  5. Let's welcome the Bulldogs into the Mean Green Phone Booth!
  6. Excellent breakdown TFLF. Definitely a game to be won in the trenches. Their Defensive Line was pretty stout last year. The kid named "I.K." played havoc during the first half, and they had 4 tackles who were stout in the middle. We eventually wore them down, but it was certainly not a 'comfortable win'. Looking at the forecast, it may be pretty wet come game time. 3 yards and a cloud of wet rubber beads could be the theme...
  7. Absolutely, the mindset SHOULD be to go somewhere where you can get on the field and play. However, just calling it like it is, but our system isn't going to attract kids over those after mentioned places which completely feature the QB. These kids want to be on ESPN, and rack up numbers.
  8. If you were a QB wouldn't you rather play in Baylor's system than ours? And Tech, TCU, aTm, SMU, Rice, UH, etc..?
  9. Not sure it'll prevent him from being drafted. But his future is certainly inside...and based on results from the hame the other night; it appeared that McKinney got driven into the backfield repeatedly and Lemon had trouble with the speed on the edge. I'm certainly confident in Simmonds ability to correct that.
  10. Agree with all...except the multiple first rounder comments. Simply not true at this point at Texas. Give it a year or two and development under a capable coaching staff...and then yes. Our defense is good. Although we will face better offenses for sure. It's all about getting the QB right and adjusting the schemes accordingly.
  11. Good point...assumption would be that it would fall on deaf ears in Austin, but you never know.
  12. That is a pretty darn good defensive front. 90 and 88 could start anywhere in the country and that's who wreaked the most havoc against our right side. We will get it cleaned up and be able to run the ball against loaded boxes from here on out. Ground and pound baby!
  13. Yes, your looking north of $100,000 expense to bring the band. Those arrogant money hungry pricks had 8,000+ open seats! yet they want to charge for visiting bands? Talk about out of touch!
  14. Not to knock any kids on this roster...after watching last night is anyone else concerned with our staff (Offensive Coordinator) evaluation of QB talent in recruiting? Brent Osborn Cooper Jones (now a backup TE) Dajon Williams Josh Greer It's somewhat alarming if you take a step back and realize that while all of these kids have prototype frames and abilities, they just don't or haven't panned out as QB's? Canales had success with Dodge recruited QB's...what about his own? Interested to get the peoples take on this.
  15. Until we actually use the QB run part of the Zone Read, why even have the window dressing? Canales loves to give this look, but he the QB only keeps it 2-3 times per game and typically in situations which are very predictable. You have to have the threat of the QB run at least be enough to keep a defense (in this case the backside LB and safety) honest. We just simply don't do that under Canales, so the window dressing is clearly a waste of time. I agree McNulty provides somewhat of a run threat, but you have to actually use it to be a viable option.
  16. This defense is extremely encouraging. The group seems to be more athletic than in years past. Up front was a pleasant surprise and those young kids grew up a lot. They'll be fine. LB's will continue to gel and the rotation of personnel is good. Secondary did well in coverage, only got out of position a few times with Harris dragging across the field. Wade was a bright spot with 9 tackles, Buyers was solid as usual and did miss a couple of tackles which he normally makes. This unit will be top notch. But the offense must keep them off the field!
  17. Good observations Harry. McKinney was overmatched clearly and Lemon had trouble with the speed out there. Move Lemon back inside and slide Rentfro or someone to RT.
  18. Open competition this week. Means should be in the mix and not labeled as "redshirt". The two guys who played last night were absolutely incompetent and embarrassing.
  19. Texas charges $100.00 per seat for opposing bands...so the bottom line is $$$.
  20. Just complete the routine throws, don't force the ball, and keep the chains moving. Hit some key 3rd downs. If he does that, we should be okay. Hoping those outstanding Special Teams from a year ago show up again in Austin!
  21. Awesome video! Time to rally in Austin on August 30th and get all over the Whorns A$$!
  22. Given the financial 'situation' that UNT is under with the State, this contract for Mac is pretty darn solid!
