Brett Vito: Poor Start Could Hurt The Future
UNT Mean Green replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Dang Vito...bite your tongue! Vito is becoming more like Randy Galloway...who I love...but is often unrealistic. -
Gee whiz UNTBowler! You like to personally pick out each fan on here who's supporting our kids and coaches through this rebuilding phase and attack what they say. Did I say "It was the fault of the officials that we had so many penalties called"? NO! I simply said that we do not get top flight officials in the Sun Belt...and that can be interpreted how anyone wants to. Anyone who deals with this situation knows alot more about it than you do. That last post where you said (Venegas grabbing a facemask) supports mine by saying that we don't get top flight officials and as a result they miss a lot of calls! Also...I don't know if you're watching what I am watching, but this team doesn't have anything close to a discipline problem.
-
By the way...FFR and others...Boomer has come a lllooonnnggg way since the FAU game! Great job! If you turn around when they shoot it off, watch the glass in the press box...you can visibly see it rattle and shake! Pretty neat! Good job, now if we could only address the fireworks situation.

The penalties were frustrating, yes. We do not get top flight college officials in the Sun Belt. No, we do not have a discipline problem...not even close.

I'm Fed Up At The Hits On Dodge And The Players
UNT Mean Green replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
This is the first and last time I will address Todd Dodge's job status. He is in EXCELLENT standing with UNT. He has boosted ticket sales tremendously. Mean Green Club memberships are at an all time high. Letterman's Association memberships...same deal. Attendance is up. 5K for the spring game helped. Best recruiting class in years that he accomplished in a little over a month. Outstanding class of EARLY COMMITMENTS which puts us on a pedastool over the rest of the Sun Belt. Lets face it, the guy is a kid magnet. Not to mention, he is an outstanding man of character who is teaching our players more than the game of football. He is the face of this university right now...like it or not...and personally I am very comfortable with that. He's in good standing and is doing GREAT things for our university. Yeah, its an uphill battle and we all know that. But everyone who makes the decisions on coaches really likes Todd Dodge and the things he's doing. -
I'm Fed Up At The Hits On Dodge And The Players
UNT Mean Green replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree with Old Timer! God bless the Seniors...but I don't care what happens this year other than I'd like to see our squad improve from the first game to the last game in the 3 major areas, and I know we have accomplished that on the Offensive & Defensive sides...the verdict is still out on Special Teams. Our defense has come a long ways from the first game until now! Our offense has shown signs of greatness...we just have trouble with consistency. I may be drinking some green-colored kool-aid, but I feel like we are going to have a legitimate team in 2009! -
What happened???

Fw*telegram Dodge Surprised By Offensive Struggles
UNT Mean Green replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
The offensive staff will figure out solutions to the blitzing. There are certainly ways to counter it. It is very tough when you go into a game expecting a team to do something and preparing your team all week for something, and then they come out and do something completely different. It's a 'shell-shock' feeling...trust me...been there and it's not fun. You've got to think...ok Troy had been blitzing 21% of the time, so worst case scenario they bring someone 35% of the time. Nah....they brought someone almost every play and it really got us out of rhythm. Dodge said on Monday night that he'd worst-case scenario his team in practice every week from here on out and have them prepared for any wrinkles they may throw out there. -
I was not certain on a couple of those WR predictions whether or not guys were inside or outside receivers. Sam Roberson does look like a stud though doesn't he? So does Marcus King. We've seen Evan Fentriss in action in the spring game. With him and Casey next year as a 1-2 punch we ought to be in great shape!

Hickoryhouse, Riley played some wideout along with alternating every 3rd series at QB with Greg McElroy (Alabama) during his sophomore campaign. Was pretty stinking good at it too, and was obviously affective on the double pass play.

Sweetwater on the Denton Square.

Hope so...planning on showing up!!!

Fans... Give your projected 2008 Starting Lineups for North Texas! I know this is kind of silly and all that...but it'd be interesting to see what you guys think we'll see next year.

Get Over Yourselves...let's Get Real!
UNT Mean Green replied to NCMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I wouldn't say that we would beat North Dakota State. But then again, this year, I wouldn't say anyone is going to beat anyone...cause your bet isn't safe! All kinds of crazy things can happen! This is a rebuilding year or two or three for us. I promise you, there are many brighter days ahead!~ -
Eddie did us a huge favor in donating the paint. Fouts really looks alot better from the outside, and from both sides of Highway 35. Which is where recruits/high school coaches will drive by.

