  1. By getting blown out in the Birmingham Bowl 31-10 by 7-6 Auburn? Rick
  2. Something Seth Littrell and Justin Fuente’ head coaching careers have in common. They both managed to give up leads late in the game to the same 4-8 Old Dominion team in 2018, with NT giving up 10 points in the 4th and VT giving up 28. Rick
  3. Seth Littrell can never be compared to Colby Carthel. Rick
  4. Don’t know where your getting that,…SFA didn’t start playing WAC games till ‘21 and conference affiliation till this year and went 3-1, although they were not eligible for the championship. At least I think that’s how it reads? Regardless they were caught in the middle of the Covid mess, plus a crazy transitional period that spanned more than one season. Notice that they had to play ACU twice this year, and finished 6-5 overall. If you’ll listen to his interview above he explains it better. In 2020, his 2nd year they had no conference, so he signed them up to play 4 FBS teams. Lost by 10 to UTEP, lost by 14 to UTSA and blown out by Memphis & SMU but still finished 6-4. In 2021 they finished 8-4 including a 28-24 loss at Texas Tech, a 1 point loss against #1 Sam and an OT loss in the playoffs to UIW. Rick
  5. Nope! He had been there for two seasons, going 10-2 and winning the Lone Star Conference Championship in his first year in ‘05, followed by an 11-2 season the next in ‘06. WT was truly starting to get great crowds for a DII program then, and one of the following seasons after, and while hosting a homecoming game vs Tarleton St, Donny learned the opposing head coach’s wife was battling cancer, and during half time had several of his own players walk up and down the aisles of their stadium asking for donations for her. Thats the kind of people the Carthels are, winners on and off the field. They understand the importance of supporting the community they work in and the need of having that community support them back. “Eastern New MexicoEdit In 1985 Carthel took over head coaching duties at his alma mater Eastern New Mexico. In his seven seasons the Greyhounds had only one losing season. After a 5–5 record in Carthel's initial season, the Greyhounds were 8–3 in 1986 and 9–2 in '87. They were 2–8 in 1988, but followed with records of 7–3, 6–4 and 7–3–1. In five of Carthel's seven years, the Greyhounds were ranked in the Division II Top 20 Poll. In 1991, the ENMU won the Lone Star Conference championship. Carthel was inducted into the ENMU Hall of Fame in 2001. Having reached the pinnacle of his career as a head coach, Carthel chose to retire at age 39, and moved back to the family farm in Friona, Texas.[1] He took a pause from football coaching for nine years, before becoming a volunteer coach at Abilene Christian University under head coach Gary Gaines in 2000. Trying to become a head coach again, Carthel applied for the vacant West Texas A&M job in late 2001, but athletic director Ed Harris opted for Ronnie Jones.[2] In 2004 Carthel was named the head coach and general manager of the Amarillo Dusters in their inaugural season in the Intense Football League. Amarillo posted a 15–3 record under Carthel and won the IFL Championship that year. West Texas A&MEdit West Texas A&M fired Jones after three unsuccessful seasons, thus Carthel applied for the job again. This time, he was selected as head coach. In his first year, he guided the school to its first Lone Star Conference Championship in 19 years. He then compiled a 33–5 record, which is the highest winning percentage of any West Texas A&M coach since Alonzo P. George's 3–0 record in 1918. As of 2008, only Joe Kerbel (68–42–1) and Frank Kimbrough (54–52–2) won more games for West Texas A&M than Carthel. He also hired his son Colby Carthel as the Defensive coordinator in 2006.[3]” Rick
  6. Agree. Certainly can’t hurt to ask, which we failed to do regarding his dad before hiring Dodge. Rick
  7. We must get this hire right. WE MUST! Bring in another P5 guy who when things don’t go as planned will look down his nose at what he doesn’t have compared to his prior job, or who has never built a program and won, or a bland personality that has never had to sell his previous school to anyone to get what he needs and you’ll set us back to 2015. @SilverEagle and his 50 plus years of Mean Green fandom will tell you the truth, we have a unique culture here that the next guy must appreciate and be willing to buy into. Take 11 or so minutes and listen to this interview. This is the “Type” we need. Has built winning football, has won a national championship, sells hiimself, sells his school, sells his community and born and raised in Texas and lives and breaths Texas football culture. In regards to his players: “We wanna put a ring on their hand and a degree in the other!” Rick
  8. @Duck_Mav Get ready, we’re coming for ya! Rick
