I am not wanting to see what kind of yards their stud RB is gonna put up against SBC teams. They actually look improved this year and I have to give credit where it is due. The kid has played Kentucky and Nebraska and has over 339 Rushing Yds. A Definite threat to LD's run for the Sunbelt RB of the Year

SMU is decent though it is still rather bare outside of the pony. SAM's plates aren't impressive....UH looks pretty clean. I am still a huge fan of ours...looking smooth

and in response...there should have been one.

thats one helluva scout sheet. Impressed. On the other hand...Army will have limited footage of Derek and his style so this will be a plus on our end. Also...if they remain focused on the passing and not so much on our Running game..this can only be a benefit to us. -
Noone is trying to be a "eugoogolizer"...cept maybe this guy

Not what I intended at all...I just see Nathan (as others have stated on this thread) as a standout in the amount of sacrifice he has given to the team vs. what he is getting out of the entire situation. My sympathies go out to every injured player that we have...and in no way am I frustrated by the misconception that I care more than others on here. What does frustrate me is the jokes..the thumbs down and the downright negative feedback that some have posted on here. Your comment above was all that needed to be said to say your peace. When I am approaching retirement age (like some on this board) I will have hopefully given back to my school an amount of money, time and energy that is worthy of being associated with a Mean Green Fan...until then my recent graduation post college budget allows me to give $500 annually to the school for various causes. It is not a holier than thou sentiment I carry..but more of a failure to grasp some of the feedback (or at least how it is presented) on this thread that is bothersome to me.

Go ahead SUMG...tell me the relevance of that question?

careful Primo..."picking favorites" can quickly get you scorned by those that don't agree. Even that SMU supporter Todge Rodge doesn't get as many as I do for merely trying to show a player we give a crap.

Wow...some of you surprise me with thumbs downing the idea. If you have a problem with it...then just don't sign anything.

I only continue to insert these quotes from the other boards to show that not just Clemson....but now Rice has our respect. "I think that everyone here is discounting just how much N Texas is improved from last year, especially on defense. Nothing quite like adding a 300 lb DT and a 320 lb NG from the juco ranks, plus 5 other BIG DL, to help turn a porous defense into a fairly stout one. They moved big LB's to DE to get more speed on their defense too. The result is that this year's UNT defense is light year's better than last year's version. Rice's offense isn't where we want it to be, but realistically, we have played against two very stout defenses in our first two games. I don't know what Northwestern or Baylor have on defense, but I doubt they will be any better than what we saw in the first two games and arguably will not be as good." "C'mon talon. Clemson had half of their yardage on 3 plays. We had 25% on 2 plays. We were better in the passing game than Clemson and worse in the running game, which was to be expected. Take away 5 big plays and UNT is sitting at 2-0 right now. Heck, take away 2 (one each game) and UNT is sitting at 2-0. Like it or not, UNT is a very improved defensive unit this year." "I agree. And as far as establishing an identity goes - we're a spread team, but are now finding our strength is at RB....so, we want to be a balanced team - but we haven't got that all sorted out yet. I think our struggles last night were five-fold: 1. UNT's defensive line was quite stout - consistently beating our OL 2. Our WR's were not getting open - so UNT was able to crowd the box even more, making it even harder to run - and also the reason we went to Luke Wilson over and over - he was the only one open. Every completion to a WR was a pinpoint pass. 3. Our playbook, especially running plays, is too small. They had an over-committed defense of the read option figured out before the game even started, but we had almost no other run plays to counter with. 4. Passing game frequently run out of a no-back set, so UNT DL could pin their ears back even more. This only works well if your receivers can gain some separation quickly, and we weren't. 5. Playing down to the competition. UNT has very good talent, but played dumb. We eventually matched their screw-ups tit for tat." "I think UNT is better than many people give them credit for. At least as far as talent." "Fair enough. There were some balls Rice caught that UNT receivers did not show the ability of catching. If UNT caught some of the passes that they should have - pedestrian opportunities - then they would've had a 21-28 point lead in the second half." "UNT played a good game on defense, that doesn't mean we can't have more success vs Northwestern." "Agree about talent. UNT looked a lot better than their previous records would suggest. Disagree about WRs catching -- we dropped two sure TDs that were very catchable. Those cost us 11 points. IMO the difference was that UNT spotted us 10 points before they started playing. ETA: our special teams, though not perfect, were much much better than theirs." There would be more....if Rice's board was half as active as ours is (as of recent).

