  1. It depends on the coverage and depth of the passing, but many times crossing patterns are the job of the LBs. Unless it's man to man and the passes are over 12 yds, this is the LBs drop zone in zone coverages.
  2. I don't care in the sense of "it's going to affect my life one way or the other," but I have a group of friends that love talking football uniforms as do some on this board. As for UCF, I like their white helmets but the white stripes on their shoulder pads is bad. As for Syracuse's uniform, it is probably the worse thing currently out there. However, it is not the worse combination of uniforms on the field at the same time, which currently is the link that I posted. I can't even watch a Syracuse game on tv due to their uniform. I actually turned off their game against Washington earlier this year because I couldn't take it any longer! There are some uniforms that are a close second to Syracuse - Oregon St's sports bras, Oregon's all yellow, Wyoming (anything), Texas Tech's all red, Northwestern's all purple to name a few.
  3. The contrast in colors has damaged my eyes. Both schools AD should be fired! Why isn't one of the two teams wearing white? http://www.daytondailynews.com/p/content/g...d/udfb2007.html
  4. Absolutely not. You don't have to compliment TD at all. I don't care if Schnelly hates TD and thinks he's the worst coach in football. However, if you're going to compliment him then just say he's a good coach, but don't say he as good as 1/2 the other coaches in the conference. That's not a compliment, it means you're average. BTW, "Tina Yothers is hot?" Really?
  5. Give him a compliment but don't throw this "he as 1/2 the coaches in the conference" crap in there! Just say he's a good coach and leave it at that! Nice backhanded compliment.
  6. If you believe in these players and trust your ability to judge talent, you don't want to be late to the party (so to speak). One way you can take a kid away from one of the "big" boys is to get on them early and stay true, loyal and diligent. If you wait to offer after the big boys, it is too late. Offering early gives you a chance, waiting is the last thing you can do thinking you're going to steal someone away from the better known schools.
  7. All quiet in the locker room A few of the prominent guys ducked out quickly -- Pierce, Osi, Strahan, Shockey -- and the rest said some very familiar sounding things... At least familiar to those who were around after the week 3 debacle in Seattle last season: Gibril: "We've just got to get off the field on third down. It's simple as that. We're not splitting the atom here." Mitchell: "It's about having that confidence, being ready to beat your man and thinking you're going to be the one to get to the quarterback. We're just not getting that big play. It looks real hard right now, but it's as simple as that." Webster: "We shouldn't have to wait until we have a bye week (like we had last season after the Seahawks loss) or wait until we're last in the league in defense to turn things around. Let's do it on our own, that should be our motto." TC got a pretty good grilling -- about why the Packers' less-than-elite tight ends were uncovered, about why there's no pass rush and why Mathias Kiwanuka is coming off the field so much in passing situations -- and he had some explanations, but not too many answers. As for the injuries, WR Steve Smith (fractured scapula) is out at least two weeks, according to the Giants, and then he's week-to-week. I'll interpret that as at least a month. DE Adrian Awasom has a fractured transverse process in his back, the same injury that felled William James/Peterson. Think that's all for Awasom this season; in fact, FB Robert Douglas was back with the team today, though they made no roster move as of yet. Douglas is in because RB Ahmad Bradshaw (sprained elbow) is out. Also on the injury report: LB Reggie Torbor (bruised elbow), QB Jared Lorenzen (sprained ankle) and WR Plaxico Burress (sprained right ankle/sprained left pinky). That is all.
  8. I'm sorry but I see it completely different. As undisciplined as Miami was they still won this game. They could have easily won this game by 21 points if they were a little more discipline. The better team was Miami w/the better athletes. They were also a lot better coached under Rolle than they ever were under the old coaching staff.
  9. Make no mistake about it, our defense starting going down hill the second DeLoach left our campus. It was not good in BK's last year. When AA and McGee left it began to slide and just got worse from there ending with BK last year which was a total disappointment.
  10. Thank you for saying this because I was going to post this myself. I don't think most realize what we witness last night. That was a record breaking game! Does losing suck - yes, but I'm really excited about where this thing is going. The ability to come from behind, put together long drives, to never be out of a game and the progress the "O" made was fantastic. Also, I a lot of people are jumping on the D. Int's setup 2 of SMU's touchdowns and a bone head penalty (that I question - the facemask) gave SMU a first down when we had them 3rd and 20 that lead to another TD when it should have been a punt. Then there was the missed call on the reception by SMU where his knee was on the ground. He gets six yds on the play and instead of 3rd and 10 it was 3 and 4 and they throw a 5yd out for the first. That lead to another score instead of a punt. Finally, the mistake of all mistakes using a prevent defense, which prevents you from winning, at the end of the 1st half. That's roughly 28 points that are either correctable or not the direct result of bad defense. I believe they can and will get better on D.
