Immigration Reform
hickoryhouse replied to gangrene's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
immigration is a touchy issue for me, I have a situation personally where I deal with the subject on a regular basis and believe me it is no fun. I don't have objections with this law as long as it doesn't require you to carry anything other than you ID, which you should already have on you... The real answer to ilegal immigrationis not in ID checks, border patrols, fence building or over excited militia guys patrolling the border. There are two things that need to happen to really even begin to effectively address the issue of illegal immigration: First we need to enforce laws that are on the books and implement the punitive effects that have been written with them. ID checks are a great idea, the racial profiling is definitely a concern but this legislation is at least a start. Second, and most importantly, we need to make it easier to come here legally! People that get here legally often spend 6-12 months going through the various different types of paperwork and approvals needed to even apply for a work / student visa. Once they apply there are separate hoops to jump through to aquire the desired visa and these can take several more months as well. If you successfully complete the first steps and do aquire your visa often times they give you only paperwork saying that you are approved but as you arrive in the country, or if you extend your visa or if you get a new passport from home the visa stamped in your passport goes way and that is needed for everything that you do while you are here. Lets say that you are from the Czech Republic and you are here as a student. Odds are you don't go home very often and if you happen to no longer have the stamp you can't. Immigration and customs do not have to let you back into the country even if you have the proper paperwork. It takes months to even prepare for the trip with the government and even after all that prep you are still not guaranteed to get back in the country. The complexity of the situation is difficult at best to describe, and living through it makes it seem even more complex the trying to sell the Texas Rangers. My point being that if we want real immigration reform then we need to reform and streamline the process for the people that want to be here legally and enforce the laws that we already have to keep those that don't wish to participate out. The entire immigration system here is nuts. -
Good thinking about the mixed stuff. There is a difference in fertilizer types for st. Aug and other types of grass I doubt that straight fertilizer for one or the other types would hurt but it will definately help to determine which type will grow better. Ironite is a great alternative. Helps a great deal for color but it fertilizes absolutely everything , weeds and all.

I have two knowckout rose bushes at my place, I have never done anything to prune or maintain them other than watering them when the sprinklers go off or when it rains. They do draw a few pest but they bloom easily and can be remarkably beautiful if they are trimmed correctly. I am working on trimming the old bushes that have been neglected in my first few years in the house and then tackling the roses after that. You can get rid of the pests with a quick trip to your local Lowe's and but a bottle of pest killing stuff.... As for the grass, St. Augustine is wonderful stuff if it gets enough light as all varieties of the stuff will decline without enough light. That is very very important to have success with that type of grass, although there are different types of St. Augustine out there that do better in different conditions such as Palmettobe sure that if you do go with St. Aug that you select the variety that will work the best for what you need. Be sure that your ground is clear of leaves and oak tree shedding pollen looking stuff etc. and that will help any grass to grow better. If you choose to use Fescue or Bermuda in the front I would recommend using the same in the back. The fertilizers / weed n feed used for each type of grass is different and you don't really want to put the wrong one on the wrong grass.

Wish I could have watched that thing fall over... man that place was a dump. Hopefully the new hotel idea hasn't been scrapped, I haven't heard anything about it for a while

Mavs Playoffs
hickoryhouse replied to MEANGREENMAN!'s topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
They will continue counting that record once the regular season starts... I think that he will make it. I can't wait for the next game, Mavs v. spurs is must see tv for me. -
I think Rice and ARMY should be wins assuming that we continue improving the way it feels like we have this spring. In fact my brother is deployed Spec. Ops. in the ARMY and he rarely has a chance to call home but the last time we spoke we made a bet on the ARMY UNT game. Let me put it this way, UNT better win that game.

And we get two years with this kid! Thats great if he can come into his own here we should have a great piece to ease the pain of all of our players leaving after next season. Still nothing on the blog about the Mcghee signing though.

Mkes for a scary back court doesn't it? Three guys with long range touch and the ability to penetrate?! I like this team more and more as I look at it. But don't we have another scholarship open now that Mangrum is leaving? If so we need to get a true freshman player at whatever position that J and Co. decide. We need to keep building with this thing and with so many of our stars graduating next year lets keep reloading! If we don't have another Scholly, then please disregard my previous rant.

This seems to me like an argument of do the ends justify the means....In this case I think someone had it right, I don't remember who, if he is in the field of battle take him out. If he is not shooting a weapon at our guys physically or in close proximity to someone who is we need to follow the law and bring him in. Perhaps that is not the most expedient route of disposing of this guy and the trouble he causes however it is the legal one, and the one that should be followed. As a citizen of the US he is entitled to certain protections, whether he wants them or not, and we should do what we can to ensure that the law of the land is followed. Besides can you imagine the information that we can get from this guy when we capture him instead of kill him?

espn still has McGhee listed as a UNO recruit... My link

the footage uploaded on 10-17-2008 he shows a great arm for the long ball, throwing a nice long ball 30 yards in the air with some touch on to the sidelines. I think having a qb that can throw deep is going to be a great think for this offense full of quick receivers.

I don't think that I like it either, I think it waters down the tournament, makes the regular season less important for the big conferences and makes things like the NIT even less relevant. i guess on a brighter note it would make the NIT easier to win if wehppen to win the conference but not the tournament.... still don't like it.
