"All in all - the day was a success. I don't think we'll find out how successful it really was until NT beats the crap out of a few teams this year." "I don't think I would want to be in any defense meetings this week. Do you think that we could get back to the fundamentals like wrapping up when we tackle? I know we might have some rust on us but come on UNT's running back looked like we was covered in CRISCO as he ran through our LB's, D-line, and Secondary." "Have to agree I guess we should feel lucky that we only gave up 10 points. Again I seriously hope that this was just the first game jitters, rust, or what ever you want to call it. We get one more quote warm up before we really start getting into the meat of our schedule. Come Steele now is the time to work some magic!" "North Texas threw about everything they had at us and we bent but will did not break and still beat them by what 25 points. There is nothing to be ashamed of and I give credit to North Texas for their great effort in this game." "No one has really given any credit to Dunbar the running back of North Texas, Just remember that North texas probably should have won about 7 games last year(they blew 5 double digit 4th quarter leads), and this year they are expected to contend for there conference title. Furthermore lets remember that Texas beat Rice today 34-17, and North Texas plays Rice next week. If North Texas beats rice by 14 next week some of you may start to give a little more credit to North Texas. This win may not be as bad as you think by the end of the year is all I am saying. Sure I was dissapointed by the amount of time North Texas had the ball, and the fact that they had 400 yards of offense. But truthfully I am a bottom line guy. and the bottom line is this is a better North texas team than last year, Last year they scored 7 points against Alabama and we held them to 10. thats 3 points difference. Its not as bad as some of you think." "I was disusted at the lack of effort early and the flat play on the field. It was good to see some big plays, but we should be able to shred UNT, no questions. The Dunbar kid at RB is amazing though." I could probably grade yesterday's performance, but after thinking about it awhile, I think I need to give credit to the North Texas group causing our performance to appear less than what it was. "They have a pretty darn good coach, as he coached a Texas HS team to 4 of the past 5 5A state titles - so the man knows how to coach. That doesn't always translate to the college level, but in his case, I think it does. Also, Dunbar could play on anyone's team. We have excellent defenders and he was moving thru them easily most times. The guy is simply that good. And their QB and WR's are EXPERIENCED, and were very good last season. They might be even better this year. Anyone that doesn't think NT will win a bunch of games this season is not looking. We beat a very solid, well-coached team that was firing on all cylinders. We just outplayed them. We'll be fine." "Don't discount this UNT offense, their coach is a high school god in texas. His offenses were madden-esque , and he only lost one game in 6 years. UNT is potent and Dunbar is a really good RB who has a great shot at the pro's." "Southern Miss was not as good as was predicted. North Texas was much better than predicted and will finish this season with a winning record. Usuc looked much sharper on defense than we did, whether we want to admit it or not. Bottom line: We were not expecting the N Texas staff to prepare for us as well as they did. Steele got out coached." "I think the entire UNT AD budget prior to this season was in the 10 to 12 M range. Not surprising that they have had problems recruiting with how poor their existing stadium is. Looks like they passed a student body athletics fee for the first time with an enrollment of over 35k and are building a pretty nice stadium for their conference. UNT should get a lot better pretty quickly" "after a good night's sleep I've come to this conclusion: There is NO way to put a positive spin our defense's performance. period. It's not how many yards North Texas gained, it's how they gained them. From the opening kickoff to the closing whistle they controlled the clock and dragged our defense up and down the field methodically carving out yards. They had quick slants, posts, passes up the middle and Dunbar ran at will. Our D Line looked soft, our LB's non-existent and our D-backs asleep at the wheel. If you take away our 3 longest plays we end up with minimal yardage. If you take away their 3 longest plays, it's still a 400+ yard game for North Texas. With TOP 3 times longer than Clemson's, it's obvious that we did not have a single answer on D. Are they well coached? Hell yes, I give North Texas a lot of credit. However, it wasn't our second string defense that they had their way with. I don't want to be all doom and gloom after the first week but the fact is that the score of this game does NOT reflect how close this could have been. North Texas was devastated by penalties all game whereas they worked in our favor throughout. This could easily have been a 21-17 victory, and if that were the case we'd ALL be saying the sky is falling." Alright....I am done fishing.

Bleacher Reports Hottest Fan Base

I mentioned it at the watching party and would have to go back and watch the play a couple times more but when they first broke-away and scored on us....did anyone else think that the ref being right in the middle affected our players ability to get at the ball carrier? Notice the ref got laid out.
-
I really want to see this on the helmets though....too much lettering with "North Texas"

I agree with your concern but also consider this year's UT team is not the same as last year with Colt driving the offense. Gilbert has yet to truly prove himself and while most expect Rice to perform better this year...I can only get EXTREMELY excited about next week's game in that we have a very respectable chance at getting a W.

