  1. I like this quote... I think that is an interesting observation.
  2. Congrats to the Mean Green Men's Basketball team! Wish I could have been there, watching espn.com update the stats from my hotel in Phoenix is not fun, but I am still really excited and proud of my team. Wearing my UNT gear out here in AZ! GMG
  3. just to throw a cog I. The whole thing...... Democratic senators want to keep Toyota in question to boost gm sales thanks to UAW contributions?!?!?!? http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/UAWs-invisible-hand-behind-the-Toyota-hearing-going-on-right-now-85208332.html
  4. Just for a bit of perspective in relationship to the author and his views. Leonard Pitts Jr. July 7th 2006 - Pittsburg Post - Gazette Perhaps he didn't use the term "man made" but in todays climate and the current vernacular that is thrown about from day to day, he doesn't have to. In fact he doesn't ay it in this article either, but he does speak about Al Gore's movie and uses it as a reference to describe the events of the day. We all know what kind of Global Warming Al Gore speaks of. Sometimes tone and current events leave words out that can be easily assumed, the placement of the statement in the article says volumes as well; "Birthers" and then "Global Warming" the item that he mentioned first was there to strike a tone or to make an impact in the same way that the item that he mentioned second was. You are right when you say that perhaps he was taken out of context, that he never once mentioned man made global warming... however a 3 minute Google search on his work shows that his opinions are more in line with what I read in his words, than what you did.
  5. Karate Kid Remake starring Will Smith's kid and Jackie Chan...
  6. Great article with a very compelling premise. We can't seem to agree with each other politically so we don't believe the "facts" that the other side proposes. I liked his followup to a particularly poignant paragraph... He is right in his assertion that we are breaking down what should be logical discussions into partisan politics void of critical thought. However he is showing his own partisanship in his choice of examples. By comparing Global Warming to the 'Birthers' he contradicts his own point, as if to say, "see, look at all the facts associated with the global warming thing and no one can come up with anything to counter them. See, we global warming proponents were right all along and anyone reading this who disagrees with us is holding up progress!!!!!!" As we have seen here on this very board many times there are facts both for and against the occurrence of global warming and this individuals choice of examples in his otherwise, IMO, coherent piece, illustrates his contempt for those who wish to indulge in an open debate of the subject thanks to the volumes of "facts" out there that counter his view. The article is god in concept but the delivery, IMO, is just as partisan as the negative subject that he writes about.
  7. I like the additions that we made in the offseason, and outside of cutting ties with Millwood I am a fan of our pitching staff too. If the guys that stepped up last year can prove to be the real thing and not a one year fluke then we have a real shot at winning the division, or at the very least being a huge player in the wild card race. I still think that the Angels have one up on us, but we are gaining ground pretty quickly. I say 92 wins and a wild card birth into the playoffs.
  8. Sure did, saw the whole thing, now i am over it. Get him back on the golf course damn it! People's private lives are their own, even public figures to a point. Someone who makes a living in the public eye is of course going to experience additional scrutiny but he is human like everyone else and frankly his private life is not that important in the grand scheme of things. Say your sorry..... check Tell people you will try harder.... check ask for the public's forgiveness... check grovel at the feet of the court of public opinion...... not needed Play golf.... I'm waiting
  9. Yep, sounds about right....
  10. Seems like there is an option to pay no tolls, if that is the case then I don't really mind it as much. It is up to the driver to decide if the time savings are worth the tolls and if they don't want to pay them then they don't have to.
  11. See this is what the debate should actually be about. Reducing the amount of pollution tat we actually live in. Reduce the amount of smog that makes the city ugly, people sick etc. That seems to be a goal that everyone can get on board with, that peple can negotiate about. IMO the people who came up with the idea that Global Warming is going to end life on earth as we know it is nothing more than a Wes Cravens type, a real life Joker from Batman, just scaring people for their own sick enjoyment or goals. Perhaps there is a way to prove scientifically that we are warming the planet, and ad the point that that has actually happened perhaps we can find some place to agree as a city, nation or planet. But the facts are that there is no consensus, no common one anyway. These folks that are driving at this are missing their easy way out and their ticket to start pushing their personal agendas. Small bits and pieces. Who in LA will argue when they say the smog sucks, then perhaps you can get people talking and coming up with real solutions....
