Fun game tonight in Denton
FirefightnRick replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Basketball
No problem. Yeah, the guy I referred to was selling them out of the back of his car, 1,000's of them. It was genius, like when Bozworth sold the "I hate the Boz" T shirts in Denver. No one knew he was doing it himself. I suppose it's possible the same individual in Norman could have been tU connnected, but it's highly doubtfull. He was moving from corner to corner and left quickly after he sold out and none of the hats were stitched with any licensing marks. Since it was at a game against NT I am guessing is why he felt brave enough to do it? Who knows. Rick -

Were you drunk when you wrote this? Instead of a knee jerk reaction to this as you would have to me, I'll simply ask you what gives you any idea to think that the leading cash cow for CLC like tU would give an outside, private manufacturer who is NON CLC licensed, permission to pirate and sell a derogatory product with their protected logo on it out of the back of his car? Explain yourself and then I'll answer to the rest of your meaningless questions. Rick -

Awwwww, does the upside down horn sign upset you that much? LOL!!!!!!!!!! That's FUNNY, don't care who you are. I only wished I was the guy up in Norman who came up with the hats several years ago. He probably retired off of it. At least we know what side of the fence those in the photo sit on and we know tU didn't go out and buy a national championship for them. How's the song go, "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything"? Next, I don't think the red tent belonged to E but someone else who was a big enough Mean Green fan to donate it for the cause. Finally, thanks again to those who bleed green and stand for what you believe in... the only team that matters, The Mean Green! Rick -
Sounds like a match made in heaven then to me. He could be D coordinator and make a perfect set of book ends with the OC. Rick

We NEED some serious speed/size/bad-assnes at Defensive Tackle. Otherwise the only area Brent's speed is going to help us is at kick off returns......................all game long. Rick

I played for Coach Mills in high school and I hated his guts....Because he was hard on me and my teammates. And I loved him for it afterwards. That's just football and part of young people learning disciplne. I talked to Coach Mills at the Hall of Fame breakfast on homecoming this past year. I'd take him back at NT in a heartbeat. He looked as if he could go right now. He was part of some of our more exciting years and we owe a debt of gratitude to the man for all of the hard work he put in for us. Rick

Emmit, MedPilot and crew had the grill going when the F5 and I pulled up this evening to get things going. Good burgers E. And an even better game against the Cajuns. It looks to me that Michael Southall isn't full speed from his layoff last year but my friend George reminded me he would take a loafer with 10 blocks and 19 points anyday. True. Overall good game. 1-0 in conference. This team showed some maturity towards the end to hold on. They still have a ways to go but now they are on a decent run. You never know but this team could respond in such a positive way to do something really great? We'll see. It was also a pleasure to get to visit with one of our past hardwood warriors Wendell Williams. He came here from New Iberia LA in 1996 and never left after helping Deion Hunter and Tony Worrel take us to our only trip to the big dance back in '88. He's coaching at Denton High and also helps Hunter teach during his basketball camps. Good trip north tonight. Rick

TEXAS vs. USC--BIGGEST GAME IN DECADES
FirefightnRick replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
No, but considering the Startlegram reported in 2000 that tU's endowement at $6.8 Billion was second only to Harvard' $8 Billion so it doesn't surprise me. Rick -
Best bowl season in recent memory?
FirefightnRick replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Glad this Texan made your imaginations come true. Rick -
Here in Texas us non-sheep college football fans are used to seeing Texas receivers and running backs clearly fumble and lose a ball only to have it given right back to them. I agree though, the review process failed miserably tonight on both sides. Rick

