  1. I like Troy Franklin as well and feel like he will be a big part of the Mean Green for the next 5 years, but coming from a small school where he 1) played defense almost exclusively and 2) comes from a school that runs it 50+ times a game, there will be a period of adjustment and a significant learning curve. Also, let's face it, the speed of the 3A football game is s-l-o-w. I certainly believe Troy can contribute on the offensive line in the future, but I wouldn't expect much early on.
  2. It doesn't make sense that people on here (armchair QB's i.e. MeanGreenEagle) constantly want 'more beef' up front on both sides of the ball (which is totally understandable), and then we get a good report that this 6'4" 335 lb. recruit should be ready to go come two-a-days, and you post something stupid like that. He's a 3 or 4 star recruit for crying out loud, and he plays 'the other tackle' position on the offensive side of the ball. Hopefully, he will get in here and be an immediate impact guy on the offensive line, and will play for 1 or 2 years and get drafted. But I guess if he gets drafted, MeanGreenEagle isn't going to pat him on the back; as he has to graduate for you to pat him on the back... what a joke!
  3. dfn06 is being ignored by UNT Mean Green.
  4. They just showed Todd, Elizabeth, Riley & his date in the stands. Jim Knox interviewed him. Dodge said he wasn't nervous throwing out the first pitch since he was throwing to an All-American 'Catcher' in Casey Fitzgerald.
  5. We had about 15-20 people at a tailgate for the spring game last year, and we had a mini-bar set up on the back of an SUV, cops didn't seem to care. I'd say go with it...I am.
  6. yes...hello little Padron, and hello Jackson Richards!
  7. Congratulations to Riley Dodge! North Texas fans certainly have to be excited about him coming up to Denton to be a key component to making this football program something special. A side note: isn't it interesting that we have a former SLC QB on staff as a GA who's dad HalWasson is the coach at SLC, and now we have Riley and everyone knows the rest?
  8. Kid looks like a very good athlete with a feel for the game. He's certainly a solid football player. (not taking anything away from his ability or prospect appeal), but after seeing those short video clips, I question the level of competition he plays against. His stats are gaudy, but those other teams looked pretty brutal.
  9. Chase Wasson is an offensive Grad Assistant. Some of his duties could/should include: significant film duty studying opponents defense; drawing up defensive fronts for the scout defense that week, drawing up defensive stunts & blitzes for the scout defense that week, assisting Coaches Dodge, Ford, George, Gandy, and Leftwich with every day needs for practice; being in the press box during games as a set of eyes for the offense, etc. These are typically some of the responsiblities that GA's have.
  10. My best guesses would be: PS3: Colt Brennan, Hawaii or Andre Woodson, Kentucky X360: Darren McFadden, Arkansas wii: Spartan PS2: Brian Brohm, Louisville PSP: Glenn Dorsey, LSU (can't see it because of a newsletter banner)
  11. Myself +4. We intend to make all of the home games, all of the radio shows, and a majority of the away games. However, we do have a conflict with the Florida-Georgia game in Jacksonville...that's a can't miss and we have tix.
  12. What about the Offensive Lineman from Aledo who had a story on Ch. 8 News about him? Is he a fall walk-on?
  13. LOUISIANA SCHOOLS Louisiana Lafayette Louisiana Monroe Louisiana Tech Tulane NEW MEXICO SCHOOL New Mexico State OKLAHOMA SCHOOL Tulsa TEXAS SCHOOLS Houston North Texas Rice SMU TCU UTEP I think this way you have the obvious geographical rivalries, thus increasing fan interest; you will have regional TV; you have a good football conference, a good basketball conference, and a good baseball conference. You have schools that are in similar condition within their athletic departments. Also, when it comes to scheduling, you don't have many OOC games, or bodybag games! I'm all for it!
  14. Gilmore and Horton should provide one of the best Defensive End tandems in the league. Maybe reminiscent of the ones Middle Tennessee had the last couple of years, or dating back to the Demarcus Ware/Osi Umenyiora days at Troy. Those guys can really be game changers on the defensive side of the ball (i.e. Florida vs. Ohio State, 2007 BCS Championship). Coach Dodge speaks highly of Sam Owusu-Heming as well.
