It would be nice to add Bowen with Osborn and probably DT leaving by the time fall camp starts next year. Kid looks like someone worthwhile to bring into the program and see how he preforms.

Hearing that professional baseball may be in play on K. Hill anyway.

If we had a competent QB we could very easily be 6-5 at this time. I'm not blaming the entire deal on DT, but I refuse to downplay the ability to complete ROUTINE PASSING ROUTES / COMPLETIONS from the junior high passing tree that our #7 seemingly can't throw accurately on a routine basis. Sure, I would love the WR's to be standing wide open, but at the FBS level they simply aren't going to be ridiculously open on a consistent basis. Have to have a QB who can get them the ball and make the routine throws. We don't and it absolutely kills us in a number of ways. Only 1 more game with this nonsense...

UH has been spoiled (due to Briles' recruiting) with good QB's for years and that offensive system clearly works. We will gladly take Berglund any day of the week; and hope he can help carry this thing to new heights so we can start to recruit the Terrance Broadway/RGIII's/Piland's of the world on a consistent basis.

DT is the worst, most incompetent QB in FBS football. No instincts, no feel, no accuracy.

Some great hits by the Defense. Carlos Harris is emerging as is Darnell Smith at WR. Bellazin and Abbe starting to make some plays.

Noticed in today's DMN, Smiley is 3rd in the D/FW area in Class 4A Receiving Yards, averaging about 15 yards per reception and 12 TD's. -
This is a good column by Vito. There are very few playmakers at the WR position at this point, and the depth with Chancellor and Teegarden being out only enhances that. The other problem is, if your QB cannot make ROUTINE throws from the generic passing tree it doesn't matter who you have at the WR position. We do have a lack of playmakers at the WR position who are participating in games right now, and this QB is as up and down as it gets.

Fortenberry did go down last week with a leg injury in the 3rd quarter. It looked pretty serious initially (like a knee/lower leg injury) however he came back in the game and played. It may have been one of those that "scares" O-Lineman where they get "rolled up on" more than anything else. If he is not listed as the starter though, some type of injury may have occured?

Sooo are we still against coach Mac's rush heavy offense?
UNT Mean Green replied to D-ry's topic in Mean Green Football
This offense is definitely suited to run the football. The O-line, TE's, WR's did a good job of blocking a talented defense last night. We clearly wore them down as the game went on (thank you Coach Wintrich!) and we did enough in the passing/screen game to keep moving the chains. Y'Barbo pulling and getting up the field last night was very fun to watch. It looked like we were more creative last night (similar to K State) and used Lafayette's blitz heavy scheme against them several times. Canales and his staff did a nice job. Let's keep this up! -
Thanks for the rundown.

Any news what happened to 27? He seemed to be out most of the game last night with Busby filling in?
-
DT did a nice job on his play fakes last night and delivered on some of the short throws nicely. He did a good job of hanging in there on the screens. I think he's a good game manager who makes some of the throws he should and at other times he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat (Bynes on the post route in the endzone, Darnell Smith in the endzone). These are throws that most competent FBS QB's make if you sit down and watch them on Saturdays. If he can improve on completing some of the intermediate throws that he should make then we will be fine offensively because we can keep a defense honest. That being said, and I know this will lead to some criticism. Having watched Brock warm up with the QB's now at the 3 home games he can really spin the ball and certainly looks the part. It comes VERY easy for him and I can't wait to see that competition next spring. Not to mention a QB threat running the ball (we saw from Broadway last night) is an effective weapon to have in the arsenal. Brock is an intriguing player and will be fun to watch develop. I don't care who our QB is as long as we win ballgames

Special Teams and third down performance both offensively and defensively played a pivotal role in last night's game. I truly believe from a scheme standpoint Coach Riddle is a very good Special Teams coordinator, sometimes the kids just have to step up and make plays when their number is called and they certainly answered the bell last night. I do believe we need to have punt return auditions. How bad have we been statistically the last 2-3 seasons in Punt Returns? I want to say one of the worst in the country. We have to get someone back there who will catch the ball; even if it's a fair catch every time. I'm not even going to entertain the tantalizing thought of someone back there who can catch it and get a few positive yards...let's just catch the darn thing first!

Good crowd last night for sure. Thank you to the students who give us homefield advantage at Apogee! Their involvement this year has been absolutely tremendous! How many false starts have we seen opponents have this season...particularly in the first half of games at Apogee? Excellent crowd and atmosphere last night in Denton for an 8:00pm start on a Tuesday night. Absolute gut-check performance by our football program on national TV and it sure feels good today after that win. Hopefully that win gives us some confidence and serves as a springboard of momentum heading up to Murfeesboro.

Get the ball in 22's hands and good things happen.

Excellent breakdown Mean_Green09

Hope its as close to a sellout as we can make it. ESPN2 can do us some favors with the camera work (a la TXA21 and the Texas Southern game) to emphasize the crowd that is there. Look forward to the beautiful weather tomorrow night in our beautiful home of Apogee Stadium. Hope the team shows up and kicks the Ragin' Cajuns a$$
