Great pics! I agree about the one with Coach in front of the team coming down the ramp! Anyone else see Sam Roberson standing in there (Redshirt Freshman WR)? Good looking specimen!!!

Anyone who has coached knows the emotions and feelings running through your system after a loss or when your specific unit cost the team a chance at victory. It's an absolutely sickening feeling! Mendoza is an emotional guy who shows a lot of fire, and I am sure Dodge thought with what has been going on lately with the racist rumors and what not that he had better not let Coach Mendoza answer the media because he could possibly blow a gasket. I'm not saying Coach Mendoza couldn't handle it, it's just a precautionary measure by TD like after Vizza's first game he was made unavailable for comment.

Unbelievable! That was so neat.

haha yeah that's good stuff! Navy fans are classy, funny people.

Nice rundown by FW Star Telegram! What a ballgame...I compared it to watching a tennis match in terms of the amount of "whiplash" in your neck after both teams went up and down the field all day long!

Defensive Woes Nullify Offenses
UNT Mean Green replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
trud1966...Vizza does have zip on the ball. I don't know what game you're watching, but he's got a hose. I will agree on looking off and going through progressions. You're right, he will learn that over time. I'll say that he's come a long way since day 1, and Coach Dodge was right when he said "He (Giovanni) would have been our guy if we had all year to recruit". -
I thought we had an outstanding offensive gameplan that goes back to Coach Dodge & Ford's offensive philosophy: Take what they give you. They were aligning 2 DB's to our Trips sides and we took advantage of that to the Trips side and to the single WR side in the passing game. We ran alot of bubble & slip screens that went for big plays. Threw the ball downfield well. Vizza made several things happen with his feet. We also called some timely QB draw plays that went for a lot of yards. Navy seemed to adjust a little bit to our Trips stuff, but we didn't really get a lot of RAC yards in the 2nd half. Vizza was still like 17-21 in the 2nd half, but Navy kept most of it in front of them and did a better job tackling. Our offensive line did a nice job of blitz pickup...didn't seem to give us too much trouble.

If anything happens to Mendoza...bring on DeLoach! That'd be wonderful.

I think our team is craving for a win. They play EXTREMELY hard! I love watching these guys sell out. Good things are on the horizon for Mean Green football. Both of those teams today play the game the right way!

How about that earth-shaking flyover! AWESOME stuff! The prayer by the chaplin was incredible...very touching. I am a big fan of the Midshipmen (except when they play NT). Neat to see them run out of the tunnel with the American flag!

Our student body alone could fill Fouts, but we can't even fill the student side...too busy in the parking lot drinking. We need to start winning to get them into the games, and I wish the faithful ones that are there week in and week out could encourage people to not leave early!

Game highlights from today will be aired on ESPN Sportscenter tonight coming up following the South Carolina v. Florida game. Hey...its publicity...we made Sportscenter!

Absolutely...total class acts from both sides today. It was really something to see Navy in action. A special day at Fouts Field and a privilege to see the Midshipmen in action.

No way we are not the worst Division 1 football team. Here's how I look at it: OVERALL we are in a total rebuilding of a program from the ground floor up. New staff, new system heading into the year. We get demolished in Norman...so what...they are a team with a shot at the National Title. We lose to SMU in Dallas. There were a ton of positives from that one. We were up 14-3 (Positive) at one point. 601 yards passing from our backup QB...not bad. We just self destructed late in the game. We lost to Lafayette. Tough one to swallow. Couldn't stop the QB/TB rushing combo and did a good job offensively (Positive). We lose to Arkansas...got run off the field. They're a good football team that significantly outathleted us and had us beat before it even started. Against FAU we were up 17-3 again (Positive). Same team that took #6 South Florida to the buzzer. Much better athletes than us and we should have beaten them. We defeat Monroe (Positive). Defense plays great against a good rushing team (Positive). We lose to Troy (who should be in the Top 25). Defense creates 7 turnovers (Positive). Offense can't put the ball in the paint (negative). Out-athleted again. We lost to MUTS. Gave this one away. It was a positive night in the fact that this was a Blue Raider team that almost beat Louisville when they were ranked #5 in the country, and took #21 Virginia to the buzzer as well. We lose to Navy. I thought 2/3 of the game was well played by UNT. Offensively speaking, we were extremely explosive, and our staff did a great job of exploiting some weaknesses in their defensive schemes. Coach Dodge showed us a glimpse of 'Dodgeball' early on. Score on first drive, BOOM, onside kick, score BOOM. Showed Navy that we are coming to play! Defensively speaking, it was a tough night. Navy ran the ball at will and shoved it down our throats. That Option game is something else. It is executed perfectly! (several Positives from tonight!) This thing is headed in a good direction in many ways! It's going to be very exciting in a few years! Even if we have an average defense (#50-80) we'll be able to beat most people.

If we fire Mendoza (which 95% of the people on here think we will) Gary DeLoach would be a good candidate for DC. Was here before and is now at UCLA. Good defensive mind...master of preparation.

Great pics of Mr. Lott, Greenbat!!! -
Allen always has good lineman going to D1 schools. It'd be nice for us to tap into that well. I mean they have to have the utmost respect for Coach Dodge as he and the Dragons handed Allen it's 'Annual Allen Ass-Whoopin' now for 4 years straight! It's a funny deal as Allen would always head into that game undefeated and ranked highly and then get blown out of the water by Dragon teams that were that much better!

The 'all female' cannon crew was an intentional Recruiting tool by FFR! By the way...Boomer is L-O-U-D!

Speaking of time of possession, I know that is an area of concern/discussion heading into Saturday's game. However, I heard an interesting stat last night at the radio show from a member of the football staff. Notre Dame's TOP was 31 minutes and they ran over 90 offensive plays. Navy's TOP was 29 minutes. Not as bad as I thought it'd be. We are going to have our opportunities Saturday.

Funny stuff!!!

Montey Stephenson and Casey Fitzgerald both spoke on Coach's behalf. Jeremiah Chapman, Evan Fentriss, and Brandon Jackson were also in attendance showing their support.
-
I like the standing O idea!!!

What a joke! Mr. Cox's comments are downright stupid. He has no support for his reasoning.

Our defense will be challenged this week against a team that is very good at running the football. We will be facing a discipline offense that does a great job running the option. Their lineman are small and quick, and good at getting downfield and making blocks. Their Fullback is a tough bruiser who runs well between the tackles. Their 2 'slot backs' are athletic, and their QB is a great field general. We need to contain their QB first, then the pitch, and then the fullback...in my opinion. I like Weathers and Robertson having pitch responsibilities. Mendoza will have dive responsibility. And Gilmore/Chapman/Holman should have QB. We'll see though. Look for the Mean Green to have a lot of success through the air!

Navy is a very discipline football team who executes the triple option very well. They fly to the ball on defense and will hit you when they get there. I am encouraged though, as apparently their pass rush has been lacking this year...should be an interesting game!
