  1. Not for Asu, but for ULL. It's a shame for them. Rick
  2. We have done this twice this year now, once against ULL, and now against Asu in which we place ourselves in a situation where it is obvious to a child and everyone else that our defense cannot stop a fly. The score is tied and we are up against our goal line trying to stop the inevitable with the clock ticking down under 1 and a half minute. When after the score we are left with little time for a come back. ULL intentionally worked the clock inside the 5 yard line and we kept calling our timeouts and trying to stop them and ended up with less than a minute to mount a comeback. Today, Asu was running over us and we kept trying to stop them, letting valuable time off the clock. It was obvious we couldn't stop them at that point. If Asu goes to a 4th down to kick a field goal, there wouldn't have been 10 seconds left. So why not let them score from the 3 and have 1:00 left on the clock with one timeout remaining to work with instead of 30 seconds and no timeouts? Greenbay did this a few years ago, why isn't this used more often? Rick
  3. Humph! is right, and a major shame at that! Rick
  4. And it's a complete shame too. They lost to ASU by 3 points in Jonesboro, a game in which they put over 554 total yards on the Indians, outgained them in first downs and time of possession, led 29-14 at one point, but turned it over 3 times an fell short. ULL then went on to win 5 straight games to close out their season, are currently by far the better team between them and ASU and would not only give their opponent a better game, would bring a much larger crowd for attendance. All they needed was for NT to beat ASU today to go Bowling. A bowl game for ULL would have been a fitting reward for a region that was dealt a low blow earlier in the season. A complete shame! Rick
  5. I can't get over the final step we took today in defining how pitiful our concentration on discipline is. That was the personal foul called bringing back Quinn's punt return TD costing us 7 points. After Quinn is 50 yards upfield, Brandon Jackson? and someone else has an ASU player on his back. The ASU kid was chicken fighting, and and our guys were too. But then in steps a referee. Both NT players are laying on top of the ASU guy and the ref is standing between both NT players legs, yelling at them. The ref then bends over closer to the backs of the two NT players, grabs them by the back of their jersey and starts yanking on both of them and also yelling. At that point I see one of our guys, not sure which, just keep popping the guy with his arms, elbows and fists. For the love of God, is it not obvious at this point the play has gone completely by and there's a ref yanking on your jersey? About the time Johnny is crossing the 10 yard line the ref drops his flag. I nearly pulled every strand of hair out. Then, to make it worse, both players finally get off the guy and comes jogging over to the sidelines (about the time everyone else is celebrating Quinn's TD)in which one unnamed coach starts to pat them on the back of their helmets as if to be congratulating them? WHAT IN HELL? Zero discipline! This game was sickening to watch overall. ULL, MTSU and ULM looked much better than ASU today. If we have one ounce of our past 4 defenses this game today would have been a blowout. The final 3 quarters was played with ONE senior on the field on defense. Our secondary consisted of 2 freshmen a, sophomore and a senior in Branch. After visiting with the team in person, I'm guessing our D line can't average more than 230 lbs? Give us one D lineman with some strength to push upfront and draw a double team and we will be a factor in conference again. I hope we never see another season with such a depleted defense again. By the way, La Tech got smoked by Boise St and finished 4th in the WAC today, if that tells you how far we have fallen this year? Rick
  6. URL=http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/local/states/texas/northeast/13255165.htm]http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/local/states/texas/northeast/13255165.htm Interesting comments concerning the new branding at North Texas. Now someone tell me how Mean Green football isn't vital to NT's image? Rick
  7. ...who can hit from inside the 35 yard line more than once in a while, real bad! Word for the day,.......J.....O.....B! Rick
  8. No, the blame lies directly with our AD dept and the university URCM department under the control of Deborah Liliart. They have made some strides in some areas, but what SE just described is an all too familiar example of the complete failure in athletic gear supply for our school. Someone is asleep at the wheel. Bill, save that flyer for me please. Rick
  9. The players are great, but I have yet attend an event where they were assigned a time to meet the kids and this is our 4th year. I know that the so called autograph session in August was flubbed up. The players didn't know they were suppose to stay behind. Still, all the players, when you can catch up to them are fantastic and the Jr. Mean Green Club and Scrappy's Fun Zone at the tailgating event is all my F5 can talk about the week of a game. The kids love Scrappy. Joining the Club is well worth it. Rick
