  1. Pretty good analogy.....kinda. Based on the same logic...we must go a little further down the road. We (UNT lovers) are working at a restaurant that only serves baloney sandwiches. Our emplyees can only make and serve baloney sanwiches for the most part, but came here to try to do better. And it seems at times, the only employees we can hire at our restaurant are the baloney enthusiasts; When what we really need are a few Steak and lobster chefs, Dom Perignon waiters, and a few fancy Butlers to light the ever so hoity-toity cigar. Most of those employees would rather ride the PRESTIGEOUS time clock at Steak restaurants as lowly yard lizards and busboys than come with us a try to make the greatest baloney sandwiches ever. That being said, our CEO cant find THE MILLION DOLLAR CHEF who would ever WANT to come to our tiny little Baloney shop....for the baloney money !! SO, if we fire the chef we have, the next chef has the same problem...and so does the CEO......we just dont serve steak here yet. But our tiny little bistro is being remodeled and we aint gonna be ridin' the Baloney Pony much longer !!! or we're goin out of business.... Just sayin.
  2. Quoner, many thanks !! right smack dab in the middle of a perfect perspective. This season reminds me of a date I had about 1000 yrs ago . All was going pretty well...eventually the talk evolved towards sex..Then BAM...she said it.." I dont put out on the first date". Being the young realist I was...I quickly responded " Well, do you put out on the LAST date". her startled look of " whoa.. you didnt' just say that !" kinda gave me the hint I needed to re-evaluate the situation. Obviously ! that WAS simultaneously our first and last date. And just like after our ball games, I walked back to the car spewing some new words for the moderators. So here I am too......I didnt "overly" expect alot going into the season...just alot of HOPE. I keep going...game after game....hoping to "get some" (wins !!)......DIDN'T HAPPEN. I'm now approaching the last date again. And if I dont "get any"......It still was a cheap date !!!. All total, tickets, gas, food, one new hat per year, parking....I'll spend @ 350.00 for 12 weeks of HOPE and a heckuva alot of ENTERTAINMENT. Hell Man !!...can't play golf for 12 weeks that cheap and golf's a helluva lot more frustrating. Instead of seeing 2-3 other guys throw clubs and cuss...I can watch 19,000 throw caps and food and scream right along with ME !!! Who Knows.......we might "get lucky" .
  3. Based on the 1st 5 games, maybe we should predict our wins/losses for the rest of the season based on our game average fumble/interception to point ratios. Kinda scary !!
  4. Is it just me.........I admit I've got alot of computer "ignunce". But do I actually have to pay to lurk on the Bama site ????
  5. This would be really really great for the Dallas Morning news; cause then they could put SMU on the front page in full color EVERY DAMN DAY with limitless excuses to do so. OH WAIT...they already do that dont they !!!
  6. If we can also utilize the no huddle/ hurry up offense along with the heat, Ohio should wear down fast (I hope).......but That can work both ways too.
  7. Yep, espicially since they seem to get the recruits right out from under us !!
  8. I hope we give a really good acount of ourselves..........and with a win, I hope you sent that quote back up to their message board !!!
  9. 2012, since you bring it up. My uncle coached at Bama for 10 yrs. I can assure you...and straight from the horses mouth, that they dont take unnecessary risks with their key players either. They kinda like them on the field....healthy as possible for as long as possible. So they can kick the ass off a team like ours that may have it's best players on the sideline due to injuries actually caused by a reckless coaches decision. Get it ??? You might want to look up Freddie Kitchens......he's one you could ask !!!!!
  10. I was not trying to belittle the product or the source....OR OUR FANS.... but trying to illustrate the bandwagon-tag along-fair weather fan types that dont go thru what WE go thru for our team at North Texas. Maybe I wasnt clear, if so, I appologize for being so cruelly insensitive to the masses. Personally I would love to have a source close by that would carry UNT stuff. It aint there !!! So, if I bought stuff at walmart, walgreens, any dang where other than Denton.....it would have to be UT/OU/TAM crap, and that stuff aint comin inside MY house !!!!
  11. The last few years we have all put up with the smartasses at work, neighbors, etc. Usually I've noticed that the talking turd addressing me is did not go to the school he claims to be a fan of. He has usually NOT been a lifelong fan, but changes teams based on who the winning team of the season is. Also, I'll bet he doesn't travel to any games nor buy tickets for the home games. On top of all that, he gets his caps and cheezy t-shirts from Walmart and Albertsons. The bottom line is....I'd like to think I help carry my team, than to think the team is carrying me !!!
