  1. Despite 90's inevitable and predictable negativism (though he is accurate about Riley).... I have a lot of respect for Todd Dodge. I am glad he is no longer our coach, but I have a great deal of respect for him. I think that he is a perfect individual to speak on this topic and I believe that his words should carry a lot of clout with college prospects and their parents. I hope that people listen.
  2. Ask that of the Carthage Crew that redshirted this year... I think those two are going to be pretty dang good, assuming we have someone that can get the ball to them.
  3. Here from 00 - 06. Went to 2 of the New Orleans Bowls and was hooked. Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas was greatness. Been paying attention closely ever since and got my first season tickets this year. I hate to admit it, but I haven't even thought about BB since Mitchell had his second season destroyed by Benford. As for caring about FB results, I probably do care a bit too much but I have gotten used to the losing over the years so the annoyance and disappointment still exists, but is significantly less than it used to be.
  4. Wasn't Todd Dodge a BIG winner in the high school ranks? He didn't win here.
  5. Thanks Chris! I can't make it this week but I will for sure be there for the next away game you do this for! Thanks for supporting the team! Tell Kenny I love his new spot, I ate at the other one and love it, but this location is even better!
  6. Not sure who Bill Mercer is, i don't think i was around back then, but screwed out of the job sounds either really unnecessarily harsh, or like there is a story there somewhere. I prefer to think harsh....
  7. Not to say that there aren't questions.... but how many seniors did we lose before this season? How many big time contributors? How many of these guys like Orr, Trice, Chancelor and Abbe are just going to be easy to replace? How many of those guys took several years to develop? Your post makes it sound like you just cal up a store to order these great players then these guys come in and are gangbusters... easy peasy... I don't think it works that way. We have good players here, and good prospects coming in, but when you lose as much as we did how can you not expect something of a drop off.
  8. The Carthage Crew will be big players for us for a long time. giving them the extra year to develop is the right decision and if DW ends up starting for us for the next several years they will be a tough group to stop by DW's senior year. Then after that these guys will still have another year and that can only help our next qb as he is starting for the first time. Long term decision with impacts felt years down the line. possibly.
  9. There has been a bunch of talk on the board recently about needing to put a higher priority on recruiting QB talent. I think that might not be as much the case anymore as we see DW emerge and we have high hopes for Means. Not saying that we don't need to try to bring a good qb in every year, because we do, but I think that we might need to place a higher recruiting priority on a very different position. Defensive Line, Ends and Tackles. Watching our D. Line against a lower level P5 school like Indiana made me realize that as undersized as we are up there. We will never be able to compete as a dominating defense if we are continually getting rolled up front. That line last year was big, strong and mean. They dominated O Lines, especially the later half of the year and during C-USA play. Our current group is quick, but they are small and get no penetration and that leaves our DB's out on an island due to the lack of pressure that they generate. Our D Line right now looks like this: DE 30 Roberts, Jarrian RS SO 238 LBS 99 Flusche, Andy RS FR 230 LBS DT 95 Lincoln, Alexander SR/3 267 LBS 91 Orr, Austin JR 272 LBS DT 98 Watson, Dutton RS SO 273 LBS 63 Moore, Sid RS FR 252 LBS DE 42 Polk, Chad JR/2 223 LBS 56 Dilonga, Malik RS SO 251 LBS i am not as in depth with some of this stuff as a lot of you guys on here and I don't want to pretend to be, but with an average across the starting 4 of 250.23 lbs I think that regardless of skill, these guys get worn down and run over in the later half of the game because they just don't have the bulk to stand up to getting leaned on all game. For comparison... Here is Indiana's starting O line: LT 78 Spriggs, Jason JR/2 307 LBS LG 68 Kaminski, David RS JR/1 305 LBS C 64 Rahrig, Collin RS SR/3 290 LBS RG 67 Feeney, Dan RS SO/1 305 LBS RT 62 Evans, Ralston RS JR/1 295 LBS Average across the starting 5, 300.4 lbs. and with just a brief glance UAB's line looks even bigger. We do a good job of rotating guys to keep fresh legs, we do see glimpses of talent here and the scheme is great from a great coach. But if you ask me we need significantly more attention paid to the DLine in recruiting. my.02. Am I missing something here or is my concern justified?
  10. Not so much a "loss" at Nichols St...
  11. Nope. Mean Green man doesn't cuss, I was with my father and there are children in ear shot. I may be a bit loud sometimes but I am definitely more respectful than to drop a bunch of bombs around someone's children.
