With the average life span of the individual getting longer and longer, health care is going to continue to become more expensive. There needs to be something done to try and help stem the tide of these rising cost. The best option is not Government takeover of the industry. That is all I have ... I don't know how to fix it ... but I do know how to play the drums....

I guess this is the right's opportunity to do what the left did in 2000.... bitch about crap that is not real, make up conspiracy theories about rigged elections. Except this time the election was won by a wider margin so there had to be something else to gripe about, a birth certificate. Le me ask you something about the WMD's. If there are not any then why have coalition forces been attacked with biological weapons periodically through the entirety of the war? Serin (sp) gas is not an abnormal thing to see come out of explosives set by the insurgents. Additionally, why are our soldiers sent over there with gas masks and other defenses for biological weapons? Not trying to get into the WMD debate, i just think that there is alot of misinformation out there about this situation, and the information that we do have doesn't tell the whole story. IMHO -
Legalize Marijuana ?
hickoryhouse replied to NT03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I guess my question now is, what are the arguments for keeping it illegal? Status Quo? Fear? I don't think that I have heard many decent points arguing for the continued illegality of Marijuana. -
Legalize Marijuana ?
hickoryhouse replied to NT03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
The D had been consulted Based on Tenacious Three International Guidelines.... the suggestion was movement to Hickory Street. Plae-Lo-Dee and Kid Flossy Fresh: Recycling representatives extraordinaire! By the way, your drinking progression deserves applause and a small amount of concern.. you start of poor but finish strong... we here at the Three approve of your style, but perhaps we should fine tune the delivery.... -
For the sake of argument... I have no idea why one would do such a thing when incorporating is relatively easy. However, incorporating makes infusing an individual owner's capital a little more difficult as the accounting is more precise and there is more to keep track of. The advantage of filing as an individual when the company is in its infancy is that as an individual owner you can control the money flow more easily. For example. Tom Hicks has plenty of cash however because of different accounting and tax rules he would have a difficult job infusing his own money into the corporation. I am in no way an expert but this is the basics of my understanding. I currently work for a small company that is only 4 years old and the owner filed its info for the first year or so before he incorporated. Additionally, I would argue that there are thousands of Mom and Pop shops, restaurants, and services that are single shop operations that this would effect as well. Perhaps they don't know to incoporate i don't know.

wouldn't they only have to push him around if he was a threat to get to the QB? Or on Running Situations I suppose. But on a passing down I dont think he will be very effective

Legalize Marijuana ?
hickoryhouse replied to NT03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I would say that Tobacco is the real gateway drug. Ask the Marijuana smokers how many of them smoked cigarettes before they began smoking Marijuana, I would venture the guess that it is significantly greater than 50%. Tobacco as a gateway drug That being said, i feel that it is a bad idea to try and legislate morality in any way shape or form. I agree with societal standards, but who is it that dictates those standards? Where are the cutoff points? I think that we have established those in the American culture. We are willing to live as a society within the confines and with the consequences of Alcohol and Tobacco. That much is abundantly clear. Those would be societal standards and they haven't really changed in the 233 years that this country has been around. -
Supreme Court
hickoryhouse replied to keith's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
The job of the Supreme Court is to determine the constitutionality of any given court decision or Congressional made law. The differences of experience and opinions of the judges make it an evolving ocurt however i feel that the original intent of the court is to do nothing but determine if a decision or law is constitutional. -
Legalize Marijuana ?
hickoryhouse replied to NT03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Incrementalism, which is what you describe there, is a flawed argument. First, just because it is legal doesn't mean that there are not laws directing how it is to be used. Alcohol is legal but are you allowed to go into work drunk? probably not. The same logic applies to Marijuana if legalized. Second, the legalization of cocain, heroin, meth etc, is a different subject simply because of the proven volatility of those substances, horrendous physical effects and resulting mental effects as well. Those substances are far more volatile and dangerous than marijuana. I do see your point, if one is legal, lets legalize all of it and tax it, regulate it and punish offenders severely. It is an individual's body and they should be able to destroy it how they see fit. But that will never happen. Third, How the hell did you get to odd sexual behavior and child murder? A bit extreme wouldn't you think? But I get it, take the argument at hand, make it as extreme as possible that way no one can disagree with you lest they agree that child murder is ok, only if it is your own kid of course. Right? These things have nothing to do with the legalization of Marijuana, absolutely nothing. I like a couple on the board used to smoke a goodly amount of Marijuana, especially during my time at Bruce Hall and living on Hickory Street... But I haven't touched the stuff in years. It was easy for me to quit and I had no relapse and no withdrawals. I never got in a fight while high, something I cant say about drinking which is legal. I would also be wiling to say that I helped quite a few local eateries stay in business during my time. so therefore Marijuana helped the economy! So if mre people smoked Marjuana then we could get out of the recession! Great idea, legalize Marijuana and say no to the next stimulous. We will ride the wave of YUM brand's unprecedented stock growth! -
Of course she is going to be confirmed, unless there is a major revalation about her past. That is what is supposed to happen. All of Bush's justices were questioned fiercely, some would say unfairly with the filibusters and such, but they ultimately made it in. If the republicans did not bitch then something would be wrong... But she is going to be appointed.

First, This will NEVER be an issue in this country. Our government, however fractured at the moment, is much to strong and the will of the people is to great to let this happen. Our government, whether justified or not, is an example for many developing democracies in the world and I feel that it will remain as such. To suggest that the current administration would leverage their power in an unconstitutional coup is labeling our president as treasonous when no such action has occurred. Pretty reminiscent of the other side screaming and crying that George W Bush was treasonous in his actions involving the war and 9/11 when no illegal or treasonous actions have been proven. Let's slow our roll a little bit when throwing around accusations of such a high crime as treason. I do not agree with much of what the administration is doing, and I don't agree with much of what the previous administration was doing in the latter parts of its tenure. The fact of the matter is that I do believe that both of them have the best interest of the country in mind when making their decisions. There are probably ulterior motives involved as well but on the whole they feel like what they are doing, have done, is for the betterment of the country as a whole in each leader's opinion. As to the Military following the Supreme Court's ruling in Honduras I think the same would probably hapen here. In this country the Military swears in with the following: The Oath of Enlistment (for enlistees): "I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." The Oath of Office (for officers): "I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance tot he same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God." No where in there does it mention swearing allegiance to the Commander and Chief. It does mention obeying the orders of the Commander and Chief for enlisted men, but the same can not be said for the officers. Our Military is here to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that would include a sitting president trying to overthrow our government in a Honduras style coup. -

That got me thinkin... If we do that then we still have Damp and J-Ho next summer to play with and we would have a core of Kidd, Dirk, Marion, Odum and whoever else we could tackle.... That is a pretty good group. a lot of forwards though, would that mean that Dirk would play the 5? That's not such a good idea IMO It is a pipe dream I think, but if we could somehow pull a swingman out of this, that would be great. Therehas to be a way to get a Jason Richardson from PHX? they arent going to be any good this year perhaps they would like some more cap space.... -