  12. OK, then lets talk fantasy football. If a herd of jackasses (democrats) and a herd of elephants (republicans) played a football game, who would win ??? And why ???
  13. If I were the coach, and had choices: I would chose to drug screen all those guilty on a weekly basis from now on. Off season, spring training, etc. As the coach I would not tell who the players are, they call tell on themselves if they so choose. But I would warn all players (or anyone related to the team) that A permanent schedule of testing would apply to anyone who violates the drug policy. Those that felt this was too strict could vacate the team and their scholarship (if so applied) asap and leave a spot for someone who was truly grateful for the chance. We did not accept this behavior from one of our former coaches, we should not accept it from players either. Coaches and clean players have the right to expect a certain level of morality and trust each other to conform to that code. And the University should demand it !!! We have all made snide comments about the struggles other teams...good teams...t go thru like this. Right now, we are a crappy team and this will follow us around for a long time even after we recover on the field.
  14. Keep on leading by example. All these young "followers" need to watch us older guys and take the hint !!!!! We all do our share of lurking on this forum, and jump in on the GRIPING SESSIONS. The main thing is..... who is there game in, game out.....year in, year out.......and long after leaving school ?? We respect you.... KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON !!
  15. SHAFT, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT !!!!
  16. There is one factor that seems to be continuously overlooked. When Dodge got here, he only had a few days to recruit his own players. And very few players at that (as I recall). And these players we last on most other schools' list, if on a list at all. This season, he had the same opportunity as every other team in the country......which is only going to bring in FRESHMEN. They will not be Booger,Hurd, Kasell, Spencer,Hall, Cobb reincarnated. This years freshmen will have to "gel".....sorry, that's all we seem to have.....younger players. And they wont come together with the few jrs and srs we have.....Once those are gone, all the newer players will be very cohesive and learning the same things from the same coaches at the same time. Next yrs incoming freshmen will then marry up with this yrs freshmen and other redshirt frosh. I'd be very surprised if we dont start getting results at that time...Problem is for most of us..THAT'S TOO FAR OFF.
  17. 1. Some of you think Dodge isnt converting well from Hi School to college level. Reconsider last year's 17 day recriuting season and of course this year's 1st full recruiting season...what did we get ?? Freshmen !!! that's right freshmen !!! I get the impression you all expected ready made seasoned vets. Dodge did not cause any injuries, graduations, or "flunk-outs" either !!! He has had to put "bandaids" on most aspects of what he inherited here. Dodge was HERE before he was @ Southlake....and those kids ARE college players now. (some we know of well, some we dont). WE saw great magic last year from what most of you consider a less than desirable talent pool. Well, what has actually changed ???? After all the weeding out, all Dodge got THIS year is MORE freshmen...the upgrading you are seeing is from only 1 season ago and all that stuff was inherited too. The vets on the team have changed positions, learned from different coaches, and made leaps you guys cant/wont see. So give the guy some slack !!! And if buy chance he doesn't know what he's doing, some of you dont know enough to know the difference anyway !!!!! 2. Consider this. Is it even remotely possible that the spread offense is set up to put all possible options on the field at once. Multiple choices of run/pass/look offs, secondary decisions (not to mentions variations of personnel) as you can have for every play ? Well consider it !! I saw a fantastic improvement in our offensive line last nite and it evolved in 1 game. Yes we had some sacks, but the pass protection was pretty damn good..and I dont remember 1 illegal proceedure penalty!!! Vizza had to take longer looks than usual because receivers weren't getting open on long routes. Thus, you had some short route dump offs that you gripe about. BUT at least we had those options open to use (because of the time to choose). Drops are still a big problem....does that mean Dodge is calling the wrong game ?? 3 more catches last nite and Dodge would be more of a genius to you today. 2 less fumbles last nite..and guess what ? He's even better. Defensive line held their own........Booger Kennedy is out of elligibility.............let go ! These guys have also been challenged with unexpected personnel losses, etc and held together pretty good. No sacks, nope ! But Tulsa couldn't but it loose on the ground...pass defense or not, run defense was better than expected. 3. Consider this ! Riley Dodge may just want to play...may not care where...may have said "Dad, if I can beat this guy out, can I play that position instead of the bench?" Just maybe, Coach says, " Riley, you are a better receiver than this guy or that...and the team has more options if you are in there than waiting to play quarterback. will you help us/" Why not !!! I dont know but yall dont either ! Seems to me, Dodge's obligation is to the school and the team. Not to us as fans. But if he were obligated to us, I'd expect him to constantly evolve, experiment with talent, put best players on the field, adjust to injuries....etc. Oh wait, I'm getting that now. And all it cost me is a few bucks a week. 4th and last !!! consider this and reconsider !! Riley Dodge, great athlete or not, may not be the second coming of all quarterbacks for all UNT eternity. He may be a guy who came to play for HIMSELF .....there is no obligation to keep him in this neat little quarterback safebox to use for a future rainy day. In fact, our quarteback of the future may in fact currently be a soph or jr in high school . Dodge found Vizza didnt he ? We need to stop all the negative second guessing, and appreciate what we're getting to be part of. While usaully a lurker on this board...It's easy to see who the older vets are and who the kids are. I've been around awhile...but never seen more second guessing about someone less deserving of it than I have this last year. Stand back and learn...Like Fry said, "things are not always what they seem."
