I read in this morning's Startlegram about NT's Oral History project and their efforts to get those who were there that morning at Pearl recorded. Thank you to those at North Texas who have taken such an interest in our history by getting this done. This is another reason I feel our new stadium should be named a "Memorial" of some kind to honor those from NT who fought for our freedoms we enjoy today. Also, the paper states that the D Day museum reopened last saturday and is now open 5 days a week. Say's there was between $200,000 and $300,000 worth of damage by looters, but mostly to the gift and coffee shop inside. The museum did not flood by the way. Said all exhibits are now opened. A trip to the D Day museum is worth the trip alone to N.O. if you ever get the chance to go back. To those who sacrificed for our freedom, then and now, we will never forget you. God Bless. Rick

I posted a while back that he quit the team. Rick

To understand more of what Coach Bellard is talking about when he talks of "running an offense" instead of "running plays", you should read the other long article on TT's Leach on the Non NT Sports page. Rick

It's an excellent read. I would love to have his imagination for offense here. Rick

Chuck may be a great guy, but his son Curtis was an @sshole delux during the filming of "NR". He brought in two of his steroid freak buddies from L.A. to do stunt work. I had the pleasure of catching one of them stealing equipment from the locker rooms and had him kicked off set. Curtis didn't care for me much after that. Afterwards it came down to a face to face standoff between me and the thief and I thought we were going to go after it for a second there until our own Sydney "Mad Dog" Bradford stepped in. He turned and told Curtis and his buddies if he didn't like it to tear their @sses back to Caly. Pretty funny. Rick -
I hope their crying a river of burnt orange tears down in Austin come middle January after losing to the SC underdogs. Woo hoo, where are all the Trojan bootlickers these days? I might have to join them. "I'm an SC Trojan from way back since the day's of OJ Simpson and...., and whatever else that suck@ss Craig Miller could come up with". Rick

That is as funny as it comes. What a fantastic read into the Tech offense. God what I would give for NT to have someone with even 1/10th of the imagination and Can-Do attitude running our "Pirate Ship", as Tech has now in Mike Leach. When I was reading this I couldn't help but remember back to some of the offenses that Corky would put on the field to give us a "fighting chance" against the bigger programs. First time I had ever heard anyone doing this, I remember before the OU game in '87 Corky had huge speakers brought out to line the sides of the field at Fouts and forced the Mean Green to practice between them as loud as they would go with "Boomer Sooner" deafening everyone the entire week. NT ran several variations at times with much more confusing looking sets than we currently run. In thinking back, I never recall us having numerous delay-of-game penalties or having to avoid them by wasting a time out like we do now. Lord help us. Once again, thanks Long Jim for the info. Rick

Don't worry. Some bitching crybaby has succeeded in pissing on the memory of the '88 team and has finally gotten their way. You shouldn't have to be bothered with them anymore after this season. Rick

UNT- Where Do The Green Go Now ?
FirefightnRick replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
LOL! If I had to guess I'd name U of Oregon, the Houston Texans, Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins and possibly a few others might have outspent tU in facility upgrades. Oklahoma State might be in there too, not sure, but their new place isn't completed yet. Rick -
For $91 Million they ought to have a good team.....everyyear! What has amazed me more than anything is all the tU bootlickers. It's just too easy to root for a winning cash cow these days. Rick

Why? Rick

Give me your oppinion on Matt playing from the shotgun position? Does he play well in the shotgun set? Rick

111th North Texas finish on Sportsline
FirefightnRick replied to KingDL1's topic in Mean Green Football
I was playing along with the sarcasm thing when I said it's Fouts Field's fault. We had our best team in years in '02. We played everyone tough and beat C-USA's co champions in the bowl game. We did so with talent that was recruited here without ANY kind of new football facility. We have recruited talent in the past and done well with much worse than what we have now...ie Nelson and Fry. What we don't have now that we did have in '02 is a top defense. Did losing our D coordinator cause the drop off? Possibly. This recruiting season is critical for our defense. Rick -

