  1. This would be excellent news, especially to bridge the gap between DT and Dajon Williams! I had hoped he would be eligible for this fall, but actually like better that he's getting to play in Junior College first. Does anyone know if he is transferring in at semester break (normal time for Juco's) so he can go through spring ball, or will it be Fall 2013? Great news if true!
  2. Hope that 25 gets a chance tomorrow! The Cowboys have a diamond in the rough with LD and all he needs is an opportunity.
  3. Absolutely agree! Great find in recruiting by Coach Mac and staff; and hopefully all of these young lineman who have signed in the past two years and committed for 2013 can learn something from Cyril.
  4. Sorry, MGS just posted that the show is on at 7:00.
  5. Said Akunne had some nice plays. only 1 turnover on defense wants 2,3,4 every game. Thompson so much farther ahead this year as opposed to last year. Not even in the same world. Really seen him blossom as a leader. Said physically we played better against LSU than we did against Bama last year. sees a team that is more physical a lot further ahead this season. Brought up Michigan Bama game and said he is changing the culture the expectations. Mentioned Frank Wentrich as a key in the offseason program. Said they were "sick" about the loss and there were no high fives or smiles as had been the case before. Said the team watched the game film on the flight back looking over their shoulders at coaches to listen and see where they could improve. Kept bringing up the culture and how hard they were working to change it. Spoke about Brelan Chancellor: Chancellor's play gave Mac so much hope that we can build this thing. Other receivers did not play as well. Brelan SHINED under the national spotlight. Very proud of #3 but needs others to step up. Says he doesn't say much but just comes out to play every single day. Special Teams: below average at best -- didn't name a special teams player of the game and usually do. Beleives and trusts in Kent Riddle but they have to do a better job. Thought George's son Blake had a good game at snapper. He said his secretary Mary Hardins husband Stacy is a referee and comes to a lot of their practices to help on any new rules changes. Said Dougie Anderson and Dave Barnett were calling the TV for Texas Southern Mentioned they do a Recruiting power hour on Monday night...thought that was cool. Macs never lost to a FCS DIAA team. Said there are quite a few players on TSU who could be in the UNT two deep. He said TSU would be very hungry and have a chip on their shoulder being 1-0 whilest we a 0-1. He said as good as they looked on tape at Reliant stadium yesterday they would be even better against us. Facebook with Poppy up next!!! Played Texas Southerns fight song as the FWP theme...didn't go over well. Damon wants to know how online performed: lots of positives...know how to play together players trust Simmonds...said defensive line was OKay...wants to increase the rotation to 7-8-9 guys...wants to get to a 9 man rotation. Joe asks how not to overlook FCS program after FCS teams had big upsets....Mac says you need preparation and respect when you play these games. Lot of IAA guys can plan and have something to prove. One of Macs interns played at TSU and is giving a lot of insight. how do you stop TSU : 2 mobile quarterbacks, need to limit big plays and increase turnovers...move the line of scrimmage back. wants the crowd to help with making it nuts, make it crazy for TSU losing is losing. --- Macs not cut from that cloth -- did not play LSU to get beat. Said he didn't see his kids flinch and you try to pull the good things from the game and on the bad things you identify, take responsibility for it and try to correct it. UNT secondary -- this group should improve the most on the team. most of them played special teams or scout teams. Even though they were inexperienced they played pretty well. Really thinks this team will continue to improve. Boutwell practiced tonight and has a green light and will be back -- won't play 75 snaps but will play a lot and they need him. Coleman Feely is GMG to join the show and he is a character. He will bring UNT player specific stories to the show. Mac said people care more about player stories Joked about Coleman Feely bionic man, braces on both knees... At the team talent show Coleman Feely was the MC and dressed up to look exactly as Director of Operations Scott Connalley with the grey hair etc. Will do story on Aaron Fortenberry nickname "the Bear"...think it will show on MeanGreenSports.com on show called beyond the Numbers. 6. That is correct. Coach Mac has set a standard of expectations that are much higher than the teams under Dickey; and the post was referring to the direction this program is headed. I don't believe we have seen that kind/type of success around here in several decades, and quite possibly ever.
