  1. I don't think his full plate of talent and athleticism was being used at DT. He can definitely be a help in the running game as a blocker at TE.
  2. Classic!
  3. i'll be at Pourhouse. Is Dodge's press conference open to the public?
  4. Does anyone know if Riley is even going to be healthy enough to participate in spring practice?
  5. In response to the original post, I say you do not let him walk. You step up to the plate and pay him and keep him here if he's willing to be a 250K/yr coordinator or so.
  6. Is that picture of Canales and Grothe doing the "jump up and bump sides of the chest thing"?
  7. Great hire for the North Texas football program and fans! This shows the commitment to move forward and take the next step into developing this program into something special.
  8. There's only about 90 other programs in the country where the head coach is not involved in play calling on one side of the ball or the other. I'm sure those fans are wondering the same thing. Bottom line, this lets him be a manager/CEO type and that's really what you want. His emphasis will always be on the offensive side of the ball but he can be more focused on game management, when to call timeouts, when to go for it on 4th, etc. And I think you'll see a marked improvement on that regard with this hire and 'release of duties'.
  9. Good gosh yes! You never know though...
  10. Anyone notice the downfield passing in that video against Florida State? I know FSU struggled this season, but c'mon it's Doak Campbell Stadium and they always have NFL caliber athletes. Also, the throwback across the field to the TE in the corner of the endzone was beautiful!
  11. Not to mention, ULM did go in and beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
  12. Awesome. Great job by Coach Dodge and the Athletic Department to land Coach 'Chico' Canales! Very exciting, and he has some good talent to work with. Should be a fun spring to watch...
  13. All great points TFLF. I was curious if there's a list of players who certain assistants contacted/recruited on some sort of database (rivals or scout for example)? It'd be interesting to see how committed the kids were to the coach versus the institution.
  14. This is a very fun event for a North Texas fan to attend and get a glimpse into the future. I'd certainly recommend it to those of you who can make it.
  15. I would check the fine print in his contract with USF. My guess would be that if he is hired elsewhere, or the terms of his contract are not fulfilled, then he will be compensated for that period of time by USF. Bottom line, and this is pure speculation. He has been hired by North Texas for one season. He will be compensated by USF and North Texas, and could possibly make more than the 202K he was making at USF. Just a guess, but think about it...
  16. You never know with a new Offensive Coordinator (whomever is hired soon). That coach may decide a TE is necessary to get involved in the passing game among other things.
  17. At this point, nothing has been confirmed that I know of.
  18. That was his salary at USF. He was the 199th highest paid assistant in the country with that. You never know though, I guarantee North Texas isn't getting him for the same amount that Todd Ford made!
  19. Canales doesn't appear to be a guy who would take a job where he wouldn't have full control of the offense.
  20. Looks like it could be him...
  21. Don't know for certain, but I've heard this coach has been at South Florida recently, Arizona & NC State before, and I believe had a short stint in the NFL? I would love that, but we shall see...
  22. Southlake Carroll's run of winning 80+ consecutive regular season games back in the late 80's to early 90's. Southlake Carroll's 5A run during TD's tenure. ...and there's more.
  23. Not to be negative ned here, but Lincoln Riley does not have experience calling plays. How can TD and RV be assured that the offense will improve by taking another chance on someone who was not calling plays? I'd rather see us go get a bona fide 1-AA Offensive Coordinator (ie Appalachian State for example) who is going to move up the coaching ranks. Look at what Saban did at LSU in getting Muschamp from Valdosta State. Same type of deal on a lesser scale.
  24. Totally agree. He'll be a bona fide DC in the SEC or ACC. He did a FANTASTIC job in bringing along a program from it's infancy.