  10. Wow, he didn't even last 3 seasons, and he didn't personally attack anyone in the stands that I know of? Rick
  11. That's even more reason to be proud of your accomplishments because it is so much more difficult to GO BACK than to continue through. Good Job! God Bless Patrick "The Emerald Express!" Cobbs. Rick
  12. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way Emmitt, I don't see how it could damage our recruiting any more than it did last year around this same time. Who did SE Louisiana decide for that head coaching job anyways? Anyone know? I know they were replacing Hal Mumme, but never heard who they got? Rick
  13. Can't you tell, he's looking up to snag his meal, a tasty Tortilla of course, as it comes wizzing by. Happy Thanksgiving All. Rick
  14. Stebo will eat Albino Squirrel if RF gets the job. This is purely a polite formality. Oops, excuse me, did I type that? Rick
  15. That is a sweet hat gk. Glad to meet up with you finally. See you saturday. Rick
  16. If so then I would assume the phone has been ringing off the wall in Denton with the offer to replace Mac with you know who? That would sort of answer your question wouldn't it? Hmmm, interesting! Rick
  17. I agree with you there Arkstfan, but excuse me for using your post here for this. I just want one "GOOFBALL" fan who can't believe, nor remember the fact that other fans have actually disliked our offense, even when we were winning, to see that even an outsider, Arkstfan, has noticed our dislike of it too. Mark, did you forget there for a split second who you were referencing earlier before you posted that last part? In '02 we led Nichols St by a whole 10 points going into the 4th quarter, a game in which Andrew Smith was allowed to attempt something like 6 passes. I'd take whipping the $hit out of anyone over 23 point wins over 1-AA teams and 3 point losses to 1-A Kindergarten teams, any day. Rick
  18. We saw those too. There were several girls from the Soccer team with them on. It's actually better looking than the Exes logo. Seemed more balanced and it did not have the star in the middle. And the logo, which was over the left side of the jacket, was huge. If I had to guess I would say the letters were 8 inches square? It really stood out. Again, thank you RV. Helmet please? Rick
  19. In comparing Tennessee to North Texas Tennessee beat #3 LSU in Death Valley on national TV. Rick
  20. Um, no. They were outlawed when the NCAA made it illegal to throw anything onto the playing surface. This became even more of a problem when Tech moved their stands closer to the field. In our case, that has NEVER happened, and never will. Rick
  21. th, The Spirit Bell itself weighs between 1200 and 1500 lbs by itself. It was shipped to Texas from Michigan and the shipping expense was higher than a cats' back. Then it was mounted on an airport tug that was acquired from Lackland Airforce base in San Antonio when they liquidated it a few years back. An aircraft tug is that funny little vehicle you see at the airports hooked up to the front landing gear of the large jets towing them into place. They are made of solid iron and steel to prevent getting turned over in jet wash and can weigh several thousand lbs. Before the NT Spirit Bell was mounted on our tug, the tug was stripped of every bit of excess iron and steel possible, then the mounting deck that the bell was mounted to was re-manufactured for a specific purpose. It's been weighed and parts of it have been added and subtracted through the whole process. It is heavy, but not nearly as heavy as that truck in King's picture, or the ambulance, or the PeterBilts, or the countless tracters and equipment that drove over the track all summer long during the turf installation. The Swartz' family vowed over 25 years ago to find the original victory bell that was forced into permanant retirement due to continuing cracks, a replacement. The original bell is the one that currently sits on display in the lower floor of the union. And after 25 years invested searching for it, and countless thousands of dollars spent, let alone who knows how much time invested, they found it's replacement with nearly an exact duplicate made by the original manufacturer of the first one. Yet the Swartz family recieves in return for their efforts seeing their investment(one of many) parked outside in the weather every day, and worse off, forced to sit out of sight and earshot during games and I have yet to see it's presence promoted as part of our traditions in print or on TV. NMSU utilized an opportunity to get a "College Tradition" mention in Sports Illustrated one year for their large bell they use at their football games. Not only is it NOT MOTORIZED like ours is, I doubt it is even 1/3rd the size of ours. We finally get our alumni who can, donate back to revive a lost tradition and we refuse to take advantage of it. To me, it's something that is very unique to North Texas that can be used to differentiate us from the rest. But we refuse to use it, or even show it off at the games when we are on TV. It blows the imagination? Rick
  22. True, and Brian Waters ragged-dolled the guy across from him all night. It was funny stuff. Rick
