect us to get a 12-14 seed in the NCAA Tourney

North Texas has many things going for recruiting any football player especially this year and they are listed as follows: 1) New Coaching Staff 2) New Football Stadium 3) Continued expanding Academic Studies 4) A Renewing of the campus (new buildings) Those are just 4 that come to mind and I would hope that the parents are wise enough to help steer their son toward obtaining a quality education. For Those Who Think The Belt's Perception Is Changing
NT71 replied to eppy4life's topic in Mean Green Football
Untjim1995 you have valid points and FloMoGrad is correct but needs to add one more point. Support the program with your dollars, be in the stands if possible, and purchase UNT merchandise. -
Harry I appreciate the efforts of Gangrene and Old Timer to keep all of us informed about what is going on with the recruiting efforts of Coach Mac's staff and who is actually coming to North Texas where we all know they will get a quality education and we will have a possible bowl appearance next year. Since I do not keep up with all the NCAA rules can someone advise when is the date that HS students can commit in writing to North Texas?
-
CAM you posted several key points and that is why I am extrememly happy that Coach Mac is at North Texas. "The coaches will prepare the players well and they will not leave out any details. The program will produce graduates that are better men and better players than when they got to North Texas. Coach Mac is a motivator who knows how to build a program and will strategically put the right people in the right places to be successful." First he will prepare these young men for life and will hold them accountable academically! Second he will have them prepared to play against whomever the opponent they will be playing. And finally he will put those young men in a position to be successful. I am thankful there are people who have walked the walk with Coach Mac and can from personal experience tell us about how he has effected their career in both life and on the field.

The AD in Maryland is new to the job and do not know what the background is in terms of whether ordered to hire Leach or on his own. Also, from some of the papers in the DC Metro area they stated because this guy is new to the job he was out manuvered on which bowl Maryland would go to by the former AD. She went to I believe NC State and got them in a better bowl for the ACC than Maryland which is going to the bowl locally in DC area.

My 2 cents is that Mac is being paid to be the CEO of the UNT Football Team. It is his responsibility to bring in both a coaching staff who can coach but also recruit. I firmly believe that given the parameters set forth, and his offensive coordinator, UNT games are going to be exciting! His defensive coordinator will get the most out of his existing players and special teams will greatly improve. Now for my expectations nine wins!! I base that on those coaches who are being hired and speculation of those athletes coming to play football at UNT.

I know that many of you folks have your pulse on the schedule so can anyone provide the suggested schedule and dates?

If Offered, Should We Join The Mountain West Conference?
NT71 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I voted No because in looking at the economics the travel costs will be astronomical. Next will be the coverage in the East which will be almost none existent because of the timezone. If we are to go up in the polls people must see the scores in the Sunday paper back east. Third, what about coverage of the various teams a separate network that does not cover squat (MWC network). On ESPN at least right now I can at times get the NT games on ESPN3. Take a look at LaTech in the WAC in terms of what travel costs are doing to their athletic budget which even though it is MWC the travel costs would kill our athletic budget. My thought is with all the unsettling of conference shifting there may be an emerging conference. Remember it was President Rawlins that worked with Chuck Neinas to form the CUSA. My vision would be a more regional conference be formed because of economics/travel and given the current state of the economy it is better to be frugal during these financial troubling times. GMG -
And Greendylan that is why if Chico is not the head coach that I hope he is retained as an Associate Head Coach because he has the guys playing as the NT Eagles (i.e., Mean Green).

For those of us who have been around NT for a few decades no matter who is at the helm we still bleed green. I will not defend either RV or TD as they were hired to do a job. And depending upon your perspective you can look at where the University was before RV and TD and what is the state of athletics at NT today. After you make the comparison then you can provide your answer and from my perspective the state of athletics at NT today is better than it was prior to RV. However, on the state of the football program that is another story. Just my 2 cents
-
Unfortunately Coach Dodge will not be back but he has cleaned up the program. Whomever RV hires I hope will be able to win and recruit quality athletes. If whomever is selected and can put 7 to 8 wins a year he will have a good career at NT until he decides to retire or move on. However, with all that said I am still behind both the coaches and players as I would like nothing better than the team to win the remainder of their games this year. GMG

RR you do not know that NT has tried the WAC before in a conference named the Big West. That was a miserable experiment and did not do anything to help promote NT. Until the conference alignment is done no one knows where NT will wind up but until such time as those things are settled then we will be in the Sunbelt conference. As to your questions about the hiring of a coach that resides with the AD.