FirefightnRick replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Like I said, one of the best bowl seasons in recent memory. Wrong team wins tonight but regardless great game. If I were a horn fan I would say that was money well spent..........finally after all these years. And I suspect we won't hear any more bitching about bad calls coming from the Belt refs, right? TEXAS vs. USC--BIGGEST GAME IN DECADES
FirefightnRick replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
Bingo! texas University in Austin does not in any form or fashion represent this 6th generation Texan. I hope they lose, and lose big, and in defeat again, I hope Young shows his @ss like he did up in New York last month. Rick -
Best bowl season in recent memory?
FirefightnRick replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Ken, it wouldn't matter if it was the YWCA playing tU, I'd be rooting for them to send Mack and Vince home crying on each others shoulders. Rick -
This bowl season is turning out to be one of the more entertaining bowl seasons in recent memory to me. Toledo routing UTEP, Nevada/UCF ending in overtime, Memphis/Akron going down to the wire with DeAngelo Williams rushing for over 230 yards, Rutgers taking Arizona State down to the wire in their first bowl game in many years, Boise State getting down by 24 in the first half and coming back to within 3 before losing in the Human Bowl, the Alamo bowl with that crazy ending in a close win for Nebraska over Michigan, Tech losing on a last second, carreer-long, golf-slice that after only reaching maybe 15 feet high, inches into the corner of the goal post from 46 yards out in the cotton bowl, LSU beating the hell out of Miami(FL) 40-3, West Virginia running all over Georgia in the Sugar, TCU beating a big 12 team in Iowa State in the Houston bowl. Then tonights triple overtime win for Penn State over Florida State. Two amazing defenses, but due justice all the same for Florida State for even being in this game with 3 loses and a 22nd ranking, to lose again in the Orange bowl with all the missed field goals. Now if only Southern California can do it one more time? Rick

http://www.lids.com/pid/20047434 They have it in white too. Kind of wild, but interesting. Rick

Does that whatnot part include the "whisper promotion" for the post-season conference basketball tourney we hosted last spring, or the day before promotions for the mail-outs for year end football games, or that email I got the day before the Houston basketball game last month just to name a few? Rick

Too much to list, but COLLEGIATE MARKETING and MERCHANDISING would be towards the top. Rick

I'm not buying the "speed is different in the Belt than it is elsewhere" bit. Two of the last three seasons the top rusher came from the Belt. The Cowboy's top draft pick, who should be up for rookie of the year in the NFL as well, was from the Belt and on and on. It's simply a lame excuse for an occurance that happens somewhere, every year. The Belt is just an easy target. Rick

Getting a blank screen as well. Rick

Where does the Sun Belt hire these refs from....
FirefightnRick replied to SouthernMissFan's topic in Mean Green Football
Several SunBelt Conference refs also cross over to other conferences. One lives near my station. I met him on a call we made to his house due to an electrical storm. I was riffling through his office area and look up and see at least a 100 videos and many photos of games all across the south region. Then I saw one from the N.O. Bowl in '01 and asked him if he refed Belt games. He said he refed for C-USA and SunBelt games. Can't remember his name but I hope he wasn't a part of that crew for the Alamo game. Still not as bad as the '88 tU vs NT game. Rick -
BOTH catches for TD's in the south endzone that night were bobbled and dropped. Also on a call that may actually be worse than those two was in the 1st quarter right after NT struck 1st blood and was up 7-0. tU gets the ball on their own end of the field, about the 20? on the ensuing kickoff. On the 3rd or 4th play their fullback takes a handoff straight up the middle and gets hit after a 3 yard gain. He's standing nearly straight up and clearly fumbles and NT recovers. As both teams start to walk off, including many of the NT players jumping up and down celebrating the SWC ref comes into the spot where the ball was recovered and points to the ground and gives the ball right back to the horns. The NT players just stand there looking at him, dumbfounded then start going crazy. You want to see one of the three top worse officiated games of the modern era of American Football, watch a replay of the '88 NT vs tU game. I have a copy of it and have enjoyed watching those I have shown it to stand in amazement after seeing the string of bad calls that gave tU that game. An english professor at Oklahoma State actually heard I had a rare copy of this game and called me from Stillwater and offered to buy a copy of it. When I asked why the interest? He said he had heard of that game from some officiating friends of his from their Big 8 years and said that any team that makes tU look bad is a favorite team of his and he had to have a copy. I never asked how he heard I had a copy. I do not make copies anymore due to the concern for the quality of the tape. As for the game, I was there, south endzone, goal line, east side, 2nd row. I'll never forget it. Rick

http://americasgreatestfan.com/ Check out page 4 of the "fan gallery". Good to see the War Wagon made his website. It's interesting to read Tony's journal and see how many times he references Tech's Mike Leach. Must have impressed him quite a bit? Tony will be done after the Holiday Bowl. I glad to read that he made it home safe for the holiday's. Rick

Excellent points as usual Arkstfan. Rick

If it's affectiveness your looking for, ie...a winning season again, you had better conjure up another top 25(or better) defense or this offensive system will continue it's usual ways. That is why finding a star D tackle is or should be No 1 on our list right now, and go from there. Anything else and you can expect the same. Rick
