  1. Thanks. I hope you don't teach both sides of the Jew genocide.. or that slaves were actual more happy in slavery and didn't want to be freed. There are just some right sides of topics. That's my only point.
  2. Ah damn it. I mixed up my pop white girls. My bad. My mind had them married, not Moore. But duh, Taylor has not been married yet. See @THOR ? Oh My Sweet Carolina - a classic.
  3. I loaded it up right away in the morning. Told Alexa to play it for the morning routine. I was always curious why She wasn't more influenced by her marriage to Ryan Adams.. but then again he's not a good guy so I bet working with him would be terrible.
  4. This is absurd. That's my belief. I believe Trump is a clown, in every way. Yet, even with my firm belief of his clownnedd, I wouldn't link or trust a "news" site that referred to him by Clown instead of President. I'm looking for facts and not snarky GOP trolling. That's what China virus is.. a troll. It's not the name of the virus. It's not about politic correctness. It's about not being an asshole. Words matter.
  5. It's ok. We can feel sorry for each other. Doesn't hurt my feelings. If you think I sound like someone that never changes my mind or admits when I'm not knowing, then you aren't following along. I always thank a correction or someone helping me find a way. In this thread, I said I didn't know how federal funding worked for schools, someone answered, I thanked.. then went to look more in TEA. I wouldn't be reading Texas scorecard as a news source - period. Their stats on how the parents chose? As I said, I could validate it elsewhere, but in my world I would have linked directly to Prosper ISD for the numbers. But if someone is to feel bad for me trusting Mayo Clinic over Texas Scorecard - I will sleep fine. I'm tired of the fake shit about this pandemic. Whether it's the immunity, the heat will kill it off, summer will make it disappear, community spread, studies that don't apply, cherry picking lines from articles, not believing flu shots are vaccines, it's just bad faith... I don't care about "beliefs" when science doesn't agree. I don't like a teacher not seeing the black and white in certain issues dealing with medicine or science. This isn't a topic about if I believe Taylor Swift's new album is truly folk music or not...
  6. If you think peer reviewed scientists and world renowned medical organizations that make NO attempts to hide their identity are the same trustworthy category as a Tea Party political organization (EmpowerTexans) and be hides behind news adjacent websites -- I genuinely feel bad for you. If you didn't sniff out "Texas scorecard" as not a "real" news outlet and more a press release agent for some other cause - again - that's crazy. They called it the "Chinese coronavirus" FFS! You seem to pride yourself on seeking out other news sources, but you are only quoting very right wing sites. I don't like reading sites that aren't being honest with who they are. As for "believing" what is on Texas Scorecard, I have no reason to doubt them reporting that Prosper is going back to school. I can verify that elsewhere. But if it were a "real" news article it would include some testing data, covid related news, hospital data, etc. That's my expectations for a news source.
  7. Just a little Google-fu and the answer is out there. Everywhere. Definition of vaccine: https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vac-gen/imz-basics.htm Explanation why Flu vaccines are seasonal: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/flu/in-depth/flu-shots/art-20048000 "Why do I need to get vaccinated every year? Because flu viruses evolve so quickly, last year's vaccine may not protect you from this year's viruses. New flu vaccines are released every year to keep up with rapidly adapting flu viruses. When you get vaccinated, your immune system produces antibodies to protect you from the viruses included in the vaccine. But antibody levels may decline over time — another reason to get a flu shot every year." Explanation of flu strains and variations and why they are seasonal: https://www.sinobiological.com/research/virus/influenza-hemagglutinin-subtypes "There are 16 different types of HA and 9 different types of NA, therefore, there are potentially 144 different subtypes of influenza A viruses. Among them, two subtypes of influenza A, H1N1 and H3N2, most commonly infect humans" So. You should be able to see that flu shot is the means for administering the vaccine. Though you can use a nasal must too. Still a vaccine.
  8. Outwardly, Prosper seems to be low spread. I wonder if they are community testing? Perhaps they meet the criteria for positive rates and can open in person.. that would be great. I don't know Prosper hospital numbers... I know nothing about Prosper. But I won't find any of that information from the teaparty EmpowerTexan AstroTurf publication... Masquerading as a news organization.
  9. Yet people read between the lines and will say that the WHO advices not to wear masks. But that is clearly not what they are saying. If you are mentally ill, you might have a problem with it, if you have trouble hearing and rely on lip reading to guide you, it may in irritate you so skin if you eczema, etc. It doesn't point to the ineffectiveness of masks, not that is how I keep hearing the verbiage used. ..and particular the part about 'may infect yourself by adjusting masks' is rich, because if you are actively around covid and it is in the air, you will catch it without the mask. Therefore, that line I saying to use it properly, but NOT to bypass its use.
