Mean Green Football To Be At Taste Of Dallas
hickoryhouse replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Football
Definately best setup! -
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/basketball/mavs/stories/070710dnospomavstrade.11299a8b0.html They are talking about a sign and trade involving brenden Haywood and one of our back up point guards, jj barrage only IMHO, for jermain oneal and Michael Beasley. I like the idea and because Beasley is a talent but at a PF position that we appear to have covered........ I think we would be able to use him as a trading piece for another move down th line. Jermain oneal is a bit injury prone, a bit on the old side but a solid rebounder still and an effective scoring center. We would still need center help but he is a good inexperience dice option for us there especially if we have to lose haywood

Beer Sales At Fouts Public Concessions?
hickoryhouse replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
I say yes as well, We have been talking about ways to get people out of the parking lot and into the stadium, what a great way to do that! Beer in the stadium would get more people in there and then when we start winning even more people come in! If being around "drunkards" is a horrible thing then going to the game at all isn't really a great idea, you have to walk through the tailgating and the beer pong, then those folks actually come into the stands too... horrible. What about going out to eat at a eatery with a bar? There is bound to be someone that is loud and horribly drunk there occasionally. Far be it from me to question one's values when it comes to family and personal behavioral choices, but in this case I don't think that allowing the students and fans that are of age to purchase an overpriced plastic cup of warm watered down beer is going to add that element of "drunkard" to the game that people are afraid it will, that kind of drinking happens in the parking lot anyway. Hell when I was a student we used to create portable screwdrivers with vodka, the syringe they gave you when your wisdom teeth came out and an orange or three and carry those into the stadium. People have been drinking in that place for years, it is about time that the school and the student body as a whole benefit from it! -
I see that the 14-17 years are going to be good ones. Hopefully they will be good games and we can start a tradition of playing our local rivals! It's easy to hate that school but we need them at te same time there is no denying that when we play eachother stands get filled, and outside of winning that is what we need.

Mean Green Could Mean Good Things For Wac
hickoryhouse replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It is nice to be wanted... I wonder if conference realignment works the same way as girlfriend realignment, you know how as soon as you get a new girlfriend and are no longer single it seems like there are more girls out there interested than ever? Maybe all it takes is one conference wanting us and perhaps we can use the momentum carried by that one conference into getting asked out by the conference we want! Probably not but it seemed like a good idea. -
Any New Ideas For The Mean Green Tailgating Crews?
hickoryhouse replied to KingDL1's topic in Mean Green Football
The big green egg is awesome! By probably a bit big for tailgating, unless you are used to bringing a full sized grill with you, plus a bit..... It is quite tall. It is a ceramic grill/smoker tht runs on charred wood chips. It keeps temps reasonable, avoids hotspots and also works as a slow cooker. I have cooked on one a few times and it is amazing! Never gives you dry meat and keeps hot for a long time. Perfect for tailgate! -
I was there in September too! Wow small world indeed! I was not there for fun however. I was sent to work with a few hotels in the city. I did get to spend the weekend out there in a cottage outside of Pilzn with the future in-laws however. Not speaking the same language with them is a bit stressful but nothing a Budvar, a shot of Slivovitz and some old first pressing Stevie Wonder records couldn't fix!
-
Yes sir... It certainly does give Budvar a bad name. There is nothing like getting to drink a fresh mug of that stuff fresh from the tap. I had the pleasure last summer to visit the brewery in Ceska Budejovice and sample it from the brewery it self. fantastic. But we cannot forget that there are so many fantastic breweries in Czech, the truth is that any village of more than 1,000 people it seems has its own brewery and most of them mix up some amazing and tasty brew.
-
Budvar (in Czech Republic) Czechvar (in the US)... damn good stuff but the god people over at Budweiser are, and have been, in the proces of suing the god people at Budvar for the rights to the name in Europe.

I have to say that the thought of these two FCS schools south of us with such large budgets and athletics fees is a bit scary in the future. The author makes a good point, if we could get the WAC to take a few more teams in our region I love the WAC idea. If we can't I still think that the WAC is a better idea for us than staying in the Belt. Especially when Troy gets asked out by a bigger conference or when MuTS gets a better offer, both of which are going to happen. It is time for us to be proactive, perhaps the WAC is that proactive step that we need to take.... It beats waiting for a CUSA invite that might never happen.

What did we a erage in Basketball attendance? I thought it was interesting that the FAU line was saying that they need a new basketball place but they first need to fill the 2,700 seat place they currently have? Don't we draw more than that into the pit?

Univ Of Houston Making Push To Big 12
hickoryhouse replied to houstonmeangreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Great questions, but that doesn't change the fact that we have been doing something. Winning fixes most ills in sports as we all know and I don't see that changing any time soon, but it still takes time. Texas is a football state and Basketball will always play second fiddle, but JJ and his kids are getting plenty of attention recently and with the proper advertising and promotion next year could be HUGE for them! But to answer your question about attendance, look at the numbers when Ok State came in, what is going to hapen when Tech comes to town? What happens we we play a team that has a bit of a name behind it? We seem to fill those games pretty well. Maybe that is a sad commentary on the fickleness of our fans but that just seems to be us and believe it or not it is getting better, much better. UNT has changed its face dramatically from the time that I began there as a student in 2000. When I arrived on campus green was an accent color in most students wardrobes and UNT Basketball was a joke for most students. Now you see more green, more UNT shirts and hats and more pride about the university then I can remember not to mention recent conference championship banners hanging in the gym! Denton is starting to support their local school more now, I still don't think it is enough but that is another thread altogether, and students are taking the needed steps to make the university more visible to the general public. The athletic fee, if nothing else, should convince you of that. I know there have been tough times in the past, failed votes to fund athletics, crappy conferences, horrible basketball, horrible football, fouts.... But don't remember the only the past at the expense of what is shaping up to be a bright future! There are good things happening at UNT but like anything else in life that is good it takes time for everything to coalesce into what we dream our university can be. GMG -
Univ Of Houston Making Push To Big 12
hickoryhouse replied to houstonmeangreen's topic in Mean Green Football
What KRAM said... ditto Besides Houstonmeangreen.... How can you honestly look at what we have done facilities wise, in Basketball, in tennis, in finances thanks to the new student fee etc. and ask what UNT is doing?!?! that's crazy talk. Our Football squad is in a down mode right now but everything else is going great or building to great. There is a broader picture to look at here and UNT is doing a great job positioning itself to be a player when our opportunity comes, and that looks like it is going to be soon. All you have to do to answer your question "what is UNT doing?" is look across the highway from Fouts... There is a big hole in the ground with bleachers and concrete springing forth, a multi-million $ athletic center full of top of the line equipment, a fantastic soccer complex, great tennis facilities and offices filled with good, quality coaches and staffs. All of it shows me that "what is UNT doing?" is a question that has been ansked on for some time now, not only that it seems to me that they have been working on an answer to it as well. Your "my guess ... not much" attitude deserves a sight seeing trip up 35 and a stop at the Super Pit to see JJ and his guys play. -
I think that conference is going completely away....

I have to say that I liked the first movie... It was a fun flick but not necessarily a good one. I am hoping that they decide to make this.. but as of now IMDB has no mention of it...
