  1. Stebo posted some info here a few years ago about it and the guy who wrote the movie had never even been to Texas much less heard of Denton Texas. Rick
  2. The mentioning of Denton in the Rocky Horror Picture Show was a complete coincidence. Of course, we are to also believe Universtiy of North Texas' very own author Larry McMurtry when he states that "Lonesome Dove" was not based on the events of any real character even though the movie completely parallels much of the events during that of the famous Texas Ranger Charles Goodnight. In fact, Goodnight's life long riding/law inforcing/herding/indian fighting partner Bose Ikard is nearly a complete duplicate of that of the exact type of character, Joshua Deets played by the great Danny Glover in "Lonesome Dove". In LD, Deets was a lifelong companion of McCrae and Call and as I said earlier, so was Ikard to Goodnight. Bose Ikard is burried in Greenwood cemetary right here in Weatherford TX. He is highly respected and considered one of our earliest founding hero's here in Parker County, so much so that one of our newest elementary schools is named after him. Interestingly, Deets is killed in the movie and McCrae writes on his tombstone about his life, mentioning how great he was and that he "Never Shirked a Duty". Not only was Ikard African American as was Deets in the movie, but Ikard's gravestone here in Weatherford has nearly the exact same words written on it including the part about "Never Shirked a duty". Coincidence? Rick
  3. What in hell? So if they FINALLY win with that stupid offense of his which has blown it to several 1-AA programs...at HOME, then he's instantly hireable for a larger program? FAU didn't hire Schnellenberger with a timeline? They hired him to start a program from complete scratch and allowing him to call all the shots and take enough time as he needs to get them off the ground. Then out of the blue the guy launches them off the pad with results they could have only dreamed of 6 years ago. Do they do any research at all over at the SN? Rick
  4. Thanks for all the work Eric. Wished I wasnt on duty tomorrow to help you guys out. Rick
  5. Thank you Asst AD of Marketing and Promotions Paul Batchelder for the billboard. Rick
  6. The distance from Dallas to Murfreesboro is 629 miles. Or, as in my case from Weatherford it's 699. Rick
  7. We were in the 3-4 for the majority of the game against Utah State last year. It truly displayed the strength and speed of our young linebackers last year. Rick
  8. We would dominate in basketball for sure. Our facility has given us quite an advantage these past 16 years. Rick
  9. I know JI has taken a lot of criticism this last year from us, and I know the coaches have been very hard on him as well, especially this fall. But lets give the kid some credit, he's not a quitter and keeps on fighting for a spot. It's not easy being out there twice a day getting hammered on for several hours a day knowing your a place or two down on the depth chart, especially in this north central Texas heat. And even though Jonathon has struggled learning the QB position at this level to me he embodies the spirit of the Mean Green. The one day I watched practice last week after one play Coach Flanagin was on him pretty good, yet he came right back and responded with a better play the next time. Our team is full of guys who are in a learning curve right now but they all have learned how that for all of their hard work the rewards pay off for the team and the school. For this I'm very proud of Jonathon for hanging in their and keeping up the fight, for the Mean Green. Eventually he wll get his chance, he has too much raw talent not to. Rick
  10. Ventilated of course? Rick
  11. MeanRob has described what it truly means to be a Mean Green fan best in this thread. And to point out how little the rest of the state of Texas thinks about the Mean Green look no further than today's Fort Worth Star Telegram in which featured their annual 40 some odd page FOOTBALL SPECIAL section, covering every local football team from private highschool's all the way up through the Cowboys, but neglected to mention a single word about NT or the Sunbelt Conference. Rick
  12. Yes. Take and picture of it and post for everyone here to see the new helmet if you get a chance. Rick
  13. ...96, your killing me! LOL! Rick
  14. We appreicate the invite Crip. Rick
  15. While I will restrain from hijacking this thread by making any further comments concerning our ALUMNI and GROWTH , I have to say this is one of the best posts of the day in describing our current situation at NT. Rick
  16. Big #64 Jason May. He had every reason to tank it a year ago after not making the grade but a winner never quits. I'm proud of him for coming back strong and in shape and anchoring what may become one of our most memorable rushing seasons yet. O.L.P..............O Line Pride! Rick
  17. F I G H T ! F I G H T ! F I G H T ! RIck
  18. Booger's #60, he's not hard to spot. This is him at the left defensive tackle position, second from the left in white. Rick
  19. From sometime on or before '87 to '91 the speed limit was 65 m.p.h. through there, which meant everyone was driving 75 and 80 m.p.h. During that time 3 or 4 NT students were killed on those entrance ramps trying to merge onto the highway. Two of the incidents involved the students trying to merge on in front of 18 wheelers who couldn't move over or slow down in time. Someone finally pulled their head out and lowered the speed down to 55 sometime during the 90'? Rick
  20. Yes, that is a great idea but unfortunately it's not going to happen for now. They have already ordered the stencils for the logo that is going at midfield. And the logo they are going to use needs to be there for now to get it out and sell it. I don't think anyone will be dissapointed in what the Mean Green will be playing on this year, not at all. Rick
  21. That was an amazing show he put on last night. Surely all that talent didn't come out of the Sunbelt Conference? Rick
  22. What is Mario holding up there in that image, a PEACE and TRANQUILITY sign? Rick
  23. EulessEagle, we lost to Troy on a last second tip-in field goal in 2001. Rick
  24. Here's both versions. Rick