  18. Meangreensports.com now has todays game on the list. Hasnt been there till now. Is this gonna be on the computer after all ??? Or is this just a calander listing of events. Dont wanna pay for nothing.
  19. Maybe too early to know....but any info if this game can be purchased via cable from Kansas or maybe the computer feed on our Mean green Sports site ????
  20. What a waste huh......here's a guy who gets into the NFL and leads several stats in preseason (although that team didnt necessarily need him), At least he showed well on a good team. Only then to get traded (one day in Pitt) and then again to Miamai where he continues to be hidden away in the "talent closet". There seems to be a steady stream of players paraded in front of Cobb only to fail or get hurt and his team is face down in the mud. Enuff already !! give him a legitimate chance to sink or swim like the other backs are given.................worst case...........team loses again. What I'm fearful of is after drafting is over again, will he survive more of this crap ?? He needs a chance to really play.............if he cant, he moves on. He'll land on his feet !! We in the Mean Green Nation are tired of this disrespect !!! (dadgum dang-it )
  21. Tell them to keep working on it but in the meantime........just send us our refunds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And we wont worry so much about the inconvenience.
  22. I agree...I dont think the storm is a factor...............the camera was working fine when aimed at the damn cheerleaders !!!!!
  23. Nailed it on the head !!!! Our o-line personnel are fish out of water with a passing offense. They are slower and dont adjust to rush angles as well as needed. (not being personal here-just observation-I know they play best as they think they can). Our 5 o-linemen cant seem to hold out 4-5 rushers with any consistency. Our oppenents, with mirror images of our offense, do very well keeping us out. So here is my real fear........with adequate recruiting time this next offseason.....and even getting some of the best linemen out there. As freshmen, will they be ready to help us immediately, or are we still be another year out on development ??? We seem to have a super crew of receivers............totally going to waste when there's no time to find them.
  24. My intentions Are low (compared to yours). But they are realistic for first 90 days, 1/2 season...you pick it I dont care !! Your expectations are rediculous. I agree 2 games were probably winnable without the meltdowns in 4th qtrs.................but come on !!! ...........with the exception of those several plays...I saw some really fun football for a change........even Romo flubbed a criticle snap. I get the gas tank comment......disagree there too. Less tanks, less gas at the wrong times will cause the same stall out. I expect this to change also, and I hope sooner than later. I will not banter any further with you. I'll bow out as not knowing a damn thing about football....(although I played a long time and have a family full of coaches)...............but if you take a poll amoung people with a brain..... you'll learn I'm not too far off the mark.
  25. If I understand the above rant...........then I think you should change your name to Tequila Rediculous. Present and current admins showed starting with the RV hire and Dickey (while successful) along with the new athletic centers, etc that they are focussing on athletics: all be it 30yrs later than needed. Firing Dickey when he got off track and bringing in Dodge is consistent with our direction. We all agree that we are outmanned when playing these "larger" programs. But these agreements are made way in the future and it's a credit to Dodge that he came in fearlessly it give it a go anyway. We have been playing teams whose coaches have been with their schools for years...and their players..the same players since recruitment. Our coach has been with his players approx 90days....and he only recruited @ 1/4 of them (I'll stand correctable for the exact figure). And his players are recruited for the new format....he inherited "Dickey-ball" players. And I can assure you, future recruits will not be the type you would have seen if Dickey were still here. Current results are NOT the results of an administrative conspiracy. For your point to have merit....we have to keep losing on purpose due to some sinister plan. We are taking "baby steps" of improvent each week................yeah I know...we're still losing.............dont miss my point. David slew Goliath with one shot, and I'll bet it took him longer than 90 days to get it down !!!
