UNC vs. UNT...not even close. It's apples to oranges. You have an athletic program that is tops in the country in Basketball, tops in the country in Baseball, has the funding of a major BCS school, excellent facilities, etc. You have another athletic program that is middle 1/3 in Basketball, doesn't have basbeall, and has the funding of a bottom tier Sun Belt school workable facilities, but certainly not excellent ones, etc.

The Mean Green did used to defeat ASU and those guys easily, however, times have really changed in the Sun Belt conference since then. Those teams/programs were not very good and used to get blown out on a regular basis when playing an Arkansas, Kentucky, Illinois, etc. Nowadays, however, ASU, MTSU, Florida Atlantic, etc. are much more quality programs that can compete with major schools from major conferences day in and day out. A lot of people want to talk about how UNT is not winning and has not won in a while. That is a true statement and I think alot of it can be attributed to the fact that the Sun Belt is a much higher quality league than it used to be.

I think Lance Dunbar will score. Dunbar will score on a long run, as he can outrun most guys on the field, even LSU guys. Riley may catch a pass, break a tackle and be gone as well.

I like it and will be there +11.

Rick has done an oustanding job since he has been in Denton, and will continue to do so. He has a very difficult job and is under constant scrutiny, yet day in and day out he works on improving the athletic department which has come light years since his arrival.

Good points illuvius. It seems that we have a lack of talent and depth on both lines, and that is the main difference when you watch an elite program play, or a program that is significantly better than us, i.e. Tulsa. We have to put a premium on lineman. Dodge is proven to be an outstanding recruiter, and we have gotten skill guys to put people in place for this system. Now that we have accumulated skill people in the Receiver, RB, QB, DB positions, we need to put a large emphasis on lineman and some LB's. The other thing we must recruit this year is a punter...

Ex-Spruce players find a home at Lincoln http://www.hsgametime.com/dfw/sharedconten...n.4a50ed47.html Donovan Bonner ran on to the field Friday night wearing a purple helmet scrawled with "Tigers." His familiar blue helmet, with the big red "S" on it, is somewhere over at Spruce with a bunch of other sports equipment that won't be used this year. Spruce dropped varsity athletics in June after the Dallas ISD decided to reorganize the school because of its poor academic performance. Sophomores and juniors were sent to Madison and Lincoln, and seniors were allowed to transfer. Knowing he would have to leave Spruce to play football was disappointing, Bonner said. At least at first. But last week the senior free safety said he feels comfortable suiting up in the colors of Spruce's former district rival. "When I got over here, they treated me like family," he said. "I'm a Tiger now." So are eight other former Spruce players who were on the field for Lincoln's season-opening 47-0 victory over Roosevelt at Forester Stadium. Bonner, who has orally committed to Colorado State, started with three other former Spruce players: defensive lineman Marc Leejay, receiver Daniel Mayberry and offensive lineman Phillip Cook. "I welcome all of them," Lincoln senior defensive back Kadeem Ray said before the game. "Talent over there, plus the talent over here, that's a lot of talent." The talent showed early. Leejay and Bonner combined for a sack in the first quarter, and Lincoln's first play from scrimmage was a 57-yard touchdown pass from Don Canyon to Mayberry, who has orally committed to North Texas. By halftime, Mayberry had caught three passes for 115 yards, scored two touchdowns and showed he was faster than anyone else on the field. Yes, Lincoln looks loaded. But three seasons ago, the same thing was said about South Oak Cliff. That was after SOC absorbed more than a dozen talented players from Wilmer-Hutchins when its school district went belly up. SOC then went belly up in its first two games, and the internal struggles began. The SOC and former Wilmer-Hutchins players never meshed well, and despite talk of a state title before the season began, SOC was bounced in the first round of the playoffs. Lincoln coach Jerry Sands hopes to avoid a repeat. "We had to do a lot of team-building activities and make sure these guys really feel at home," he said. "We think it's going pretty well, but you never know until you face some adversity." Class 4A Lincoln didn't face any of that Friday against an overmatched 3A foe. It was a night of celebrating, playing time for the backups and flying chest bumps on the sidelines. It's what Mayberry hoped it would be when he joined his new "family." "Not to put down Spruce, because that's the school I love, but there's more competition over here," Mayberry said. "We can be better than Spruce. I'm happy to be here." SPRUCE TO LINCOLN Four former Spruce football players, all seniors, started for Lincoln in its season opener Friday. Player Pos. Comment Donovan Bonner FS Colorado St. commit is big and physical Phillip Cook OL At 5-10, 255, gives Lincoln more size Marc Leejay DL All-district selection last season Daniel Mayberry WR UNT commit played QB last year