"I work with a guy that who is a big UT fan and so is his wife, yet both graduated from UNT. When I call him out I get "We really wanted to go to UT." I think that is the typical response now. People not going where they really wanted to and trying to latch onto the big program name." Posers....the ultimate form of loserdom

UAB posted 345 Rushing Yds against FAU last night with 7.3 yds per rush with UAB's QB posting a whopping 214 yds himself in rushing.....that's incredible. Only 79 Passing yds on 19 Attempts. Minny posted 281 yds in Rushing against MUTS last night...in one night RB Duane Bennett posted more than half of his last year's total numbers in rushing by posting 187 yds (reference to MDK???) Minny also posted 150 yds in Passing though we can all see that Rushing was the deciding force in the outcome of the game. The breakdown??? Minny had dismal Rushing stats last year with having 1293 total and UAB having a lofty 2700+. The Point is that both FAU and MTSU (teams we must especially prep for) have a poor rushing defense. We posted 2,223 yds in rushing last year with Lance only starting 8 games. Expect Lance to run all over FAU like he did last year with 238 yds and 3 tds. One could argue the primary reasons of losing that game was our defense in combination with Riley being taken out of the game due to ankle injury. Though Tune had a great game...losing your Team's captain can easily demoralize the team mid-game. In regards to MUTS....Lance posted over 100 yds in only 5 carries last year....expect that number to increase drastically as well. Thoughts?

cause I am bored at work......... Sat, Sept 18 Memphis vs. MUTS Sat, Sept 18 UAB gets another Loss from TROY Sat, Sept 11 Obviously UNT vs Rice wow.....that's it. Believe that after last night....they won't be eager to schedule anymore than this number per year if not less.

Should Unt Sponsor Latech For Full Sbc Membership?
All About UNT replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
guys....tonight....a Sun Belt team almost beat a Big 10 team with a backup quarterback who hasn't taken FBS Level snaps... plus a FAU team beat a respected CUSA team....Do we really need to endorse an ingrate team like LA Tech? We don't need them....let them revel in their own self-conceived pompousness. -

you beat me to it Emmitt! Here are a couple of my observations: 1.) Kilgore has proven to be an energetic leader....and he can throw the ball 2.) MUTS defense struggled against the run in the first quarter...to the point where it wasn't contained. I only remember a couple of bombs being thrown by Minn but for the most part it was the run putting points on the board and moving the chains. Let us remember that Lance only had 5 carries on MUTS last year and raked in over 100 yds. Something to consider is getting Byrd and Hamilton ready for at least a dual RB running game against them 3.) Kilgore throws a missile....and it has been tipped once and almost picked another time. 4.) *Most important.........this team is not playing as if the Dasher scenario has affected them one bit. Lets see what happens next after the half.

"yeah...I know....but my mom's cousin's sister's ex boyfriend went there...and because of that I have been a fan since pre-birth. Can't wait to go to a game one-day"

About Lance “He’s good. He’s a real good player,” Steele said. “People don’t realize the parity in college football now. You can go and find a first round draft pick at defensive end at Troy State. There’s always been a way of finding those gems in the history of football, but now it’s pretty prevalent. He’s as good as any back that we’ll face- that’s not to say that aren’t others that are good or great one’s that we’ll face, but he’s special.”

I wouldn't sweat this....yes our opponent's defense will be looking out for Dunbar (esp Clemson and Rice) but after a few games I believe that our now more diversified offensive threat will reveal a far larger bag of tricks. Defenses will have to adjust for covering scenarios that didn't exist in large numbers last year (i.e. more usage of WR and TE). This will cause them to have to focus on this threat as well. I would be shocked if we didn't run the option more than you think...though not the fastest guy in the world he has gained some weight since last year and I expect that Tune running would throw everyone for a unanticipated shock.
-
Disagree Quoner.....I haven't asked this question. About Rice? Of course and I do believe it is a must win. This is why I will need to see the Rice game this weekend to see how they performed. One can easily state that we need to be competitive in this game and throw some shocker plays out there for the masses to see. People need to see us competitive but to win against an established team like Clemson when TCU barely closed them out last year is a miracle. Rice = Must Win or else we won't compete well against Army (on their turf). Getting blown out by Clemson then beaten by Rice would destroy the morale of the team and make it vastly tougher for them to compete with ease the remainder of the season. I have faith in Tune (I am a Thompson fan though) in that he did his best against Bama last year and gave Troy all he had as well. This year will see a large increase in Deep Ball attempts due to a healthy and able receiver core...and a QB who can put it down-field.

Haven't you heard?? Its a well-kept secret that we just switched to the Smash Mouth Offense in hopes of Lance Dunbar getting 200 yds on you. Keep it between you and me...and go tell Coach Swinney to only prepare to defend against this.

My link and I quote "The WAC! Might as well stay in the SLC. Just becauses it's a new program doesn't mean the coaches and players have never played before. Starting at the bottom is for losers. Jump into the toughest conference that will have us and our large TV market and make adjustments. Texas has tons of talent going to Missouri (Chase Daniel), Kansas (Todd Ressing), Alabama (McElroy), etc. Certainly some of these guys would want to stay closer to home. If you can't understand this, then stay on the sideline and let the bigboys bark." Yeah...cause Chase Daniel and McElroy wanted to go to UTSA. One of these guys must have posted that comment