Just kidding Emmitt!

Good idea King...it may have to wait till the next home game though to get signed.

Sorry Greek...forgot about that. So would that include baskets or what not?

I think we can all rally behind Nathan and show the true appreciation we have for all that he has endured and faces with his injury. His willingness to fight as hard as he could to prove the experience factor alone was not the reason as to why the reigns were handed over to him shows the true dedication he has to the Mean Green. With that said...if anyone knows how we can pool together something and have it delivered to him (either hospital or home)...I would like to be one to contribute. So the guy plays football and I am not sure that flowers are the appropriate gift but I would like to see him get something on behalf of this board just to let him know that we appreciate all that he has given. Ideas...suggestions.... anything pertinent to what I just said is going above and beyond.

Harry....we coulda gone without that little sidenote. LOL. We did hold Rice to 106 yds rushing....we can prep for this!

Persepctive From A New Season Ticket Holder

sooo...just for the record. Only one man left the Alamo when giving the chance to (Travis's famous speech)....the rest were like us and in for the long haul. I just hope outcome of the scenario is what separates the two situations. -

and to be honest...even my father after last night's game called me and asked if I could possibly bring him to a game sometime. He is a Michigan State grad (BA and MA) and goes to at least 4 games a year of the Spartans. For him to say that about desiring to go to a Mean Green game is almost tear-jerking. -
You are a fool if you believe that latter part of this sentence.

I heard that their first string QB was knocked out of the game in the first half yesterday with the backup in indefinitely.

I too have been in the same position all day. Came home stone cold sober last night so there is no excuse for the worst hangover-like feeling I have had in some time (and I go out every weekend). The upside is that I took my feelings out by hitting up a shotgun range with friends earlier...blasting every ounce of disappointment out the end of a 12-gauge. With that said...I too share optimism in giving the ball over to Derek. He knows the score and knows that he is all we have. I feel with his past performance under pressure record that he won't disappoint. If we lose the next 2-3 games I can't do this anymore either. We all give so much into believing in the team, the coaches and the program that it is mentally unhealthy to throw all you have into the Mean Green only to be led to be disappointed...time and time again. FAN23...I don't think that Brett's article insists that Riley will start...but more like he will be taking snaps and getting prepped to be a backup (as will Teagarden).

King...thanks again for taking us into your tailgate today. The guys and I really appreciate it! This game has so many parallels with last year's Ohio game it isn't even funny. The only plus I can see out of this situation (and I hate to say it) is that you can expect Derek to come out swinging with everything he has to show that he has the skills to be our starting QB. If we can get him to play smart...calm, cool and collected...then I expect great things from him. Army = Must Win....or the season is done with maybe 3 wins. WKU even put some points up on UK today...as they are getting better as well. With FAU giving MSU a good run...MTSU almost beating Minny...and Troy almost taking OSU to the woodshed again I am nervous that those three teams are almost certain Ls at this point. We have to get this together or we all lose (not just Todd).

ran into Jeremy Phillips at Rudy's in Denton on the way home...he too confirmed that it was a dislocated hip and that he and some others were heading over to the hospital to see him. My best wishes go out to him. If I can reassure you that we should feel strong and confident in that a very capable QB will be taking the helm until Nathan returns. Though it was a loss...great game tonight. GMG

Not a fan of any of the college games being held in NFL stadiums....truly takes away from the college experience of a game. You could hear a mouse fart in that stadium today.

If we can all agree that Dunbar needs a little room to get his speed up and then becomes a terror to catch with the ball in his hands.....why have we not tried him at KR? I don't pretend to know the in's and out's of FB as to who would do well....I just thought this was a question worth asking. Enlighten me?