I completely agree with 99.99% of your entire thread but this statement. I know what he's up against in recruiting, and I think he has done a good job, recruiting ie..bringing in talent in the past. But what he's done with the offense, is offensive. Averaging as the 106th offense over a 6 year period, by two passing college QB's from the past, is as I said, offensive. No other way to spin it. But right on with the rest. Rick -
111th North Texas finish on Sportsline
FirefightnRick replied to KingDL1's topic in Mean Green Football
Not to redirect from the overall ranking title of the thread, but since '99 our offense has averaged 106th nationally and I believe that includes this season. Can't remember what week I added that up? But our overall ranking shouldn't surpise anyone. Our winning streak was due to a good defense, which is what you muct rely on with our offensive system. I restate very clearly, we must find a top talent, crazed-manic type D lineman or we can expect the same next season. Rick -
No, it's our stadium facility's fault. Rick

I went to the Texas State game today.....

I think the "invigoration" has been a good, imaginative coach putting together an imaginative football program in a very short amount of time. Nearly beating Baylor last year, when Baylor routed us, then nearly beating A&M this year damn sure didn't hurt. That's what puts the mindset forward that you match up with the big boys. Matching up with them on the football field. Until Bailiff got there, TxTs had not had a winning season since the Reagan administration I believe, much less sniff a conference championship. So this winning this for them is new. Remember, this season features Bailiff's first recruiting class. Bailiff was the D coordinator at TCU who had TCU's defense in the top 5 a few years ago. None of this TxTs success surprises me in the least. He is a very good coach and was an even better player for TxTs. Neally was a D-1 QB. He was recruited by Houston right out from under our noses in Dallas and then later transferred to TxTs. That's what happens when you feature a pro style offense, you get to recruit pro style QB's out of HS. Which you can right off NT from ever recruiting with the style of O we play. It's sickening for us, but a great season for TxTs. Rick -

No, it's 33 1/2 yards from the field. To me, the new Denton ISD complex is the nicest HS facility to date in the DFWD region. Rick -

And No. 3 LSU, at 10-1 plays 9-2 Georgia for the SEC title game tomorrow. By the way, La Tech is now up 19-3 on Fresno with :41 sec left in the 1st half. Rick

How bout those Akron Zips...
FirefightnRick replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
I never said ASU wasn't worthy of going to a bowl game. I said it's a shame ASU is going and not ULL since ULL, at this time, is a better team in comparing how they looked against us vs ASU against us. It's obvious that ULL would represent the conference this year in Lafayette much better than ASU in most ways. To me, a much better match up between ASU and whoever they end up playing in the bowl game would be Akron and ULL. Of course that isn't going to happen, it's just my oppinion. And going back to my original post, Akron is an exciting team to watch right now, which to me many passing teams are. Another good game for them this year was the Bowling Green game. I for one appreciate the MAC and C-USA for giving me something to watch during the weeknights. I'll miss football season once the basketball season begins after Feb 4th. Rick .......3...2....1.... -
Dunham's verbal attack
FirefightnRick replied to Season Ticket Holder's topic in Mean Green Football
Oh, ok. They were behaving badly (in that particular section) the same AS the day of the RF incident which was the ULL game. I see. I apologize. Rick -
With 1:33 left on the clock and the ball on their own 19 yardline, the Zips go down the field using their tightend and tall recievers to win the game. The final pass was from the NI 36 yardline with 19 seconds to go and no timeouts left. Their reciever Hickson(68 catches 1147 yds on the season) got behind the NI defense and pulls in a post pass into the endzone. You gotta love those exciting teams who never say die. Rick

Dunham's verbal attack
FirefightnRick replied to Season Ticket Holder's topic in Mean Green Football
Not sure what your referencing there. No one in or around the area where the RF incident happened was behaving badly, AT ALL. Please get your reference facts straight. Rick