  10. Please. Please. Show me WHO lately saying to not wear a mask in a spreading community. I'm wanting to learn. You can't say science changes daily, then hold on to Fauci saying not to wear a mask (6months ago) as proof that scientist and doctors don't know shit. Fauci was going on WHO data when they thought it was not an aerosol spread. Also, they recommended people to not wear/buy masks because PPE was in such severe shortage. That is not a reason to keep spreading false information now or to distrust experts.
  11. A five year old died of covid today in Dallas. Two kids died in Denver two days ago. But again, people are bringing up Australian studies, when they do not have community spread. And when they do (like they just had 400 cases) they shut down travel between states and shut down schools. We do not. We won't. So they are studying an environment where covid is not spreading. Period. So it's no shock that schools aren't spreading. Your comment about kids immunity not getting exposed by being sheltered... There is no proof of lasting immunity after infection. In fact it, there is proof of the second time you catch it, the symptoms are worse. So your comment on immunity challenges is just hearsay or positive thinking. There is no common cold immunity (well, there is, but it lasts 7 days) and that is what covid is pointing toward. Other strains of covid are more cold-like btw. Where did the 3821 kids in Dallas get it? Daycare. Summer camp. Church camp. It's that simple. We opened back up before we had two straight weeks of drops and test positive rates below 5%. Shelter kids from parents? I know that was just a cute question you threw in there - but no don't shelter kids from parents - don't send kids into a large gatherings while community spread is still happening/rising. I don't know why you won't see that we are not Australia, Germany or France.
  12. You are wrong. 100% wrong in every fashion. Please. Ask. A. Doctor.
  13. It shouldn't be political. 😕 Children do have rougher time with flu, but there is a vaccine, it is not as contagious or as deadly. Flu shots are given for free throughout every community. It is a big drive to keep children safe. YET - School districts are shut down EVERY year because of the flu. Obviously, COVID has no vaccine. We can't even get people to agree to wear masks (which is proven to be the best spread deterrent). The statistics on children is not a complete picture - not at all. 1. Children are more likely to be asymptomatic - therefore not getting tested and not getting 'counted' 2. Children have been less exposed. Schools have been closed. Camps are closed. It is recommended that only one person from a family go out to the stores - and not bring the children. Movie theaters, parks, gyms, all closed. 3. Tests (lab capacity) are a limited commodity - therefore we don't test everyone. 4. The studies about school kids and school spread is only in communities where there is little spread already. It is not apples to apples. But people are taking the conclusion of the study, without taking into consideration the input.
  14. But they are not saying kids SHOULD be in school explicitly. They are saying that when community spread is undercontrol... then sure... open up the schools. It is truly common sense and not anything new. What is new is people pointing to the studies that show low school spread in communities that have low community spread.... and trying to point to their high community spread town and saying - "see!? It worked in Germany!" When we are nowhere near Germany's community spread level. "Conclusion Schools are an important part of the infrastructure of our communities, as they provide safe, supportive learning environments for students, employ teachers and other staff, and enable parents, guardians, and caregivers to work. Schools also provide critical services that help meet the needs of children and families, especially those who are disadvantaged, through supporting the development of social and emotional skills, creating a safe environment for learning, identifying and addressing neglect and abuse, fulfilling nutritional needs, and facilitating physical activity. School closure disrupts the delivery of in-person instruction and critical services to children and families, which has negative individual and societal ramifications. The best available evidence from countries that have opened schools indicates that COVID-19 poses low risks to school-aged children, at least in areas with low community transmission, and suggests that children are unlikely to be major drivers of the spread of the virus. Reopening schools creates opportunity to invest in the education, well-being, and future of one of America’s greatest assets—our children—while taking every precaution to protect students, teachers, staff and all their families. " This is the part that gets overlooked in the "open at all costs" arguments. This long article is saying stuff we all agree on, kids are fed, comforted, taught and safe in schools (when there is no COVID in the community). Great, we agree with the CDC.
