This morning during the ESPN college game day that was done live on the Utah campus, they had Meyer on as a guest. Lee Corso asked him directly if he was considering taking the Florida job. Meyer said, there has not been any communication between himself and Florida. Then Corso asked again, "So your not leaving?". Meyer stated very clearly, "NO". If you think NT has a chance at Meyer then you might as well put Bob Stoops on that list as well because we have about the same chance to get both. Rick

I pay hundreds, spent thousands on my school's program. I drive an hour and a half each way to go see my team play and have done so so many times the past 17 years it would be impossible to count. I have dedicated countless hours on projects to help make sure some of our special traditions continue. I have involved my family in being fans as well, placing Mean Green interests over other activities. I placed my job at times to the side as well to support my team, my school as I think they deserve because we are trying our best to start something.......new here. I will again spend more money and time and travel to my fourth away game this season to attend my fourth bowl game to make sure there is one more voice to cheer on the Mean Green. But as I was reminded at the football banquet last year, and as I have been reminded in the media several times before, and while watching the post game bowl invite tonight beside the stage, along with the other 14,000 souls who showed up in the 40+ degree windy and rain soaked saturday evening, I again was reminded how sorry of a complainer I have been who cussed my team out earlier in the season. Shame on me and the rest of you. The guys in green sure showed us though didn't they? Again they made a complete fool out of me I suppose? You would think I would learn by now, whatever it is I'm suppose to have learned? I'm just a sorry, lousy escuse of a fan I suppose but..(Connor cover your ears again son,) I will have mine and my family'sA$$ back next year to do it all over again. Go Mean Green! Rick

WE WILL BE TEARIN DOWN FIELD GOAL POSTS

I say a cash prize should go to the one who tackles the first fan that reaches the goal post. Should we be fortunate enough to win another championship we must act like it. Rick -
ATTENDANCE AT OTHER SBC GAMES
FirefightnRick replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
"Denton- When the University of North Texas and Northeast Louisiana get together, theatrics are almost inevitable. Saturday night, North Texas quarterback Scott Davis provided the dramatics. He hustled 38 yards up the left sideline with 7:05 left to play to score the go-ahead touchdown and give UNT a 26-23 victory before 16,250 fans at Fouts Field"........... This is the first two paragraphs in the Dallas Morning News, Sunday October 9th, 1988 back when we were 1-AA and we had 6,000 less students. My point being the opponent did not matter then and it should not have last night either with so much going for us now, regional tv, a conference championship and bowl trip on the line, plus the nations top running back making headlines on ESPN. It's dizzying to think what in hell could possibly be the difference that would create such a difference from that of 16 years ago. Halloween parties would account for some of it, but not that much. No way. Rick -

Glad you guys got some fight in ya..

In '83 NTSU went 8-4 with a conference championship including wins over New Mexico State and U. of New Mexico. That season also included a 20 point loss to the God's gift of underachievement down in Austin and a 7 point loss to the Big 8's Oklahoma State. Bob didn't support his team because he just didn't want to. A major contributor to the problem, indeed! Rick -
After dropping that egg last night this won't be an issue at the next home game. Rick

Better yet, let's keep going with UNT_92_Fan's thought process and argue about throwing tortilla's or where to get our next pizza? Rick

Then give me the same respect. You dont' know me either. You have taken a thread about Lakisha Gentry dying and turning it into a criticism about a tradition that hasn't even happened yet. Great analogy. Rick

First, no one is RUSHING to change anything. I and the Swartz' have been working on the Cannon for over a year now. Second, had it been decided to do anything it would have been to ADD, not change as I mentioned before as an option even though the overwhelming response supported a name change altogether. Third, adding a small 3/8ths inch tall stamped-on number to a piece of steel isn't anywhere close to a "spectacle", especially when only 10 to 12 people out of what, 15,000 in attendance would know what the original name of it was in the first place. That truly would be earth shattering wouldn't it? Fourth, you can relax and sleep well tonight as the idea has been dropped altogether as other options are currently being explored. In the very least Andrew has help some of you wake the @#$@# up and realize that we do have traditions and that they are worth fighting for. Like myself and the Swartz', Balics', Hobdy's, Olsons', Kalks, Miers',Roellings', Blacks', Baltzleys', Plummers',Coverts',Finchers', Herrolds', Jacksons', etc.....when some of you have been working and spending your free time trying to make things better for the future you may want to try and remember that. Unbelievable! Rick