I watched the NT vs Army game and was not happy with the outcome even though rooting for NT the whole game. I wanted TD to win both Rice and Army games because of what he has done off the field to clean up the program. Even before the season began B. Vito predicted a 3-9 season with wins over FAU, Ark St., and WKU in Dave Campbell's 2010 Texas Football and he further indicated that the two games of the year are Rice and FAU. I will still be pulling for NT in all the remaining games and would like the team to run the table so that TD will get 7 wins. Many people are looking at woe is me with the injuries. I think that is bolony stuffing. These young men were recruited to play for NT and have the skills to do so the only issue is will the coaching staff give them the opportunity to play and put them in what would be their most effective position on the field. Now for the decision as to the type of coach my guess is that RV has by this time gotten the report from the consultant (Neinas sp?)and will probably contact the consultant if TD can not win 7 games. I trust RV because of what he has brought in to NT in terms of coaches as there have been only two that have yet to produce, the women's BB coach and TD. I figure this season should be a breakout for the women's BB even though there has been a turnover in staff. Football it depends can TD win 7, if yes then great, if not then at the point in the season when it becomes apparent that 7 wins can not be achieved then RV will have some decisions to make. The biggest is do you temporarily promote from within and remove TD or let him finish the season then remove him as HFC. Also given the uncertainity of all the conference realignment it would probably be a coach who has the skills to recruit effectively and would probably cause a big splash with the hire. NT in my opinion will need someone who understands that you can bring in quality student atheletes who have solid character and can play along with a solid reputation of running a clean program but can win!! That is my $0.02

Anyone Else Think This Is The Make Or Break Game?
NT71 replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
My $0.02 worth is that our team will come out firing on all cylinders. The special teams will have eliminated the mistakes. Thompson and Stratford (sp?) will connect several times and because of that Dunbar will begin to run wild over Army. This will be the first win of the season and coach Caneles will not run the wildcat with Riley but instead use him at flanker. Riley will score his first TD of the season. The defense will keep Army in check because the offense will be on the field for about 45 minutes of the 60 minute game. I look forward to watching the first victory of the season!!!! GMG -
PMG I totally agree that TD should be given the opportunity to finish the season. Also, RV will continue to do what is best for NT and it is his call.
-
First I support TD as long as he is the HC at NT and I will always pull for the NT Team regardless of sport. Second I trust RV's decisions as evident by the recent hires in coaches. The only one other coach that has not yet produced other than TD is SS the women's BB coach. Third all the NT Athletic Teams have overall improved not only athletically but also academically. RV was given a new contract and sizable increase in salary and why? Because he produced!!!! Therefore it is up to RV and he is being paid as the AD to make the hiring and firing of NT coaches. All that said I sincerely hope that TD can turn it around and win 7 games because he has brought in quality young men and that reflects well on NT especially in the academic area and in the community.
-
Does anyone know if Chuck Neinas has given NT his analysis of NT Athletics? If so is the information available to those of us who are interested in NT Athletics or if it is being held under lock and key?
-
I listen to the game and remember when TD came in as the HC of NT and almost everybody was estatic about the hire. There were a few folks that wanted a proven commodity in the HC. Regardless of the season I will continue to pull for our Mean Green it does not mean that I am happy that we are losing but rather it is our team. I am hoping for TD to get 7 wins. Without 7 wins I have no doubt that RV will pull the plug on TD. RV has a track record and that is why he got an increase in pay and a new contract. He has brought in coaches that have begun to put NT on the map in other sports. I am hopeful that regardless of whether TD is successful that the HC next year will continue to bring in quality athletes. I am pleased to see that our athletes in all sports are continuing to do us proud with their academic achievements.