  11. Even worse than the loss was the fact that UNLV snapped a 16 game losing streak dating back to the middle of the 1997 season by beating us. Then, in 1999 Baylor snapped a 10 game losing streak against us for their only win that year. Then, in 2001 ULM snapped a 19 game D1 losing streak against us. That was followed up by the 26 game conference winning streak we had. I think sometimes we forget how far down we actually were, how far we came (give DD some credit for the wins not the embarrassing losses listed above) and how bright the future ahead still is. We gave DD a LOT of room. Let’s do the same for TD. He'll get this things rolling sooner than later!
  12. Great post!
  13. Was he supposed to be playing that much or did the starting db get hurt on the first or second play. Roman was not the starter but he did get most of the snaps. Nuradeen (sp) and Bush are suppose to be the starters. Not only is he (Roman) young, but throw in that he was a backup and OU went straight after him like they should. Being on that island can be a lonely world, sink or swim, but you've gotta go through it to get better.
  14. Rick, thank you! You are right on point with everything you said. We've now got a stick to measure from, I know the coaches won't quit, the players won't quit, and neither should us fans. Stay positive, stay supportive and help build this thing into what we know it can be.
  15. How? If you're going to give TD a year or two or three, then give his entire coaching staff the same. If you want to question TD's decision just to question it, fine. But, we've seen one game and Vince Lombardi couldn't have helped our D tonight. You can't coach against speed, OU has it, we don't! It's not valid until you begin to question whether or not Dodge should be here (unless you aleady do).
  16. We could have had the Cowboys' coaching staff and it wouldn't of mattered. Could we have played soft zone and ran the ball every down and made the game closer - sure. However, the bottom line is they were bigger, faster and stronger. I like the fact that TD ran his offense the entire game. Our recruiting, as everyone knows, has been horrible the last 3 years. It has and will continue to change and then we'll see the talent level begin to equal out. Then and only then, can a coach begin to game plan a little and try to take advantage of some weakness. But, right now (no matter who is coaching) when NT plays OU, the weakness is NT (in every position)!
  17. Very good assessment. We are not a fast offensive team. As a matter of fact, we're a slow offensive team. Consequently, this defense has not practiced against any speed at all. The ability to tackle, take correct angles, and or even put yourself in position to make plays is difficult. The one thing I did not like seeing is cornerbacks giving up outside containment by trying to come underneath WR blocks. This is a big no - that's worse than junior high football. If you're the outside man you NEVER EVER come underneath a block. Stay outside, force the play and let the pursuit come and help. Also, when you're in space as a corner, keep your feet, breakdown, let the WR dance all he wants and just hold him up until help gets there. With all that being said, remember it's early. This is a major makeover and it's going to take time. DD did not recruit well the past few years. Add to that the change in scheme and the young players = tonight's a@# whoopin! Keep the faith things will get better but don't look for miracles this year.
  18. I agree that watching the first game called on the college level will be interesting, but I'm not really sure how many actual in-game calls will affect the overall game. However, the bigger effect will be overall scheme put in place last and this week. I interested in seeing the overall plan of attack for slowing OU down. Will it be run blitzes and make the QB beat you, multiple fronts to confuse blocking, different coverage schemes to confuse a young QB and most important - adjustments. Even with that being said, on defense it comes down to players making plays and whooping the man across from him.
  19. This is not entirely uncommon. No matter if it's 2nd string or even 3rd string, if you have seen the offense everyday for the past 3 weeks you're going to know what they're doing. This gives you an edge by jumping routes, slanting gaps etc. and even up the playing field even if the 1st string is more athletic. Like many have mentioned, we've gotta be patient with this "journey", as Dodge calls it. It's going to take time to implement, recruit, and learn the system that TD has. Should we beat OU, no! I'll be happy with getting off the bus with a game plan and mindset to actually try and beat OU! I'm looking for improvement every week and by the time the heart of conference starts we'll hopefully be hitting our rythm.
  20. We're still grossly outmanned, playing on the road, with a new offense and defense against a team that's looking past us, why wake up the sleeping bear?
  21. You've gotta be s*&tin me, right ?
  22. One more thing, they showed one play from practice (taped), it happened to be a trick play!
  23. GMT = Good Morning Texas. Interview is over, but I believe TD will be on Hanson tonight. It was a great interview by Gary. Finally an interview without a but or a disparaging remark. Coach Dodge and Gary Cogill talked about the program right now, recruiting the area, change of offensive and defensive philosophy, missing Riley and SLC team, schedule, time away from family and getting ready for home opener at OU. TD also mentioned the need for fans and alumni to come out and support the program. Gary finished by giving out the schedule for the first 3 weeks of the season. The interview was done via satellite link from outside the practice fields.
  24. TD will be on shortly with Gary Cogill.
  25. Maybe instead of making T-shirts with a pony and down arrow, it should be a pony with a question mark.