  15. Starter: Micah Mosley Backup: Cam Montgomery Backup: Lance Dunbar Backup: Jeremi Mathis We are thin at this spot, but I like all of the above options quite a bit. Mosley is steady and solid. He is going to keep the chains moving for you, and is a good redzone/greenzone back. Montgomery...well the verdict is out on him. Hopefully he is healed and ready to go. Flashed positive signs last spring. Dunbar is a change-of-pace type of guy who can catch the ball out of the backfield or even be a direct snap/reverse candidate. Mathis is a lot like Mosley, except not as fast at this point. Could be used in max protection schemes or something similar.
  16. I wouldn't be so assured to believe that 3 of the starting positions will be filled by returning starters. If I were putting 4 out there: Casey Fitzgerald & Korey Washington inside (Casey speaks for himself, and I like Korey's versatility and speed when matched up on LB's) Sam Dibrell & Sam Roberson outside (Size & speed with both of them) B.J Lewis and Evan Fentriss inside backups (Lewis is a good bubble screen/drag across the middle guy, Fentriss is an exceptional route runner w/ great hands IF (hopefully) he is healthy). Marcus King & Breece Johnson outside backups (King has outstanding size and is a good possession guy, Johnson has great hands and runs good routes) Stickler can line up inside, but I like him alot in the 'Tornado' formation role as a TE/H Back type of guy. DISCLAIMER* These are all contingent on the assumption that the true freshman will not play! What I like about it though, is there are many different combinations/lineups you can put out there, and all are good options!
  17. If I'm not mistaken, weren't those the drawings up in RV's box at Fouts? Love the concept. It's like Ford Stadium, and the back of the home side looks like OU. Love it. Practical. Seats close to field. Football offices in the end zone....this would be outstanding!
  18. Yes, and Riley has played on National Television, he has played in front of crowds ranging from 20,000 to 55,000; he has been the son of the head coach of the most storied high school program in the country, while also being the starting Quarterback for the Dragons...there's not alot he has not been exposed for a kid his age. He fits this offense perfectly, and will certainly go on to have an outstanding career in Denton. I know that he will be given every opportunity to earn the starting spot as will the other 4-5 QB's, I just hope that we can redshirt him and go a year with Vizza, thus spreading out the gap between those 2 by 2 full years, giving us 6 years of outstanding QB play...followed by who knows what! Anyone associated with North Texas should be glad to have the Dodge family involved.
  19. You sure like hearing these things from coaches who have been around these guys for the past 4 years! How about Royce Hill being the 6th best CB in the state of Texas! Akpunku is a player that wowed the NT coaches in Cedar Hill's spring practices, and sounds like is a physical specimen. Coach McGuire thinks Hamilton will play right away, and he is probably right. Cedar Hill has had around 20 kids sign Division 1 scholarships in the past 2 seasons alone, and several of those from last years class contributed early (Desmond Briscoe-Kansas, William Cole-OK State) so he probably has as good sense of the type of kid who plays early at this level. Great job coaches! Give yourselves a pat on the back, and then let's start going after those '09s (Rex Burkhead and Kris Lott from Plano would be a nice start)!
  20. HKS is the real deal ladies and gentlemen!
  21. Great job coaches! Awesome work, and you guys will do an outstanding job developing these kids.
  22. 1) Riley Dodge 2) James Hamilton 3) Alonzo Horton 4) DeWaylon Cook 5) Forrest Rucker 6) Justin Edwards 7) Kylee Hill 8) Adryan Adams 9) Desmond Brigham 10) Troy Franklin
  23. Awesome class following a 2-10 year. Shows what TD and his staff are capable of. ESPN was talking about NT on the lines with BYU, Central Florida, East Carolina, and South Florida in terms of recruiting...good stuff! I'd love to be a BYU, CFU, ECU, or USF any day of the week. All 4 teams played in solid bowl games. Wonderful job by the entire Coaching Staff. I'm going to give special kudos to coach Shelton Gandy for using his Mississippi ties and landing 3 big ones out of the Juco ranks down there.
  24. FFR...I bet Todge and co. will get more in depth regarding recruits around 6:30p or so. At first he'll discuss the process and how he got this great class, etc. Then the videos will come as the room begins to fill. It's a neat deal.