In regards to the black Under Armour apparel worn by members of the football program, here's something to think about: 1) it is included as a 3rd accent color in UNT color schemes 2) it (black) is on the the field 3) There are certain Texas coaches wearing black shirts on the sidelines, Ohio State coaches wearing them, Oklahoma coaches wearing them...there are plenty of more examples of this when the school involved doesn't use black as an accent color. 4) remember 2 years ago when Florida's team showed up at their nationally televised basketball game following their win in the BCS Championship game in black windsuits? Aren't they blue, orange, and white? Again, these are just points to think about...not trying to say it's right or wrong or whatever. I personally like and think Dodge and his program look very professional in their appearance, but that's just my opinion. On that note, did anyone pay attention to our 'infirmary' on the sidelines of injured players in black? I would say there were probably 15 or so of them in the black windsuits. That's a ton of injuries!!!

UCLA & Stanford...comparing them to UNT is apples to oranges. They are Pac 10 schools that have great histories. Not quite the same as a Big West/Southland/Sun Belt School.

The team is chartering a flight.

Thanks Flyer.

Hey guys- Sorry if I am out of the loop (or missed a post regarding this), but what time & where is the coaches show? Didn't miss any last year, and would certainly like to be there again. Any help is greatly appreciated. GMG!

Agree with the comment that anyone who has been to practice or a scrimmage would see that it's pretty clear that the college game is still moving very quickly for Riley and has yet to slow down. There's no question that he is a great nack for the position, for this offense, and has great potential; but until the game begins to slow down for him I don't think we will see him in action this year. Vizza looks even better than last year, and continues to improve. IMO, Tune should be the backup, and Meager #3. Meager still to this day does all of that running around backwards and throws the ball onto the track on what seems like every 3rd snap and it's painful to watch as we've seen him do that time and time again over the years. But, in defense of Meager, he did rip off a 600+ yard game last year and that, plus his experience of being a Senior could lead the offensive coaching staff to put him in the #2 slot.

FAU is starting one at 245lbs. Schnelly must be comfortable with that. It seems to me they put up plenty of offense last year with a 245 lb Tackle, and their offense involves a more extensive running game than ours. The size thing is merely a number and nothing else. The coaches are doing what they feel is in the best interest of this team, and this offense.

My weight estimate was way off, sorry about that S. Franklin! Hope that Troy is getting quicker in the process of gaining weight and is able to maintain his speed. What did he play at last fall for Celina?
-
FYI, Troy Franklin is not 300 lbs. More like 260 or so. Think we need to redshirt Riley in order to spread that gap of time out between him and Giovanni. However, if Giovanni goes down early in the year, pull the redshirt off of Riley and play him. Did anyone else find it interesting (slightly) that Riley was the QB in the THSCA All-Star game for the North squad, and he was playing against the South squad coached by David Byrd who was Giovanni Vizza (and Sam Dibbrell's) high school coach at SA Alamo Heights?

Here's My Starting Defense As Things Stand Today

It's amazing to me (but it's true) that things like a bad facility, disgruntle at a person in the Athletic Department or a Coach, etc. keep people away from supporting North Texas Football. As times have progressed, there are so many different areas of focus that draw attention away from the kids. We have 100 or so kids busting their butts year round, spending countless hours in the weight room, on the field, in the classroom, in the training room, etc. who are giving everything they've got to be the best they can be for this university. Coaches and the football staff are spending tons of time away from their wives and children in order to have the team prepared to the best of their knowledge, and be out on the road recruiting the best kids possible for this football program. Trainers are working around the clock to keep these athlete's performing well even through sprains, fractures, dislocations...whatever. The fact that kids would put their bodies on the line and play through things of that nature ought to be enough to draw fans out to the games to cheer them on. The band, cheerleaders, and dancers work daily to put on the best presentation possible for no one other than the fans that decide to go to the game. It's a shame that a sub-par stadium keeps people away from cheering on the efforts of these young men, the coaches, trainers, band, cheerleaders, and dancers. But as times have progressed, the focus is no longer on the kids. It's on all of the other business, and it's people thinking of every reason possible not to come to a game. I know that personally I am a die hard, and attend practices, functions, scrimmages, and games. Not everyone is like that, and I understand. But let's not lose focus of the efforts of everyone involved in the football program because our stadium is bad. Instead, go out and support the efforts of these people, and at the end of the day rest assured that they gave everything in their power to the University of North Texas during that time. *Now granted, I want a new stadium as bad as anyone.... **but Fouts shouldn't keep people from attending.

Good, realistic assesment of the team. There is a lot of validity in that article.
