We were down by as many as 16 or more in the first half. Horrible time to pick to have an ugly game. Simpson just got his third foul 2 minutes into the second half. Not looking good. Rick

"Let's Go Mean Green, Fight!, Fight!, Fight!" The cheerleaders still have our signs for this chant, somewhere? Can't understand why it's so hard to get some kind of a unified chant that actually has an ending, going. Also, counting in unison with each pass is very annoying. Also, I think the Boink!, Boink!, Boink! in unison with each dribble that the Pit crew did for a little bit was good too. Rick

I wished I could find some more of the full-sized bikini babe posters to hold up behind the opponents goal like we used to do. I haven't seen that in years but made for a good laugh. Rick

I went to the Texas State game today.....

Welcome Boko. I have to disagree on Nealy, he was easily a 1-A talent and could have started for many teams last year. And I agree that Bailiff is a fine coach and I have reminded many here throughout this past year what an amazing job he has done so far considering this past season was with his first full recruiting class. I too would like to see TxSt go 1-A and join the Belt when your able to do so. Rick -

If you haven't been inside the new Alumni Center you should stop by. It's as nice as they come and better than most area universities. This will be a great opportunity to meet up with everyone again and get it revved up for what should be a fantastic night of round ball. . Rick -
I second that. Great time tonight for me and the F5. Although I think he was more excited to see lil ADLER there more than Scrappy's jump house in the Jr Mean Green Club section. That's the type of bombs away, hustling, bustlin, swattin, reboundin I grew up seeing in the Super Pit. At one point we had a 20 point lead in the second half. Fun, loud Fun all night. It's killing me I gotta be on duty saturday. The Mean Green is gonna rock the house. Rick

DD always seems to keep it open when it comes to who starts at QB each offseason. No doubt DM will have the opportunity to win the starting spot this spring and next August. I felt like last year after spring practice that he had a chance to win it over Byerly even if Joey had showed up. He had a quick learning curve while having to run for his life many times during this past season. If he can harness the same poise he showed at LSU and fine tune his skills he will be tough to beat out. Rick

At least we agree on something, whether you believe me or not isn't the point. Nor do I care whether you believe me or not as I'm sure you can gather by now. I never even mentioned tU in the original post of this thread. The guy just happened to have their shirt on. Rick

Eagle D It's got nothing to do with my hatred of tU, nor does my pointing out students wearing others schools' gear on the NT campus have a damn thing to do with me not recognizing tU's championship as my own, as you think I should. It's quite obvious, that it bothers you, that I won't suck up to the longhorns. Cry yourself a river all you want, I'm never going to change my stance on it, so get over it. To me, it's embarrassing to see people wearing other schools' stuff on our campus. Especially on local news when we have fought such a huge apathy problem for so long. Students wearing other schools gear at NT has been discussed here on this board for over 8 years now and most do not like seeing it occur. It's why Emmitt started a fantastic program through Talons 5 years ago to offer Mean Green shirts to trade to students who were wearing other schools colors on campus, in order to promote Mean Green pride. And it was seen as a very successful promotion by many administrators on campus. Obviously, it's also not OK to administrators either as it's why RV immediately mandated to his student athletes when he got here that they will wear NT stuff when traveling to and from games and when on our campus if they wear any collegiate gear at all because he felt his program, the NT Athletic department, would lead by example. Read his post tonight. Notice the part where he mentions the "apathy"? He's talking about raising money, but the apathy in Mean Green pride was also at an all time low before he came here, thus he started making the athletes start to set the examples by wearing NT gear and not some other schools gear with hopes that the non athletic scholarship students would soon follow. Although I'm sure you don't believe me EagleD, I would have posted that link on that report had it been ANY SCHOOL sweatshirt on that kid, not just your beloved longhorns. Rick

I'm there for Thursday. I'm on duty saturday. Rick -
Well, what else is there to say other than, 'that right there is one of the reasons why I keep coming back and supporting my Mean Green.' I too have been critical concerning promotions of the bb team and I greatly appreciate the insight on that. Firing up the quarterly's again would be great in my oppinion. Thanks for the update Coach and know that we appreciate all that you have done for us in such a short time and most here feel very fortunate to have you working for us. Rick

NT student does a fine job showing the metroplex his true colors. UTA is just down the road, wish he would take advantage of their easy transfer policy. Watch video below from last night's channel 8 10 o'clock news report. Rick How to look like a bootlicker.

