what a spectacular group of individuals. I just got off the phi e with my grandfather and he told me stories of his buddies, and his expeiences. He was in the pacific but that didn't sseem to matter to him. As he spoke of his friends I could hear him tear up a bit, he stopped talking and took a deep breath. He has been an amzing I spiration to me and it is always difficult to hear him talk about those days and those people. As a world we are very lucky to have this generation of people and as a country we are very fortunate to have experienced that kind of valor and level of pride and service. I know that they are fading fast and before to long will be gone, I only hope that as a nation and as ayounger generation that we do not forget their service, valor, pride or selflessness. Those guys deserve our highest respect, in everythi g that we do.

Fun game to watch, I love watching Frankie Fransisco pitch. I do wonder why with a better record than the Yankees, .5 games, why is it that Sportcenter gives us no respect at all in their coverage. It is the "rangers are trying to cool off the red hot Yankees" and no mention of the 4.5 game lead in the division or the fact that the Rangers have been on fire as well over the past several weeks... I suppose our years of ineptitude might have something to do with it, but come on...

Awful Murder
hickoryhouse replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Interesting case on the legal status of a fetus Hall pleaded guilty Monday to four counts of first-degree murder and received four sentences of natural life in prison without parole for the deaths of Tunstall and her children, along with 60 years for the intentional homicide of Tunstall's unborn child. The fetus, legally, was not considered human enough to necessitate another life sentence but was considered important, and alive, enough to sentence the lady to an additional 60 years. -
Will Riley's Speed Force Our Opponents Defense
hickoryhouse replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Heck Yeah it is going to be a benefit, we just have to hope that his speed will let him avoid some of the monster hits. That scares me, the idea of Riley getting nailed while trying to use his speed, could be painful. -
The most important part of the article as I read it. It seems very awkward that using his middle name during the election was taboo, but suddenly it isn't such a big deal anymore. How politically expedient The broad strokes with which some are painting the Islamic religion is frightening and narrow minded. However there are extremeist muslim governments that have the stated view of jihad against the west. These views and the governments that hold them, both publicly and privately, need to be taken very seriously and not overlooked. To pretend that they do not exist would not be wise and could, IMO, endanger us as a nation, and a culture.

I don't know how i feel abou t the evolution thing, I don't buy into the whole creationism thing, but the theory of evolution is still a theory. If it is presented as such then awesome. I honestly don't see how evolution and religion cannot coexist anyway. one is not exclusive of the other. As far as condoms in school goes, It would be better if kids practiced abstinence but anyone who pays even a little bit of attention knows that is not a reality in this society. If you want your kids to grow up and not have sex until marriage, then teach them that. That is not the school's job.

"To messers. Nehemiah Dodge, Ephraim Robbins, & Stephen S. Nelson, a committee of the Danbury Baptist association in the state of Connecticut. Gentlemen The affectionate sentiments of esteem and approbation which you are so good as to express towards me, on behalf of the Danbury Baptist association, give me the highest satisfaction. my duties dictate a faithful and zealous pursuit of the interests of my constituents, & in proportion as they are persuaded of my fidelity to those duties, the discharge of them becomes more and more pleasing. Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties. I reciprocate your kind prayers for the protection & blessing of the common father and creator of man, and tender you for yourselves & your religious association, assurances of my high respect & esteem. Th Jefferson Jan. 1. 1802." As far as I know this is the first mention of separation of church and state in any context, from any one having anything to do with our government.

I agree with CBL, we need to be above .500 in that difficult stretch to call it a success, we do need to remember that the Rangers are still not a good team, they are playing like one, but until they prove themselves against real competition, like these upcoming games, they are not a good team. But I think that is the way it is with good teams, .500 against good competition and .700 agains bad competition, that will make a superior record by the end of the year. Also at this point our only competition in the West is going to be the Angels, and the will be coming up fast if we start to falter.

Awful Murder

I think that was the point of the article, he broke no laws. The article was showing how broken the laws themselves are, full of loopholes. -
Isn't that similar as saying some states allow gay marriage and some don't? And as far as I remember the only federal declaration of free vs slave states was the Northwest Ordinance (i hate to use Wikipedia by the way...) passed on July 13th 1787, before the constitution was ratified. Other than that the separation of the two sides was chosen by the states. Congress was unable to actually say anything about the issue, especially after the British failed to end the institution during the war of 1812, because states were admitted into the union 2 at a time with the exact purpose of maintaining a balance of slave vs. free states. The issue was such a hot issue and the sides in congress were so eaqually split that Maine was not going to be allowed into the union with out admitting Missouri as a slave state, the Missouri Comprimise. I digress,

How does the FF&C clause apply to other hot topics such as slavery in the 1800's or Medical Marijuana now? Just because they were/are legal someplace doesn't make them legal everyplace. Not that they are equal in scope or importance by the way... AdditionallyI am also very interested in seeing how the FF&C is going to play out in the next several years, the courts are going to have a doozy of a time with it, and I think that it is going to end up being determined by the state in which the law is challenged.