  7. Great video. The team played very hard and will continue to improve through the year. The speed of the game will not be this fast again, yet I have to say we do have much more team speed this year. Nice job offensive line, TE's, and RB's against a very athletic front. Defense hung in there pretty well and flashed some playmaking ability at times. Not all bad in Death Valley and let's hope we learn from our fundamental mistakes and build on the positives. This program is headed for places we haven't seen around here in decades. Go Mean Green! Pack Apogee on Saturday
  8. Our secondary is certainly young; but as far as speed and athletic ability; I can't remember one this fast and athletic in recent years. Apparently we started with 2 safeties last year who were close to 5.0 40yd dash guys. Now we have two (Trice & Whitfield) 4.4 guys and two (Lee & 4.5 guys back there. This group may take it on the chin early in some games; but look for them to improve significantly through the year and hopefully to the point that Warner can redshirt the full season
  9. No question here. Dunbar is everything they wanted Felx Jones to be when they drafted him; and will only cost them $400,000. Felix's contract is up next year so let's hope they see the writing on the wall!
  10. Let's hope you're correct!
  11. Great run by LD!
  12. Thank you Ernie Kuehne! He chaired the committee that made this happen and things moved quickly. This is excellent for Coach Benford and Coach Petersen to be able to have predictable practice schedules and location.
  13. Awesome site. Very neat stuff coupled with the interactive facilities site.
  14. Perfect example of this is TCU. Look at their increase in applications over the past 4 years.
  15. Awesome deal. That is exciting for the team; and he must have been heading to 6th grade practice in Argyle afterwards (the Warriors visor).
  16. Great article. Go get 'em Craig! The Mean Green family wishes him nothing but the best.
  17. Jimmerson, Byrd, and J. Brown this year Jimmerson, Pegram, Byrd next year Jimmerson, Pegram, Mark Lewis the following year
  18. No, all practices and scrimmages are closed to the public.
  19. The noticeable differences are the size in the LSU secondary, and the heights of their D-lineman versus ours. We maybe give up an inch per guy on the O-Line because of Y'Barbo, but otherwise not a lot of difference. Now the speed...we are working on making that better. That will be the most glaring difference of all.
  20. Great post. Definitely my favorite comment(s) at Media Day. McCarney has set the bar for expectations high, and there's no reason to doubt his leadership and vision.
  21. Devante Davis - Corner Rex Rollins - Safety & Special Teams Jarrian Roberts - LB Depth & Special Teams David Busby - Secondary Depth Dylan McDorman - DL Depth Carlos Harris - WR Depth, potential return man Xavier Kelly - Secondary Depth Dutton Watson - DL Depth LaJaylin Smith - Special Teams & LB depth
  22. There are some noticable differences for sure: Freshman RB Mark Lewis at 217 Cooper Jones up to 224 Jimmerson up to 219 Freshman LB Jarrian Roberts at 238 Zach Orr down to 223 Chad Polk up to 226 J Phillips up to 223 Daryl Mason up to 233 Derek Akunne down to 238 Kendall Wasington up to 220 Grant Shaw up to 302 Antonio Johnson up to 311 Marcus Smith up to 238 Austin Orr up to 268 Freshman LB LaJaylin Smith at 228 Freshman DE Brad Horton at 6'6" 240 Freshman OL Ryan Rentfro at 6'4" 309 Freshman OL Connor Trussell at 6'5" 295 Freshman DE Malik Dilonga at 6'4" 248 Freshman DE Dutton Watson at 6'3" 261 The difference in the physical frames of these players, especially those recruited in the last 2 classes are very noticeable. And the strength program by Coach Wintrich is definitely paying dividends. Now let's hope these guys can stay healthy through fall camp and win a few more ballgames than the 2011 squad!
  23. Got to love another big guy in the trenches. Mac has clearly made this a priority in recruiting. Depth in the trenches must improve, and this staff is clearly addressing it. Nice pickup and looks to be a guy with a ton of upside.