  15. President Harry Truman - "Socialism is the epithet they have hurled at every advance that people have made in the last twenty years. Socialism is what they called Social Security. Socialism is what they called farm-price supports. Socialism is what they called bank-deposit insurance. Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor. Socialism is their name for almost everything that helps all of the people.’ ” This is how most people use the term "socialism". And you can obviously go read about the confusion of the the term... over the years... and who uses it. But you won't. https://newyorker.com/news/dispatch/the-many-tangled-american-definitions-of-socialism
  16. Exactly - this is the same bogus usage of the term Socialism as it exists in modern vernacular. When people say they want to have more "socialism", they are NOT saying to eliminate capitalist markets. They want to recognize that some 'market' shouldn't be exclusively private. This video does not recognize that (purposely). If you think our grain market is a free market, you are insane. My tax dollars are propping up wheat against cheaper Brazilian wheat. My tax dollars are propping up cotton against cheaper Indian cotton. My tax dollars are propping up steel from cheapter Chinese steel. Why is it hard to understand that people recognize the upsides of capitalist markets (which we are not pure free markets) and also recognize that social programs are good and should be funded ... without being accused of wanting to be Venezuela 2.0? PragerU is propaganda.
  17. Oh lord. Yes - this guy's example of making sure everyone has the same cell phone and taking it away from you is PRIME socialism. Well done. This is the exact misrepresentation and astro-turfing that the right wing fear machine loves.
  18. When people say "socialism" they are not talking about abolishing private industry. Only the right wing fear machine makes it seem like that. In the modern target demographic "socialist" countries - like Norway - they have socialized medicine, but also private insurance. There are private hospital... public libraries and private reading rooms... etc. No one is making private industry illegal. They provide a social safety net. There are free universities, but also private universities. No one is advocate the old Russian Socialism machine. To say that this is NOT the style of "socialism" people advocate is a huge misrepresentation.
  19. Well today's Dallas County stats should be more in your liking them. 413 new cases - 30 deaths. 7.2% for the day.
  20. What did I miss? Where did anyone say they should be free?
  21. Thanks for leaving this opinion piece. Enlightening. He wonderfully weaves the notion of what the filibuster is thought to be and purposely setting up that the old filibuster ways are under attack. He tries to make it seem like the modern filibuster is Jimmy Stewart up there talking for 25 straight hours on the right side of the legislation making sure that the law is truly the right thing to do. He doesn't try to correct that thinking - instead makes it seem like Democrats want to attack our democracy - which is lunacy. The filibuster didn't get used much until almost one hundred years ago - during WWI. Then it went on to be the favorite tool to block the civil rights legislations. However, the effect of filibusters blocked all other bill debates since the floor was taken. It wasn't until the 1970's that they changed the rules to make a filibuster not actually be physical and blocking the debate of all other laws... which led to the way of a super majority being needed on nearly all legislation. But even with that - it wasn't until after Bush and into Obama administration that *every* legislation required a super majority because *every* bill was filibustered by the GOP. Obama wanted to reform filibusters - to make it less de-facto and more targeted. But those evil Democrats didn't do it, because they were still concerned about the minority party's ability to stop real troubling legislation. Yet the conversation to end the filibuster is nothing new. For either side of the isle. Even from the greatest of minds we have in Washington: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2018/04/03/trump-wants-the-senate-to-get-rid-of-the-filibuster-good-luck-with-that/ It is not as sexy to say that the legislators want to change a 50 year old filibuster rule to bring it back to how it really was used back in the good ole founding father days.
  22. Could be a factor of many things. 1. There is talk the this strain of COVID has mutated and more contagious and less lethal. But overall deaths would remain nearly the same with this hypothesis. 2. The population getting it right now has trended younger - they survive this easier. If those youth keep spreading though, it will hit the more at risk population eventually. 3. Now that the rest of the country sees how it hit the nursing homes so hard - there is a huge effort to protect those spaces. 4. Like Lifer, MD reported - some counties are not reporting only confirmed cases. So it skews the death rate down. 5. Tests are backed up and it will take a month or so to actually get the confirmed deaths from the counties. There is a two week gap in cases -> death and then up to a month to get the death -> report. That's why people watch the hospitalizations and cases and not the deaths - since it is a lagging indicator.
  23. If we played - then we should be paid. If we are cancelled - they would likely try to use Force Majeure to not pay the buyout.
  24. Yeh - the decision to stop elective surgeries had a huge effect on the ability for NYC to have more beds "ready." The hidden aspect of medical care is the staff capacity doesn't increase when you add beds. NYC should have gotten the surge nurses weeks earlier when they were planning the bed capacity surge. The 'beds available' count is bogus IMO. You can't have a baby in one month by grouping nine women together. What we see outside of NYC is hospitals are more full (overall) than NYC because elective cases are still going on. There is not a large cushion for more beds ... also the vent statistics are somewhat flawed. They count the shared vents and all other rigged up systems as individual vents. They are definitely not as good. It inflates the vent capacity - but those are worst case vents. Which thankfully were not needed. But hospital capacity may become a real issue in Arizona and Florida. Parkland here in Dallas is not in great shape... they have asked for federal assistance.
