  1. It is kind of like me driving on the right side of the road while semis are heading toward me on the other side of the that yellow line. We have a mutual agreement that him hitting me would harm him, even though it would definitely do worse damage to me. Whatever D* named people they have doesn't want to go ass wild on the likes of UNT, because it may damage their draft position with a nice injury, even though they may get the chance unload on Tune. Most likely they tackle him and go after the ball. Now, if this were a rivalry game, then they may put caution to the wind -- on a side note, who is Clemson's rival?
  2. I don't understand the anger at "burning his redshirt." He was on the travel squad. He is a viable player, since he made the trip. Dodge only had three QBs on the trip and two of them were knocked *out* of the game with injuries. Who plays? The next QB on the list. Who would have he put out there? Scrappy?
  3. Flying to Raliegh, NC. Drinking whiskey with a fellow MG alumn and the husband of a MG TAMs alumn. Then riding shotgun for the 5 hour drive gameday, watch a blowout, drink too much and stay in a hotel while nursing wounds with more whiskey. In the morning, try to find a place to eat a fatty breakfast, because heartburn and a hangover go hand in hand. Then ride backseat to NC and fly back to the flatlands. Sounds like the yearly ass whipping I endure for my MG love.
  4. And the Pink in the Eagle Nest.
  5. I couldn't find any ties for the owner of Eagletalk and UNT. He doesn't live in North Texas either -- he lives in East Texas. The man who owns Eagletalk used the site as the USM's fan site in the early 2000's. He worked the site and quickly it became popular enough that he parlayed it into the rivals fan board. Then he wrote articles for Rivals -- seemingly as a job. There seems to have been some drama with some of his stories and the fan boards, and he no longer was at Rivals. However he still had the Eagletalk domain. It sat idle for some years, then he re-spun it into a Mean Green (Eagles) site and I think he was hoping to get it onto Rivals. His old Rivals ties may be the source of his information, that others didn't seem to have. I dunno. He stopped posting stories as soon as Troy Phillips unveiled the UNT Rivals -- maybe a complete coincidence. It is a mystery, fo sho.
  6. G.A. Moore kneeling and praying?
  7. What is up with the colors? They are all over the map.. Blue, Green, Pink?!
  8. It is the opposite.. "He got his nickname when the Pittsburgh fan base mistakenly assumed that the North Texas team nickname of 'Mean Green' was Joe Greene's nickname; however, Coach Rust's wife wanted to give a nickname to the team's outstanding defense. Since green is the school's main color, she gave the defense the name 'Mean Green'." -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Greene_(American_football) When I was a student I had always heard that our talon hand sign ("The Iron Claw") was given to us as a "gift" by Fritz Von Erich, because his sons had gone to UNT and played sports. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Von_Erich_Family#Fritz_Von_Erich I really liked that story, though it had no legs. I like it so much that I still tell people it.. Though most people outside the North Texas area have a hard time remembering the famous Von Erichs.
  9. You don't say... They still have benefits. Even in the real world. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4685909/
  10. That would be my preference. Obviously he needs to pick from the choices -- Riley isn't one. Playing NCAA 11 with Tune is hard. They have his mobility next to nothing. I use Teegarden because of his mobility and the option threat. His throwing is far from stellar, but he keeps the defense honest in their blitzing. So if life were a video game, the freshman would have my vote.
  11. Precisely why Dodge should make a hard decision and go down swinging with that decision. It leaves too much to be debated if you always have your finger on the trigger waiting to fire the starting QB. Pick the QB you like the most and work within his skill set.
  12. That's how Dickey would have done it -- and we hardly won any OOC games and hardly ever had a starting OB before conference play. It is hard to make the difficult game decisions when you have to look over your back the whole game.
  13. 1) Tulsa (either one) -- but I think the home loss stings more. On the road I remember Tulsa trying to be nice before half time and kick a field goal instead of blowing up the score. Dickey calls a timeout, pisses on TU's coach and they send in their offense and score the TD just to spite DD. 2) South Florida -- jesus. I thought this game would be proof we were finally "good." 3) Troy (2001) -- We only had to beat a Div 1aa (provisional 1a) school to have a WINNING record heading into our first bowl game in 4 years? But we still can't win?one1! 4) Kansas State -- that was a long drive there and back. TTG sums it up well. However, their stadium blows and their fans were on the lame side of passionate fans. I guess that is a minor victory. 5) USM -- I thought we would see the offense peak and Super JMO be on ESPN. Instead we got a tricked up offense that didn't look anything like what got us there.
  14. Frankly -- that is depressing. That looks similar to a DPD-DPFB Rugby league. BUT, with that said, it would be a blast to live in Poland and be Polish for a few months a year and you get to dominate a game you love, can't be that bad.
  15. It's bad because it is disingenous. If all of those kids kicked ass and ended up qualifying (which at Troy, isn't hard to do) -- there wouldn't be enough spots for them. They would be shown the door anyhow. In fact, maybe that happens, but it is reported as "going to a JC instead."
  16. Last time? It happens every time we play a non-conference FBS team (minus the cinci chic-filas). Most fans are over the "respectable showing." Especially against a team so lowly regarded in FBS. Hell, even on NCAA 11, Rice has D's across the board. UNT has C/C-. Even NCAA 11 thinks we should win the pillow fight -- and we will have home field.
  17. Last year he split starting time with another QB. Both QB's were used in each game they played in. It is almost like Evans learned how to coach QB's from Dickey.
  18. Looking at the poll and how everyone is answering, it appears you are redefining "must-win." Getting blown out on a road and then getting beat at home, puts UNT in a deeper recruiting hole. It is a must win to beat the teams that are our recruiting competition. We must win that battle to win the recruiting war. Especially if we do end up 9-3 (like you offer up) and Rice goes to a bowl too, but they beat us and that matter to a recruit. Hell, it is even worse if Rice goes 1-11 and we still go 9-3. So yes, I think most people find it a must-win. By your definition, no game is a must-in, because the season should never be over in the player's head. They should never fold.
  19. I am in.
  20. Isaac Thomas? I know who you are talking about, just can't really recall his name.
  21. MK was a hell of a player here. He was on the the players that I was genuinely surprised didn't get picked up on some NFL team. He seems to be doing great up there in the CFL. Very nice.
  22. Helmets for non-whites.
  23. There is a tickets board from the main forums page. The nearer the season gets, the more people will post that they can't make the game. History has shown that a lot of alum buy tickets, but don't use them because they are out of state. Often times if you post on that board which games you want, they will mail them to you as long as you promise to use them and buy them a beer if you ever meet in person. I know we have scored plenty of tickets that way. It is a win-win.