Great post MedPilot! Now on to KBJ's dumbass post: Yeah the board has been very vocal about Daniel Meager vs. Giovanni Vizza...I don't think there's any doubt who helps our team more. Not because he's the new guy, or the freshman promised to lead us to a BCS title game. No, Vizza does give us the best chance to win. He's the type of guy a team rallies around. He may be the toughest guy on the field, which is a good thing for your QB to be. How can you predict that Dodge will start Riley next year over Giovanni Vizza? That's a joke. You firmly believe that Todd Dodge will blatantly play his son because he's his son...that is RIDICULOUS! You've obviously never coached. Any coach has a harder time playing his son than the other kid. His son better be CLEAR CUT better than the other boy. Shame on you for questioning Todd Dodge's character! There's no reasoning behind your prediction (besides being an idiot) other than you being someone who had unrealistic expectations for a new coach and staff and have been disappointed with the performance thus far. I guarantee Dodge does have a 5 year plan. It has been and will continue to be productive in placing North Texas football back on the map. In that 5 year plan he plans to instill values and character throughout the program. He wants to build young men. He plans to help kids get to the next level. He plans to graduate his athletes. He plans to play an exciting brand of football. He plans to recruit the best kids possible for North Texas. He plans to help build a new stadium. He plans to energize fan support and enhance donations. The list goes on and on....but you can get the point. I HIGHLY doubt that he has any plans to go anywhere else at this point. He is going to build this thing and have his stamp on it, kind of how he re-surged Southlake Carroll. I am sure him and Riley have talked (maybe) about coaching together at some point...but so what? There's a ton of aspiring, young coaches out there. Saying that his statements about family that he makes to the team are concerned with his own personal family of him, his wife, and 2 kids are extremely ignorant and downright rude. Go talk to the players, and people who have been around the program under Dickey and under Dodge. There's no comparison in what those people say. We all know this year hasn't been great...but who honestly thought it would. If you expected .500 or better your expectations were out of sight. Our schedule has been extremely tough. The conference has significantly improved. We are learning new offensive, defensive, and special teams' systems. KBJ, you're post was ignorant and downright rude. I feel you should apologize to Coach Dodge for questioning his integrity and putting Riley in the middle of your idiotic statements. You aren't man enough to do it, but you should think about it. It'd be the right thing to do.

Troy Now Has 4 Votes In The Ap Poll
UNT Mean Green replied to MeanGreenBuzz's topic in Mean Green Football
haha, yeah Orlando is a little bit North of Tampa! -
It will be MUCH better than most people think at that time. I'd say we'll be along the lines of a Troy...who as their record points out, does compete well with top schools.

Troy Now Has 4 Votes In The Ap Poll
UNT Mean Green replied to MeanGreenBuzz's topic in Mean Green Football
Troy is without a doubt the "class of The Belt". They are for real. I heard some stats on their coach and his record(s) at the school. Very impressive! -
Though the title of this thread is 'a few good things so far', I'll give my opinion 'a few good things from yesterday' with the negatives in parenthesis. 1) I believe if we had completed the double pass on the first series the game would have gone differently. 2) We created 7 turnovers (but didn't capitalize on them). 3) Craig Robertson is becoming force for us on the outside. His best football is still ahead of him too (Derek Mendoza is slow and it really shows, I'm not discounting him as he plays extremely hard, and any coach would love to have him, however, I am discounting his footspeed...it really stands out as a weak spot). 4) Edrick Gilmore continues to impress, along with Miller and Stephenson (not counting Chapman as he must have lined up offsides 3 or 4 times...which is bad) 5) Giovanni played very well considering the pounding he was taking (Wish they'd let those offensive linemen stand back there and catch a snap with 4-7 guys running fullspeed and unblocked at them...maybe that'd teach them...our offensive line was embarrassing yesterday). He delivered the ball pretty well, and helped sustain some drives, and had the announcers very impressed with him again this week. 6) Evyn Roman flashed some serious athleticism on the punt return where he spun out of a tackle (we've been waiting on that all year). 7) We did a good job against Hougabook I thought. He put some balls in great spots, and their receivers were athletic enough to get them. 8) We are making strides each week. I like how the team is still playing hard and 'working the plan'.

Incoming DB's from last year or this coming recruiting class: Greg Garden (S)---Transferred from Navy, former stud at Denton Ryan. Derek Tomlin (S)---Southlake Caroll's biggest impact player on Defense this year. Kevin Ealy (CB)---good athlete from Brenham who is improving cover skills. Latif Nurudeen (CB)---Baylor transfer should compete for a starting spot. Bron Hager (S)---Physical player may have been best all-around player on Austin Westlake's '06 runner-up squad. Darrien Williams (S)---Athletic player with a nose for the ball. Also lines up in offensive backfield for the Lions. I also don't know what position Willie Taylor out of Dallas Hillcrest is going to play. He seems to be a guy who needs to have the ball in his hands, but he certainly has the speed and quickness to cover well. He'll be an interesting one when he arrives in Denton. He's a fantastic football player though. I may be missing some though...this is off the top of my head.

very cool! Look at the enthusiasm on the sidelines! I used to think watching Coach Dodge and his staff on the sidelines at SLC was like watching a bunch of robots. Very calm, cool, and collected. Didn't show an extravagant amount of emotion. Here though, he and his staff are showing their passion for their team on the sidelines. A little more emotional than he used to be, and I think it's great for the players to see that.