  12. Generally I tend to agree with the things that you post however I have to agree with "90" here. The whole Bush did nothing wrong argument, presented here, is just petty and not accurate. It just isn't that simple. There is plenty of blame to be tossed on members of both parties here and trying to limit it to just one, regardless of which one I think is irresponsible and bordering on petty. Quick question, how many years did it take before Pres. Bush vetoed a spending bill? Where did the money for the Perscription drug bil that he and Teddy Kennedy pushed come from? There were ample opportunities for Bush to do things that would limit the deficits (sp) that accrued under his watch and he just didn't. As we go forward in this country we will all blame people for the ills of our economic situation and partisan politics will continue to divide this country. I am ok with that personally, what is UT without OU, what is Ali without Frazier and what is the Democrats without the Republicans? But Bush?!?! That guy never met a spending bill that he didn't love.
  13. Perhaps I missed something then... It is the American Community Survey that I don't want to answer... either way. But thanks for pointing out that my paranoia wasn't needed. It sounds like the new ACS is what I was objecting to and though it is a small population sample, I am curious about its implications and its the way in which participants are selected however, due to the fact that I have not yet been contacted in regards to a political poll I will assume the odds of me receiving this survey are about the same.
  14. I know that it sounds weird, but that is all I plan on filling out also. There is no reason the Government needs to know all of the things that they ask... In fact as Flyer pointed out they are not constitutionally bound to ask any other questions either. According to My linkArticle 1 section 2 (with modifications from the 14th ammendment)they are only required to ask about the legal population. I assume I am therefore constitutionally bound only to answer questions to those ends. I haven't seen the census yet so maybe there are other questions that I will answer, but invasive questions asking about kitchen appliances, choices of birth control etc. are not questions that I feel are requested by the constitution and I don't feel ethically bound to answer them. IMHO.
  15. Everyone expects the Superbowl to draw viewers, I doubt that M*A*S*H* was expected to draw that well, perhaps it was more of a surprise, if thats the case I think that M*A*S*H* is more impressive.... I was not really coherent when as a TV viewer when that happened though so I could be really wrong about the expectations.... I do love M*A*S*H though and I really couldn't care less about the Colts or Saints... maybe I'm biased.
  16. Makes me a little sad, some records are just to surprising to be broken. At least it was a great game.
  17. Just for comparison sake Mediabistro.com (Neilson Ratings) Looks to me that you might have a point. Assume that we were to combine all of the other 3 "Left" stations that they list in the ratings and say that due to the additional options for viewing the left audience spreads themselves out to cover all three lets see how they stack up against FOX. As if there was 1 "Right" news station and 1 "Left"... Total day: FNC 482 Combined others: 398 Prime: FNC 772 Combined others: 579 I don't want to seem like I have anyidea how ratings numbers are calculated or even what these number actually represent so I could be way off in my comparison here. I am only assuming that there is no sliding scale here and that 1=1 throughout the comparison. I am pretty curious how this actually works however...
  18. The Winter Olympics are there to remind us how much we miss football and how quickly that empty feeling develops... Arena used to fill that void for me, at least a little bit, but now even that is gone....
  19. Thats a very god point, we can always continue to JUCO recruiting to fill the experience void left by graduating seniors. Good seasons will give us the star power needed to get better recruits and as that happens we will be able to slowly diminish the number of JUCO guys that we need to sign. If this does turn into a "sky is falling" situation and we lose 9 games next year it wont really matter how many senior are graduating, the new coach will get the same sort of leeway that Dodge did for his first year or two and we would be leading into continued down seasons anyway. This truly is a the make or break season, if we do well this year we can make up for the difference with JUCO guys. If not then we go back to the drawing board, plane and simple.
  20. I wonder if the Teegarden signing makes losing Hall sting less?