  9. …Tarrant County Courthouse in downtown Fort Worth tonight! Sometimes, we just gotta do what we gotta do. Go Mean Green! Rick
  10. If I live to 100 I’ll never forget the smell that wafted across the bar room when we pulled it out of the microwave. Rick
  11. You do remember who prepared the last one, right? Rick
  12. No, I was in the southeast corner of the south endzone chasing embers from Boomer(we used to pack it with newspapers to increase the concussion) when the melee encircled me. “I thought I was gonna die…or worse!” Rick
  13. Found this in my all my junk as well. The fun thing about this Mean Green win over smu in ‘06 was that SMU defensive end Lucky DeLay went on to coach my son at Weatherford, helping the Roos return to the playoffs for the first time in 11 seasons, and at the start of each season I got to remind him who won in ‘06. Rick
  14. I was there. Two years after throwing for 400 yards against Texas, Davis ran for 201 against smu. That was one of the interesting aspects of Corky’s offenses. Rick
  15. I will miss Brett Tulloss as well as Carlos Leal(standing two to the left of Brett here), who we lost back in ‘18. Those two knew more sports trivia than anyone I ever knew. I once told them while we were all at a bar if they didn’t shut up talking so much nerdy sports trivia we were never gonna get laid. I had to post this pic from the Daily I remembered having which had them both at a game at Fouts. When Brett started covering local HS football teams for the DRC I would go with him to spot and do stats. One time we nearly froze half to death in a blizzard in an open press box at Mineral Well’s old Miller Stadium during a playoff game. Most learned that if you spent enough time with Brett some kind of crap was bound to happen to you sooner or later and with me it always did.. One of the stories I can publicly share…He once got the PA gig at Fouts for a first round 3A playoff game between SL Carroll & Frisco and he asked me to spot & do stats for him. And of course, from the very start SLC started drilling the hell out of Frisco and Brett was having to constantly say The Dragons did this….The Dragons did that. Everything was Dragons! Dragons! Dragons!, and Brett was starting to feel bad for Frisco and their fans, and he was chomping at the bit to finally get to say something positive for them. Finally, at one point Frisco put a drive together and advanced the ball to about the SLC 25 yard line…and Brett announced it as…”And the Racoons Are Scratching At The Back Screen Door!”…. and I looked at him like WTF???? Suddenly the door to the press box swung open and a little old lady with a cane, who had to be in her late 70’s to 80’s stumbled in and started chewing Brett’s ass out something fierce for “Being so one sided and so damn negative to Frisco High!”,…and as she yelled at him she leaned over Brett like she was gonna start beating the shit out of him. Brett was so shocked, he kept shrinking in that chair thinking she was gonna smack him, and he stumbled and fumbled through what had to be 20 apologies trying to explain himself and she was having none of it.. I nearly hurt myself trying to hold back the laughter and not instigate it further. Anyhow, lots of good times I’ll never forget. RIP GreenBat. Rick
  16. This is great news. I hope we expand into DFW pretty soon. Rick
  17. Destroying it, one swim meet at a time. Rick
  18. I’m surprised they only set their minimum wage at $36k per player considering they are paying their running back over $200k just for this season alone. Might as well go ahead and cancel classes and exchange the cash for a diploma and call it the NFL-B league. Rick
  19. I wished I could honestly say I’ll enjoy watching SMU and schools like them burn their athletic departments to hell as they slush fund their way through making a complete mockery of division 1 college athletics. But then I’m reminded what will become of North Texas as it attempts to keep up. https://sportsnaut.com/texas-running-back-bijan-robinson-lamborghini-nil/ https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20211214006082/en/SMU-Donors-and-Businesses-Commit-to-Multi-Million-Dollar-NIL-Program-for-Football https://iowa.forums.rivals.com/threads/stroud-drives-off-in-200k-mercedes-as-part-of-nil-deal.392444/page-2 https://sportshandle.com/jackson-state-barstool-college-footballs-nil/ Rick
  20. Thank you Dave. Everyone back home had a blast watching y’all compete. Y’all made us very proud and am looking forward to this event next summer. Rick
  21. Hope you get to feeling better and to see you at the games Mr. Herold. Rick
  22. Maybe I missed it, but when did SL replace Fat Jimmy Sexton with JT Hammons? Rick
  23. Hate to break it to ya but there’s a lot of people not renewing their season tickets this year and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the ticket office. Rick