  12. They are trying... There we were, Mean Green Man, me, my 67 year old father who came to his first UNT game that day, on the front row cheering and standing up and participating in the college football game time atmosphere for the Nicholl's St. game when the ticket wombles come down and ask us to tone it down a bit... Very disheartening to know people are complaining because someone is at a college football game cheering on their team like so many through out the country at other stadiums do. No worries though, can't let them get the best of you, I'm not that old yet.
  13. What an asset to our program! Love Coach C. Keep reaching out to the students, show some face on campus, keep building the support! GMG
  14. Thanks to coach Mac and RV getting more involved in the freshman orientation process I think that we are starting to promote that university atmosphere very well, especially when compared to previous years. When I got here in 2000 it was other schools t-shirt fans all over the place and general apathy abounded throughout the campus. As I went through my time on campus, a cringe worthy length of 6.5 years, I saw that begin to change and by the time i left there was plenty of green on campus, though not nearly enough. Getting to where we want to be is a long journey for this school, we have had setbacks galore and watcher other schools "pas us by" more often than we would like to admit. The Green Light to greatness campaign I enjoyed and the Eagle Express program has its merits especially when considering the skyrocketing cost of tuition all over the country. We need to find a way to promote the fact that we are providing such innovative programs to assist in tuition, but when the billboards you see all over the place are for football teams and our "Thousands Less" campaign is mixed in it makes us look chinsy and commuter school-ish. There has to be a better way to get that word out and promote the exceptional university atmosphere that is developing in Denton. Get kids on campus, get them to stay on campus or in Denton, which has been happening more and more, get them to participate and care about the school, make UNT a destination school for more kids and the better the tradition, atmosphere and donors will become. But it takes time.
  15. Coach and MeanGreenD: I think that we are touching on something that has been mentioned ad nauseam on this board, that the down years have really hurt alum attendance and created an air of apathy at Apogee. As this new generation of alums comes along with a winning program and great experiences, as I did in the early aughts and I assume a great many of the excited "Young Gun Alums" did, then we should see more excitement on the alumni side. It is a stoic side to the stadium, the alumni side, and I suppose it is not meant to be as rowdy as the student section. However it needs more spirited and vocal fans are needed to really generate a solid and real "Apogee Advantage". Being told to sit down and cool it shouldn't happen and eventually it won't, but it will take enthusiastic and ommited alums to make that change. Back to the original point... As for Greer's father and other player parents: I would imagine that a great many of them were not, and probably are not Mean Green fans, at least not until their child became a player here. His disappointment is very understandable and his frustration is probably very palpable. Hopefully he can deal with those emotions without being outspokenly negative towards the team or unfairly criticized by a fan base whose vast majority of members does not understand his situation.
  16. We are on the Alum side, front row even and we are definitely making peeps the entire game. However, it is a bit annoying and disheartening when 5 minutes into the first quarter after we have already taken a huge lead we get cold water thrown on us by a "ticket nazi" who asks us to sit down and not lean on the concrete wall in front of us. I don't know who complained, if it was a complaint at all or what the deal was but I am not overly concerned there. standing up at a football game when you are kicking butt is what should be expected and that tradition of apathy here is something that needs to be addressed. I will keep doing my part by standing up and being loud, even though we do stick out in our area. Perhaps is might get some other people to stand up as well.
  17. The Carthage crew have both been dressed for each game, but I don't think that they are going to get anywhere near the field this year unless something crazy happens.
  18. I do like what Harris brings to the table as a return guy as well. I think it is Kidsy's job to lose at this point but I feel like there is a good amount of potential there for Harris as well. Given reps and competition we might end up with a couple more really good returners in the wake of Brelan.
  19. I know 90 won't believe me, but I'm under 35, so are most of the alums I'm friends with, we all love the SMU series. I agree with jub jub, there isn't a team I'd rather beat.
  20. I enjoyed watching the qb get upset and run off the field. That was funny.
  21. I have a buddy who is going to try to make me some custom golf clubs by putting a UNT logo in the cavity back. I need a quality SOW & North Texas logo on a black field. does anyone have a file luke that, high quality etc? any help is appreciated.
  22. It was a valiant effort full of the pride befitting Mean Green Man.
  23. I thought the Green Brigade sounded amazing today! in fact we had a TCU alum who was attending her first NT game today and she was overwhelmed by the quality if the GB especially in comparison to the tiny smuT band. they were half ass, half talent and half as loud. the kids in the band were cool, self deprecating and understanding that they sucked... But the differences between the two were dramatic. this is coming from a drummer so grain of salt I guess... but I have been drumming for more than 20 years so take that for what it's worth. and btw, I love the drumline breaks. incredible
  24. 106 Front Row. Doing it up right or my first season of season tickets