What the...? Lakisha died in April and we are still talking about her and the four students who died in December. It's been mentioned several times here on the this board and I have spoken of them to many of you on the phone over the past week. In fact, fortunately I missed it by one shift having to work the accident that Gentry was involved in so she is in my thoughts especially every time we turn on Berry St. here on the east side. If you want to help us here remember the others who have past away then do some research into their lives and let us know, or find someone who knew them so that they can share some thoughts about their lives here with us. The back of every North Texan lists NT alumns who have past away recently but just because we dont' talk about them here on this board doesn't mean our minds are closed to them.<_< Rick

I remember the Lewis well. He was all the rave for the SWC and a&m until his senior year in 1990 when his drug problems surfaced and he ended up being pick very late in the draft. In fact our very own Eric Pegram was picked before he was. I'm surprised he has been able to stay out of jail this long. Sad. Rick

I suppose most of you know that Lance Armstrong is attempting to win an unprecedented 6th straight Tour de France this month and the 8th day of the Tour is tomorrow. The Tour de France is considered the greatest, most grueling physical test of human strength and endurance in the world and in France, it is their Super Bowl and MLB World Series all wrapped up in one. Other than a skier or two, road bike racers are God like there and the entire country follows the race during the three weeks of it's event. Sixth straight But to me and others it's means something also that I feel very strong about, something I hold dear to my heart. I take it very personal to hold onto and remember and respect the sacrifices so many has made in this country so that you and I can live a very good life and have the best of opportunities that exist on earth. I feel it is my personal responsibility to remind my children when it's time, of the sacrifices our forefathers and our veterans paid for us all and I tell any member of the greatest generation I meet thankyou whenever I can. What does this have to do with Mr. Armstrongs' accomplishments? Everything. Today we drove out west to meet up with friends of our family who drove down from Kansas to visit. They are all huge K State alumns as a matter of fact and follow the Wildcats every year. But their daughter told us tonight at dinner about her recent return from 10 days spent in........FRANCE and I was blown away at what she had to say. One of her summer fashion classes took a trip to Paris and said that every other frenchmen they would encounter on the street were rude as hell to them, even going to the point of actually telling them in their best english to "go home!". They got on the main subway one day and the conducter who they sat right behind made a loudspeaker announcement in french of course. No one in the group could make out what in hell he said but they all looked up and the rest of the passengers started laughing hilariously and looking at them. They said you could tell it wasn't something that was very tastefull because some nervously stopped laughing and looked away, as if they might have thought they spoke some french and were not laughing because they knew what was said. But she told us it was just unreal. You would hear people in a shop speaking english, and if you asked them something in english they all of a sudden didn't know english and would try to get out of having to wait on you. But she said the most amazing were the ones who would just blurt out, "Go Home". Now this is the third person I know of in the past several years that I have heard of the same crap happening. Maybe some of you know of someone or yourself having this happen as well? My captain and his wife traveled to Paris last summer and said they got some of the same stuff, but it appears to be even worse this year and I suspect the Iraq war and France' lack of help with fighting terrorism worldwide having a little to do with that? I am convinced the entire country of France will never give a rats --- about the U.S. and the sacrifices and blood it gave for them...twice, nor does it care that the U.S. again takes the lead on fighting terrorism now while France lays down and hopes it goes away . It burns my @ss to even think of the thousands of soldiers buried at Normandy whose memories are cast aside so easily by the country they died for. So since France will continue for generations to exist as an embarrassed nation whose country laid down when it counted and had to have the British and U.S. nations bail it out of two big ones, yet still remain bitter about it, and since it will continue to treat the U.S. as they do now with the recent problems, then it gives me pure pleasure to now think that an american, Lance Armstrong and his U.S. Postal boys taking the last remaining thing that France as a nation can cling to with any sense of pride, the Tour de France. Should Armstrong, an Amercian win a sixth straight Tour he becomes KING(of FRANCE) of the road so to speak, and Frenchmen for generations to come will have to look up and see who owns them in each and every way including their beloved little bike race.
