2nd UNT Scrimmage Play by play
UNT Mean Green replied to MEANGREENCOACH2's topic in Mean Green Football
Scrimmage Recap: OFFENSE 2: continues to play well at WR; strong possession guy who is getting better 3: played better this week than last; should have big season 4: Wyche is a stud 5: I'd give him a C for this scrimmage. Appeared to be guiding / aiming the ball early, and once he was benched for 6 to run with the 1's, he came back and cut it loose making some great throws to remind everyone of his arm ability 6: Very good progress from a week ago when he was inclined to pull it down and run. Stayed in there, and went through progressions. Has a great feel for the game 8: DNP - was held out 11: didn't notice him much 16: looked to be lost, but can definitely run (candidate for fastest on the team). I'd imagine he will settle in and contribute as the season progresses. 26: Looked solid 29: another solid day; effective in screen game 32: continues to make plays at WR 36: made some nice blocks in run and pass game 44: is going to be a nice player. runs hard, but needs to develop strength and agility in weight room 46: surprising had some great runs O-Line: looked average at best 80: made a couple of nice plays, tall kid 81: seems to be a steady depth WR 82: DNP 83: had a couple of nice plays, and a couple of clear mistakes; is a good athlete for sure for a youngster 87: developing into a nice jumbo inside WR, he should have a great year 88: Pirtle is going to be pretty solid at this level; this was a nice pickup in recruiting 89: didn't stand out as much this week; but solid for sure DEFENSE 2: is going to be a player; incredibly athletic 4: made some nice plays as a backup safety 5: looked better this week at LB 7: had a great scrimmage; repeatedly disruptive 9: Brooks is playing well, appears confident and matured from a year ago 10: made some nice plays on the edge / in the flats 15: showed up in the middle and did some good things 16: DNP, but was rehabbing and looks to be ready soon 17: had an okay day; did get off blocks and make some plays in run game 18: didn't notice Wheeler this week, may have been held out to rehab 21: had a good day 22: looked to be in a new position and more comfortable there 23: good day 27: looked good in the nickel spot near the LoS 30: making a nice recovery from injury; did some good things up front 32: solid - but missed some tackles against the shifty backs (4 and 29) 34: English played pretty well 36: this kid stood out - appears to be a real difference maker in the Nickel spot 39: had a really nice day at CB; good freshman 42: can really run out there; just sometimes appears to be lost 49: stud in the middle 50: appeared to be moved to the edge; kid is an absolute monster for a freshman 53: did some decent things at LB 56: had a good day opposite 7/30; rushed the passer and contained the run 90: played with great effort, going to help with depth this year 92: great looking frame; did some solid things up front 94: quick off the edge, but appears one dimensional (pass rush only) 97: big pickup here; can help spell Rod Young and be a run plugger 99: played hard, did some nice things -
Fine clearly belongs on an FBS field. He has made the transition very quickly, and will be a key component in the success of this football program for years to come. Glad that he is here!

Amen. We are solid at every other position group. Thankful that we have an excellent offensive coaching staff to help overcome the deficiencies, wherever they may be.

That's awesome for Sarge! Beautiful part of the country in Savannah. CHEP is a major outfit of treated pallets for retail distribution of consumer goods.

Win the first one.

http://texashsfootball.com/top-5-texas-college-football-match-ups-week-1/ 4. SMU at North TexasA revenge game for North Texas as they start a new era under Seth Littrell. SMU defeated the Mean Green 31-13 last year for one of their two wins in 2015. Chad Morris had an offense that could score last year for the Ponies, but the defense wasn’t up to par. This clash between two teams looking to bring new life to their programs will be big in recruiting in the North Texas area.

MGB: UNT picks up former MLB draft pick
UNT Mean Green replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I'd bet you that he gained that weight while playing pro ball. -
UNT Green Brigade ready for the season

That's likely where they practice, particularly when the football team practices at Apogee when it's wet. -
MGB: UNT picks up former MLB draft pick

Excellent pickup! Kid has home run speed running an electric time 60 yard dash (baseball's equivalent of the 40 yard). Plus he will be mature mentally having been a professional and having to recover from his suspension. http://www.scout.com/mlb/rays/story/1192301-spencer-edwards-plans-to-sign-with-rays http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/6479266/v22032919/draft-2012-rays-draft-ss-spencer-edwards-no-88 Speed, speed, speed! now let's hope he can pick it up quickly and provide us another weapon in the WR arsenal -
MGB: Monday practice news, notes

Watch out for Bussey as well. Thinking that he may start in place of Smiley on 9/3 and never look back. Kid looked special on Saturday in the scrimmage...very special. -
I firmly believe secondary (following QB's) play will be greatly improved year over year.
-
Big news on Jenkins as he can really help us. Waiting on Darius Turner too. Raveon did not make it.

Zach Orr Starting for Ravens?
UNT Mean Green replied to Side Show Joe's topic in Mean Green Football
Heard that there were two Cowboys scouts (including Scouting Director), one Colts, and one Chargers scout at the scrimmage Saturday... Do do not recall seeing them at August scrimmages in the past -
PAC 12, along with Houston, San Diego State, and BYU...