NT's endowment market increase.
FirefightnRick replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Keep in mind that NT didn't start it's endowment drive until someting like 1981? Can't remember the year, but it's not been that long ago. The low ranking should be no surprise at all. Rick -
http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/13690458.htm Posted on Mon, Jan. 23, 2006 TU is 4th nationwide in endowments By JOHN AUSTINSTAR-TELEGRAM STAFF WRITER The University of Texas horned the University of Southern California in the Rose Bowl. Meanwhile, the UT system also outmuscled USC in education's high-stakes endowment game. USC's $2.7 billion endowment grew by 14.4 percent between fiscal years 2004 and 2005 compared with the University of Texas System's $11.6 billion endowment, which had a 12.3 percent gain, according to a annual survey by the National Association for College and University Business Officers.Universities voluntarily supplied the numbers for the survey to the Washington-based group, which has a membership that represents more than 2,500 colleges and universities. The UT system -- the largest public university endowment in the nation -- ranked fourth overall, topped only by Harvard, Yale and Stanford universities, in that order. Princeton University ranked fifth. "I think we had a very good year, but not a great year," said Bob Boldt, who heads The University of Texas Investment Management Co., which manages the system's investments. "It's still true that the larger endowments performed better than the smaller endowments." Boldt attributed that to the willingness and ability of large investors to put their money into alternative investments such as hedge funds and private-equity firms. Endowments are one of the three primary revenue sources for colleges and universities. The other two are public funds and tuition. Healthy endowments are important because universities typically spend about 5 percent of their endowments on scholarships, endowed chairs, professorships and programs, said Brent Davison, University of North Texas vice president for advancement. Davison characterized UNT's endowment growth as "above average." "The market was good to us," Davidson said. "We had about $8.4 million in gifts [in 2005] that went to endowments." The Texas A&M University System and Foundations ranked ninth, with a nearly $5 billion endowment and a 13.5 percent growth rate. Rice University, which has $750,000 endowment dollars per student, was the only other Texas university among the Top 50, with a No. 19 ranking, an endowment of $3.6 billion and a 9.3 percent growth rate. Nationally, endowments dropped an average of 9 percent in 2001 and 3.6 percent in 2002. The change in endowments among the 746 schools in the latest survey averaged 9.3 percent, according to a NACUBO spokesman. The rate of growth for the past decade was 9.3 percent as well, said NACUBO spokesman Damon Manetta. The percent change in growth did not represent the rate of return on investment: It represented the endowment's change in market value between fiscal year-end 2004 and fiscal year-end 2005. "The markets have improved dramatically since the early part of this decade," said Dick Hoban, assistant treasurer for Texas Christian University, adding that TCU's endowment briefly hit $1 billion in 2000. "Now, we're almost back to a billion. We're almost back to the point we were." Texas Wesleyan University did not appear in the NACUBO survey, but the university provided endowment figures to the Star-Telegram. As of May 31, 2005, its endowment was $40 million, according to William Bleibdrey, vice president, finance and administration. That represented a 2.3 percent increase. The university's historic endowment high was $44 million in 2000. It dropped as low as $37 million in 2002, according to Bleibdrey. While the UT system and A&M charted healthy gains, Boldt said that in terms of assets per student, even the richest public universities will never catch the top private schools. Nationally, the average independent university has $111,629 dollars in endowment assets per student; the average public university has $17,195 per student, according to the NACUBO study. The UT system has $85,510 in asset dollars per student, while the best-endowed public university, Virginia Military Institute, has $221,485 per student, Boldt said. In contrast, Rockefeller University, a private school with 193 students, has $8 million per student. The study showed that Princeton has $1.7 million per student; Yale $1.4 million; and Harvard $1.3 million, Boldt said. Even the University of Pennsylvania, which is No. 71 in endowment dollars per student, boasts about $212,000 per student. Boldt said the UT system would never catch the Ivy Leagues and other rich private schools in investment assets per student. "They have too much of a head start. It's not gonna happen." There is a chart in the paper to the right of this article that had the endowments of many of the Texas schools listed but for some reason the link to the chart is not available here. Rick

Sorting out the crazy declined face-mask
FirefightnRick replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Got it. It just didn't seem correct standing there seeing the ball brought back so far. It felt like the personal foul facemask, which occured out of bounds would have been ruled as a dead-ball foul negating the offsetting, but the whistle wasn't that quick to call him out yet I suppose. Possibly that was what our coaches were argueing over. It cerainly doesn't seem fair, otherwise you can continue to tee off with late hits, yank a face mask or whatever if you see the first foul occur after post-possession, and actually get away with a free foul if the interception is advanced your way from the 1st foul, which they did? The block in the back was incidental at best due to the quick action of the interception and the reciever, and I believe Jamal Branch, collided in a way that it looked as if Jamal might have gotten the back half of the recievers shoulder . But the face mask was really bad and Weathers was lucky he wasn't severely injured. Rick