Mean Green Fall Scrimmage #1 in Review
UNT Mean Green replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Good recap Harry. I'll add my $0.02 on it: OFFENSE Smiley - disagree that he's near the top of the WR rung. Appears to freelance more than the other WR's and when his number was called it wasn't pretty. Needs to step up, or may not be playing too much after the suspension. Rutherford - by far the best day he's had. Had great chemistry with multiple QB's (over 10 catches I believe). Looks to be emerging in this offense. Goree - not a good day today, but he's still fun to watch move around and run. Long, fluid athlete who should flourish in this scheme. Wyche - clearly stood out of the newcomers. Great looking athlete who will be a big contributor in this offense. Morris - night and day from spring. Game has slowed down. If we can protect him, he will put up gaudy numbers. Something like 18-27 today with several drops. Fine - how can you not love him? Great instincts, arm, and quick release. Agree with Bob Stoops that if he was a few inches taller, he'd have 70+ offers. Thankful he is here. Bussey - stud freshman. Big time player, who will play a ton this year. Good athlete, plenty big, and strong hands. Thompson - looks great from a physical standpoint, but didn't get many balls his way. O'Hara - tall kid who appears to be grasping it, and the game speed is a lot for him now. Has tools and should improve into a solid backup. Tucker - made some nice plays on catches out of backfield. Worst athlete of the backs by far, but a solid team player. Wilson - great burst and vision, looked like a big time RB in limited action. Ivery - big day today. Clearly seems to have come around since spring and ready to be significant. Buyers - didn't do much for me. Looked to play slow. Maki - appears to be starting fullback. Will stick his nose in there, loves contact. Smith - good young back, had some nice runs in traffics. Needs to redshirt and get stronger / faster. Offensive Line - looked okay. Need to give Morris another full second of clean pocket to work progressions. Khan - had a nice day as inside WR. Griffin - did not get many touches, and didn't see him really run. Wilson - good looking athlete who had two big drops. Dillman - in a knee brace. Smith - big, strong kid. Had a nice catch in traffic where he was hammered and hung on. Looked okay blocking and didnt make many plays overall. Pirtle - good sized kid who caught a perfectly thrown deep ball from his teammate, Fine. Robinson - made a nice long TD early. Drops, after that. DEFENSE Jenkins - please be ready next week! Peters - big body, somewhat stiff. Looks like he needs some agility and flexibility training. Combs - great frame and played well. Looks NFL-esque. Brooks - made several good plays but looked gassed at the end. Reasonable considering he's been covering this offense all week. Minor - a couple of big hits. Davis - injured, dnp. Finney - looks to be greatly improved. Active and looked comfortable. Wheeler - major improved, very effective pass rusher off edge. Look for him to have a big year. Gray - looked solid. Ejiya - great frame (6'3" 225ish) and speed. Just needs to learn it. Will play a lot. McClain - active all over field. Preston - made several nice plays in run game and against short passes. Roberts - looks healthy and big. Scott - really looks comfortable, had a huge hit on Kelvin Smith on pass reception. It appears that defensive scheme asks him to do less in this system. English - effective when in there. Moore - strong and quick when in there. Young - absolute stud in the middle. Trashed the middle of our 1 Offensive Line. Made Rice / Henson / Woodworth look like rag dolls. Hamilton - what a monster freshman! Huge kid who will light you up. We don't have them look this good normally. Dilonga - solid, looks grown up. Johnson - solid day even though undersized. Ozuwugu - didn't notice him. Hood - he's huge. Can't wait to watch him play.- 23 replies

MGB video, scrimmage thoughts, notes
UNT Mean Green replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Agreed, that in an ideal ("normal") world yes this assumption is true. The problem is that you have compliance, admissions, and athletics departments who are on vacation - and as we know, some of that at North Texas (in its current state) won't be "as it should be" until we get things solidified with Wren Baker -
Probably valid points here. Frank Wilson is a "highly touted recruiter" who was able to "coach running backs" at LSU. Nothing about the guy would leave an unbiased person under the premise that the guy can coach and develop.

'17 QB Cade Pearson (Texas High) [LOI: NT]
UNT Mean Green replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Have heard that it's pretty bad. Basically hear it's Morris, Fine, O'Hara, Shanbour, and Cason; and that the last 3 aren't close to the first 2. -
MGB: Dee Balkman has been cleared to join practice
UNT Mean Green replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
It's definitely good to have depth and the hope is Baulkman pushes (and ultimately surpasses) Preston as a talent upgrade at that position. -
Awesome article. Very well done by the football scoop folks. Littrell and staff are very impressive. Love the energy and mentality!

Gotta love the cover photo of Littrell with a fat lip of Copenhagen in

UNT Mean Green replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Big news here. I'd expect to see Baulkman work his way into his role of playing the "slot corner" or "nickleback" spot (like Orlando Scandrick plays for the Cowboys). -
Reading between the lines it looks like the staff expects every other JC transfer / Blueshirt to be with the team shortly. Also, Littrell stated that they never recruited Derricott; that it was an inaccurate story all along.
